Yvonne’s POV- Strange car

That day, I arrived at school in high spirits, having celebrated my birthday the previous evening with a lavish party my friends couldn’t attend. While I didn’t reveal the true reason for their absence, I made it up to them the following day, treating them to a joyous celebration of my new ride.

Here at school, my affluent background and regal demeanor drew attention and admiration from my peers. Despite the allure I held for many, my betrothal to Kayne served as a barrier to romantic pursuits. While I rebuffed advances from admirers, some speculated about my sexuality. Yet, here I was, contemplating approaching a boy the next day. Life’s ironies never failed to amuse me.

After dropping off my friends, I found myself lost in thought, the loud beats of hip hop music failing to drown out thoughts of Alexander. Despite my efforts to push him from my mind, his captivating presence lingered, igniting a newfound attraction within me.

Glancing into my side mirror, I noticed a sleek black Lamborghini trailing behind me, its presence stirring a sense of unease within me. I had glimpsed the car earlier, parked near Grace’s house and then Lora’s, but its persistence now raised suspicion.

“Who the hell is that?” I pondered, slowing down to assess the situation. The car remained steadfast behind me, its persistence sparking my curiosity. Remembering my father’s words—“Be as wise as the serpent, or you’ll get yourself killed”—I nodded in acknowledgment. “I’m being followed, interesting,” I muttered to myself, a smirk playing on my lips.

Increasing the volume of the music and my speed, I drove faster than ever before. Taking a sharp U-turn, I shifted gears, glancing behind me to see the pursuing car matching my pace. “We’ll see about that,” I murmured, a sense of determination fueling my actions.

It was time to employ the disappearing act I had mastered. Reciting incantations taught to me by my mother, their meanings lost to me, I watched as my car vanished from the road, reappearing near the safety of the mansion. “No one must know where you live,” my mother’s voice echoed in my mind, her cautionary words guiding my actions.

“Home sweet home,” I muttered, feeling a sense of relief wash over me as I parked in the garage. With a sigh, I exited the car, shouldering my school bag as I headed into the mansion.

“Welcome home,” my mother greeted me with a warm smile, her presence a comforting sight after the day’s events. My father’s absence was not unexpected; he rarely had time for such moments, consumed by his duties to the pack. Sometimes, I questioned if I truly knew him at all.

“Yes, I’m home, Mother,” I replied, returning her embrace with a soft hug.

“Where’s Father?” I inquired, scanning the room casually. While I cared little for his whereabouts, I aimed to tread carefully to avoid his usual lectures on werewolf etiquette—an incessant reminder of our pack’s rules that I had grown weary of hearing.

“He’s out in the woods with half of the pack,” she informed me, studying my expression closely.

I glanced away, masking any hint of disinterest. “Is everything okay, Yvonne?” she probed, concern evident in her voice.

“Father Bosco was at school today. Another witch was caught,” I disclosed, shifting in my seat.

My mother shrugged, her admiration for Father Bosco apparent. “I’m impressed by Father Bosco’s efforts. He’s relentless in his pursuit.”

I sighed, meeting her gaze. “Only the black witches. I once overheard the witches discussing a white witch elder who still lives, hidden in an unknown body—a formidable opponent.”

A smile touched my mother’s lips. “It’s unfortunate that Father Bosco began with the innocent ones.”

“I think he’s going too far. They didn’t choose to be witches—some of them were born that way. They don’t deserve this,” I voiced my concern, resting my jaw on my hand as I pondered the injustice.

My mother nodded solemnly. “Some may deserve it, my child, but it’s not your burden to bear,” she reassured me before excusing herself. “Why don’t you go upstairs and have your shower? Esther will prepare lunch for you.”

Esther, our cook and a fellow wolf, held the position of an omega in our pack hierarchy. In our world, everyone knew their place, but the alpha remained supreme, serving as our leader.

“Okay, mother,” I acquiesced, making my way upstairs to my room. As I climbed the staircase, thoughts of the earlier incident—the car that had followed me—flashed through my mind. “I should tell Mother about this,” I resolved, turning back.

However, my thoughts were interrupted as Kayne approached me. Surprised to see him upstairs, I questioned his presence. “What are you doing here?”

He shrugged casually. “Don’t I have the right to visit my mate whenever I like?”

I scoffed, feeling a surge of frustration towards him. “Were you in my bedroom?” I asked, hoping my suspicions were unfounded.

He smiled, closing the distance between us and placing his hands behind my neck. “Do you have a problem with that, my beloved? I wouldn’t be so nervous if you were to come to my bedroom too. In fact, I would be honored.”

Deciding to ignore his advances, I walked past him, feeling his gaze linger on me as he followed. The presence of Kayne made me reconsider sharing my concerns about the car with my mother. Dropping my bag on my desk, I turned to face him, his proximity unnerving.

“Kayne, am I the only one who finds you weird sometimes?” I questioned, meeting his gaze head-on.

He raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his eyes. “Yes, you are. And I would advise you to stop thinking that way of your handsome mate,” he retorted smoothly.

“I see.…” I murmured, nodding as I turned to unpack my school bag.

“How was school today?” Kayne inquired, approaching me from behind.

“It was okay,” I replied with a smile.

“I heard witches are presently on the run there, huh?” he remarked.

I chuckled in response. “So it seems. You know, I would really prefer if you give me some privacy now. I need a lot of rest.”

“Sure, whatever you want, my queen,” he acquiesced, stepping closer to me and wrapping his arms around my waist. With a kiss on my neck, he whispered, “See you at lunch,” before departing.

As soon as he left, I rushed to my door and shut it firmly. “He is really getting on my nerves,” I grumbled to myself, returning to my bed.

Lying on my back, I stared up at the ceiling, a deep smile spreading across my face. Thoughts of Alexander flooded my mind once more. “I’ll talk to him tomorrow at school,” I whispered to myself, my smile widening with anticipation.
