CH7: Good News or Bad News

 It's already seven in the morning when the car stopped near the police station. Philip get out first to open the door for Daniela. 

"Thanks." Daniela briefly uttered as she stepped her right foot on the road side. She carried Selene and Philip guide his wife to the station.

"Good morning Sir." Philip uttered as he saw a police man waiting in the entrance.

"Good morning too! Come in Sir and Ma'am." The police greeted the two couple which made Daniela smiled as she entered the entrance door and Philip was walking behind her carrying some thing that the baby needed.

However, Selene in the arms of Daniela was awake, sucking a small bottled milk. She was silently fulfilling her stomach. A police woman came after them and she smiled as she saw the two couple.

"Ma'am! Sir! Take your seat." The police woman uttered that Daniela immediately followed. She laid the baby in her lap while Philip sat beside her. 

"What is your purpose sir for visiting us?" The police woman added.

Philip did not waste a time and he spoke gently.

"Ma'am, I would like to ask if there are some people looking for this baby girl? I found her outside our home and I don't know who are the one that left her at that stormy night" He asked that made the police woman to think.

"What time did you see the baby?" The police woman asked trying to get some information about the baby.

" Its been 8: 45 when I found her outside. She was lying under the trash bin that become her shelter for a while" He replied.

The police checked the clock and she spoke after. 

"So the baby lost for only eleven hours since you found her. And we need to blotter her after thirteen hours more because that is the policy."

Daniela shrugged her eyebrows as she spoke.

"So what we should do? Are we going to leave this baby here or we gonna take her as long as the parents did not come to look for her?" 

The police woman opened a log book and she gave it to Philip.

"Ma'am, Sir, write your name on it and please log in your personal data so we can contact you anytime. But for your question Mrs. Montreal, because you are couple and you also found her, you can be a temporary guardian of this baby until the parents are unknown. But for a meantime that the baby is in your arms, we will make an action to seek for her parents. Maybe there are some reason behind this."

After a moment, the police woman stood.

"Mrs. and Mr. Montreal, please excuse me for a while." The police woman added and she walked away to find something in the counter.

Philip took the pen and he wrote his named on the log book and his details which followed by Daniela.

At that moment, Daniela felt a glanced of hope in her eyes as she heard the good news from the police officer. But, there was some bad news that suddenly blow her mind away.

"Daniela...Are you okay?" Philip asked his wife as he saw Daniela suddenly became pale.

"Ye-yeah... I'm still okay..." Daniela replied stammering. She smiled briefly after a moment of pause to avert the attention of Philip to her. However, might Philip knew her wife better cause of the long years that they have together.

"Daniela I know there is a problem. What's that?" Philip asked his wife again seemed that he was not agreed on what he heard.

"Sigh. I'm happy to hear that Selene will be in our guide for a while, but what if tomorrow her parents came and claim her as their daughter? I think I can't imagine the life after that again." Daniela spoke with a low tone of voice.

Philip moved his body toward Daniela and he tapped her shoulder as he spoke toward his wife.

"Don't think that Daniela. We both know that she  need her real parents. But for now, all  we can do is to cherish the day that we have her." 

"..." Daniela was speechless as she made a glanced at Philip felt the sadness of his wife. He looked down and he moved away his body from Daniela.

Thud!

Thud!

The stamped of the feet were heard that caught the attention of the two Philip raised his head and he saw the police standing near them.

"Sir, we will contact you if there is a information about her parents. Thank you for your concerned for the baby." The police spoke that made Philip to nod his head.

After a while, Daniela and Philip was seen walking out the police station. There were no traced of  emotion on their face as they entered the car.

When they were inside, Daniela took a deep breath and she played the little fingers of the baby. However, Philip took the direction which lead them to their home.

"Philip...Are you going to do your work today?" Daniela asked while playing Selene's soft skin.

"I'm not. I want to take care Selene for a short period of time. And I'm sure that we don't have such a time like this before so I will be with both of you until the baby's parents are not there for her." Philip replied while his attention was on the drive way.

Daniela nods her head as she heard what Philip saying. She smiled secretly as she kept on playing with the baby.

At that moment, the two couple forgot their past argument and they focused themselves with Selene.Their car continued taking the way toward their home. 

 Philip turned the car to the left lane to avoid too much traffic in the highway since the hour that they arrived was the moment that the busy cars were going through their destination.

And that was the thing that Philip always do if he needed alternative way back home.

"BRAKE!"

Daniela was shocked as the moment that she would threw down Selene as Philip suddenly stepped the brake. The car stopped immediately that made Daniela moved herself forward.  When the car stopped, Daniela could not stopped herself to get mad toward her husband.

"Gosh Philip what's wrong with you? Did you know that Selene is nearly to fall when you step the brake?" 

Philip kept on holding the steering wheel as he spoke.   With a pale face, he could not imagine what he did.

"Sorry, but I think we hit someone." Philip replied worrying.

"WHAT!?"  Daniela uttered seemed like she was surprised on what Philip told to her. As she added, she looked backward while nudging the soft body of the baby on her lap. But her eyes were frightened as she could not see anyone around.

She averted her gaze to Philip and added.

"T...then look for him." She said trembled in her voice.

Philip looked around as he replied. His knees rumbled as he moved himself.

"Wait me here. I will check him." 

Philip immediately get out to check the old man while Daniela wished that the man would never get too much injuries.

Philip looked over the car, he looked for the man everywhere but he could now see the man. He scratched his forehead as he could not see him.

"What's going on Philip? Is he okay?" Daniela asked worrying but Philip shook his head.
