“Matthew,” Sarah called out suddenly, interrupting Matthew’s view as his eyes turned to her.Restraining from saying anything that’ll make her angry, he curled his lips up and stood up to hug her, shocking the life out of Sarah.“How are you? I’ve been waiting.”He said, adjusting a chair for her.Sarah took her seat, still in utmost shock, while Matthew glanced back at where Elena was seated, a frown etching his face as he saw only Jeremy sitting on the chair. He glanced at the exit to see Elena walking off, the expression on her face not visible to him, but he knew it was not good. Some parts of him wanted to know what they discussed, while other parts didn’t want to know.“I was caught up in something. I’m sorry.”Sarah replied, pulling her tray closer to herself and throwing Matthew a small smile.Matthew looked at her and smiled, too, continuing with his lunch with only a thought on his mind, Elena. She didn’t even finish what she got or didn’t even take more than a bite from it.
Elena jumped to the front seat immediately, and Matthew opened the door.“I’ve missed sitting with you.” She said, closing her eyes and sniffing his car.Sarah opened the back door and sat down, leaving Matthew in the driver’s seat. Before he could reach for the Bluetooth, loud music blared out of it suddenly, making both Matthew and Sarah cover their ears.“Elena!” Matthew yelled out.“I’m sorry.” She replied with a cocky grin on her face. She reduced the volume to the minimum without saying anything, humming to the sound, and bopping her head back and forth. Matthew stared at her with raised brows, wondering if something was wrong with her or if he had done anything that made her start acting like this.“Let’s go, or are we staying in the car for something?” Elena voiced out when he won’t start the car.Matthew carried his eyes off, sighing tiredly before starting the car.“Don’t drop me first. Let’s drop Sarah off before you drop me off. There’s no one at home, and I’ll be bored.”
Elena woke up very early the next day. She had things to do, starting from finishing her last night's assignment to quickly preparing breakfast for herself and her mother. She didn’t know where she got the energy from, but she did all of it. She packed a mini breakfast for Matthew, too, his favorite, toast bread with scrambled eggs, before proceeding to take her bath.It was not until she finished all she was doing that her mother stepped out of her room.“Hi, Elena,” she said as a yawn escaped her lips.“Hi, mom. You came home last night. I hope everything is fine. You don’t need to bother about me getting to school. Matthew would be coming for me. And there’s breakfast for you already, just seat, eat and go to work. I love you.” She rambled out, picking her plate and flipping to the chair.Clara's eyes widened as Elena’s words sunk into her head. There was breakfast and she was already ready for school. The part that got her was the breakfast. Hastening her steps, she rushed to the
“Change the music. You know I don’t like this.” Matthew called out, reaching for the car’s speaker to turn it down.“And I like it, let’s hear it. If you can change the music because of Sarah, I think you should be able to hear new kinds too. Let’s listen to it.” She replied, trying to stifle the laugh threatening to coke out.Matthew sighed tiredly and focused on driving. Humming something he couldn’t even say, he tried to drown the sound of the lady blaring from his car, and it annoyed him that her voice was so tiny that he couldn’t even do it.They soon arrived at Sarah’s house, and she was already outside, standing with a bag in her hand. Elena noticed how her face bloomed with a smile as she approached the car, making her scrunch her face and diverting her eyes away from her.“Hi, Elena,” Sarah greeted but was not replied. She opened the car's back door and helped herself into it, her eyes meeting with Matthew, who gave her a smile.“Good morning.” She mouthed to him before relax
The course is given in a blur, everything happening too rapidly, and Elena is on her best behavior. The teachers didn’t bother her anymore, and she was more accessible than in the past week. She packed her book as she heard the bell for the cafeteria, rushing to get lunch for Silver before getting hers. Silver had texted her during the last class that she needed to be in the art studio immediately but was hungry. She wrote down what she would like to eat for her and asked her to help her with bringing it to the studio after. Elena was the first to get on the line in the cafeteria, and she ordered both of their foods and dropped hers on an empty table before scrambling off to the art studio.“Hey…” she called out as she entered, meeting Silver at the front of a sketch board with two paintbrushes in her hand.Silver had a passion for painting, but what Elena did not understand was why she was coming to school when she could have gone to an art school where she could focus on it. They al
“Wait, what!” Elena screeched out.Her eyes were wide open as she stared at Sarah, darting them towards Matthew too.“So you guys have a book date, and you won’t invite me in?” She added before concentrating on Matthew.“Elena, you don’t like books. Why would we want to invite..”“Because it’s time I can spend with my friends, have fun, talk and gist. Why won’t you invite me in?” She cut in, eyeing Matthew before facing Sarah.“I’m coming with you. My mum has a late shift in her office, so that I can come with you.” She added before turning back to her food.Matthew glanced at Sarah, mouthing a ‘sorry’ to her before turning to look at Elena. Sarah had mistakenly asked about the booking date they were supposed to go together this afternoon, and Elena had heard it, bringing her to ask about it. It was supposed to be an alone thing, but with Elena knowing now, she won’t stop bothering them until they carry her along.“What time is it? Is it immediately after school, or we’ll go home to c
Matthew loved driving. He had learnt it from a very young age from his father, gone on trips and do anything that involves him and the fresh air. The first time he was with the wheel was when he was 13, seated in between his fathers legs with his small hands on the wheel, his fathers big one engulfing it.And at 16, he got his car. His very own gift for passing his junior school gracefully. His father got him a teacher to help him until he was perfect. He was staring at Elena, who was seated in the passenger seat, and Sarah, who was beside him, without saying anything. A dreading feeling washed over him, and he was not excited to enter the car or even press the pedal.“Are we just going to stand down and not move? I’m hungry, so can you guys just come in and let’s go.” Elena spoke out.Sarah removed her hand from Matthew’s, walking annoyingly to the car and opening the back seat.“Thank you,” Elena muttered before turning to look at Matthew,“Would you come in too?” She added with a
Elena woke up as early as she could the next morning, going with her routine and cooking breakfast, but things were a little different that morning. Her mother had woken up earlier than usual and met her the minute she finished packing Matthew's breakfast. With raised eyebrows, she walked up to her daughter and touched her suddenly, causing Elena to jump off in shock.“Mum, you can’t come at my back like that!” She yelled out.“And why do you have plenty of food today again?” Clara said, ignoring what she had just said.Elena eyed her, walking back to the box and tying it up before carrying it off.“Matthew and I are eating lunch together with one of my friends. Not Silver, though, but we’re eating together.” She replied without turning back to face her mother.“And you’re taking my food for that!”“It’s not like I cook every day, and you have only me! So let me take it for today!” She yelled back before entering her room and shutting the door.Dropping the box on her reading table, s
