Before the door even closed, I was sitting in the chair next to Natalie, sighing deeply. I knew that Naomi just wanted to make sure the baby and Natalie were both okay. She was a good woman, and I didn’t think it was possible, but I fell even more in love with her as I watched her care for Natalie.

“You can go back over there, Rip,” Natalie sneered, pulling me from my thoughts. “I don’t want or need you here!”

I groaned as I crossed my arms over my chest. “Listen to me, Natalie, Naomi is right. You shouldn’t be going through this alone. I want to be here with you. I want to support you. I want–”

“Just stop, Rip! You don’t want any of those things! The only thing you want is this fucking baby! That’s all I’m good for in your eyes! That’s all women are worth in your eyes! I used to think you were a good man, but I see now that you are no different from the other men in the world! That’s why you got Naomi pregnant so fast, isn’t it? You just wanted a child!”
