“Spending time with Mommy is not a waste, Sir. Mommy is a wonderful woman. You can talk to her about anything. She knows everything! If you two are talking, I promise not to disturb you. I can play in the yard by myself. Besides,” Summer took a deep breath.
“Didn’t you two use to be best friends? I heard that you used to play and go on vacation together. I think Mommy would be very happy if you guys could relive the good times. Even now, Mommy still talks about it often. She really enjoyed your friendship. With Aunt Emily and Uncle Russell too!”
Louis fell silent for a moment. The times Summer had mentioned flashed through his mind. But in the blink of an eye, he buried them again.
“Sorry, I don’t have time for that. Besides, it’s all been a long time. Even if I did it again, nothing would change. I still can’t marry your mother. The one I love now is Grace Evans. She’s the one I’m going to marry.”
Summer pouted. Her eyes were suddenly thick and shadowy. Before she could express her annoyance, Louis had already grabbed the backpack on the table. Summer immediately jumped down, and protected the bag under her tiny body.
“Sir? Why are you going through my bag? That’s not nice! Besides, you’re not an airport official.”
“I can’t let you stay here. You have to go home immediately. Don’t you feel sorry for your mother? She’s worried about you. Now, return her passport.”
Summer’s lips pursed again. “You don’t have to worry about me, Sir. Even though I’m still little, I’m independent. I can take care of myself. Besides, I’m here with you. What are you afraid of?”
“Your mother is afraid that you will trouble me, and in fact, that has already happened. Therefore, you can not stay here for long.”
Louis pulled out the fully loaded backpack. Summer tried to stop him, but he was too fast.
“Where did you hide your mother's passport?” he asked with more emphasis.
Summer folded her arms across her chest. Her puffed cheeks made her face look rounder.
“Do you think I hid it in my backpack? Then keep looking. Even if an elephant can talk, you won’t be able to find it.”
Louis stopped rummaging through the small backpack. “You didn’t bring it?”
“What for? Mommy won’t be able to come here if I bring her passport.”
Louis sighed tiredly. He returned the small backpack to the table. There was no passport as far as he could see. Summer only brought clothes, a lunch box, a water bottle, and basic equipment for an adventure.
“Why are you going this far, Little Human? Do you realize that your act is harming others? You are making my life difficult,” Louis said, sounding desperate.
“How many times do I have to tell you, Sir? I want you to marry my Mommy,” Summer blurted out as she packed her bag.
“Why? Why me? Why don’t you find another guy? I’m sure your mother has a lot of friends. You said she’s a nice person. There must be someone out there who loves her and wouldn’t mind marrying her. Why are you forcing me? I already have a girlfriend, you know? Grace Evans and I are getting married soon!”
All of a sudden, Summer fell silent, her face dimmed. After closing her bag, she turned around. That's when Louis could see her eyes starting to fill with tears.
“I heard that people get married because they love each other. Mommy loves you, Mr. Louis Harper. Can’t you love her too? I would be so happy if you two got married.”
Louis' chest unexpectedly felt tight. Summer's small voice had shaken his heart. However, remembering Grace, who was waiting for his promise, he cleared his throat.
“Summer,” Louis bent his knees, holding her shoulders, “listen to me carefully. Marriage requires love from both sides. It can’t just be one-sided. That’s why I can’t marry your mother. I don’t love her. It would just be a one-sided love.”
“Why don't you love Mommy? She is a kind, beautiful, great mother. Why don't you just love her?”
Louis took a deep breath. Summer's sad gaze almost numbed his senses. He nearly told her the truth.
“Do you love Grace Evans?” Summer interrupted as Louis was thinking of an explanation.
"Of course," he answered in a thin voice.
Summer pouted. “Why? What makes you love Grace Evans? What makes her different from Mommy?”
Louis' gaze drifted away. The corners of his lips rose as his brain reviewed his lover.
“You know what? I am the number one bachelor in L City. To maintain my reputation, I have to find a comparable wife. Grace is the best choice.”
Summer furrowed her eyebrows. "What's a comparable wife?"
“A wife whose abilities are equal to mine. She has to be beautiful, smart, attractive. Grace has those criteria. Although sometimes, she speaks a bit coldly and curtly, her heart is kind.”
“Mommy is also beautiful, smart, and attractive. She is kind, and never speaks curtly.”
Louis’ lips turned stiff. “Yes, but I’m looking for someone who has the same background as me—a great businessman. Grace is the leader of a big company.”
“Mommy is also a leader. She often leads travel groups to various places. I think Mommy is also a great leader,” Summer nodded firmly.
Feeling amused, Louis ruffled her hair. “Yes, your mother is indeed a great leader.”
“Then why don’t you just marry Mommy?” Summer snapped.
Louis took a deep breath. He was starting to get confused about how to make the toddler understand.
Not getting an answer, Summer spoke again, “Sir, have you ever heard of it? People say that we laugh more when we are with the one we love. Can Grace make you laugh as much as Mommy does?”
Louis' mouth suddenly opened without a word. His vision was clouded, covered by the past. Sky's laughter, that used to shake his heart, now rang in his memory. Usually, he would laugh every time he heard it or at least, smile in admiration.
Hi, guys! Long time no see. I'm back with a new story. Hope you like it. Enjoy the reading!
Together, they went to meet the Triplets. When they arrived at a glass wall, they were all amazed. Just as River had said, Emily's children looked chubby and healthy, even though they weren't as big as the other babies."Hello, Babies. I'm Summer, your cousin. Nice to meet you. When you're all getting better, let's play together!" Summer greeted them with teary eyes."And I'm River," the boy who was being carried by Frank greeted them too. Although he was a tall kid, he still needed help to see the babies."I'm Summer's best friend. When you're all well, come play with me too! Summer and I have a lot of plans for all of us!" he added then.Suddenly, the baby in the middle moved his hand. The other two babies moved because of his touch. The smallest one even opened her mouth as if she wanted to answer. Seeing that, Summer and River gasped."Oh, look! I think they heard us. They must be impatient to play with us," Summer whispered to her friend.River nodded in agreement. "Yes, I hope t
"He has the power of love! Wouldn't we be stronger if we were with someone they love? Besides, you're lucky that your husband could accompany you. Can you imagine Mom back then? She gave birth to us without Dad," Louis whispered seriously. "Or Sky. She also gave birth on her own, without me. But Summer was born safely, right?"Emily pondered. Slowly, her cry stopped."You're right. I'm much luckier than them," she muttered then."So, cheer up! Give me three cute nephews or nieces. When they're a little bigger, I'll take them around town with my supercar."Emily finally smiled. "Thank you, Louis. You're the best big brother on earth.""Of course. I'm your only big brother," Louis shrugged. His eyes were teary. He never expected that they would arrive at such a touching moment. The little sister he had always looked after would soon have children.Suddenly, Cayden came. Louis rubbed Emily's head. "I'll wait outside."Emily nodded with eyes full of emotion. Then, while she surrendered he
Louis was stunned. Handing Sky a box of donuts, he mumbled, "I came here to surprise you guys, but why am I the one who's surprised?""We were surprised too, Louis. Who would have thought Emily's water would break now?" Sky said, almost whispering."It must be Emily's karma for teasing Aunt Barbara," Louis mumbled, rolling up his shirt sleeve."Please don't make things worse, Louis. Just take me to the car," Emily cried. "This hurts so much. And stop talking about karma. If it existed, it would also have happened to you. You teased Aunt Barbara too, remember?"Louis let out a faint sigh. "Yeah, but I'm a man. I won't give birth.""Louis, stop teasing your twin. Help her," Sky scolded, helping her husband roll up the other sleeve of his shirt."Yes, Daddy. Save Auntie!" Summer urged, jumping up and down in panic.Beside her, River froze with a horrified look. "Guys, more water is coming out!"Louis took a deeper breath. "Okay."He took a stance. When he picked Emily up, his breath imme
"Emily?" Cayden grabbed his wife's hand. Then, he whispered a protest. That's when Louis spoke up, "I think you need to be careful tomorrow, Em. Do you remember how Aunt Barbara gave birth? It happened when we were both accompanying her to exercise. Her water broke because she got mad after we teased her. Karma could come to you.""Do you mean Auntie's stomach could break down while she's doing exercise, Daddy?" Summer was a little confused."Yes. That might happen," Louis replied, ignoring his daughter's worry.Emily's lips pursed. "Please don't say nonsense, Louis. We were still little back then. We didn't fully understand what we were doing.""But karma still exists."Seeing Emily's sour face, Sky nudged her husband. "Stop scaring her, Louis. Pregnant women need prayers and support, not negative suggestions.""I'm just reminding her to be careful," Louis replied innocently.Sky sighed in resignation. Then, she looked at Emily. "Don't worry, Em. I'll accompany you. Nothing will happ
Summer felt sorry for her friend. "Calm down, River. There are still a lot of penguins. They won't be wiped out just because they are eaten by seals. The real threat to the penguins is global warming. If the polar ice caps continue to melt, they could lose their homes."River pondered. His expression became more serious. "So, how do we save the penguins?""Start with the smallest things. Not wasting food and saving energy are the simplest examples," Summer answered lightly."I don't watch TV anymore. Will that help?"Summer nodded firmly. "Yes!""Then, I promise not to waste electricity anymore. I hope the penguins can survive," River said, still in a slightly hoarse voice.Sky smiled at the children's chatter. "Your mission is indeed very noble. I'm sure the penguins will thank you. Now, instead of being sad, why don't you watch this video?"Sky swiped her phone screen. Summer and River's gazes were drawn there. Finding hundreds of penguins gathered on an island, their eyes sparkled
Summer's enthusiasm became even more intense. She exchanged glances with River. Her best friend's eyes turned out to be round as well. They were curious whether their guess was right or wrong. When they arrived in the living room, the two kids danced around happily. They were happy because they got the biggest tote bag."Let's see what my parents bought for us, River," Summer said as she poured the contents of her bag onto a couch. On the other couch, River did the same thing."Hey, Summer, my guess was right! It's a penguin plushie!" River exclaimed as he showed off the gift."That was an easy guess, River. Look at this! I got it right too, and this is harder than a penguin plushie," Summer put on a beanie with the same animal on it. She looked cute in it.Suddenly, River gasped in awe. "Wow, this one is so unexpected! Summer, look! Your parents bought us a calendar. This will be useful. We can plan our plans using it!"Summer's mouth also turned round. She looked for her calendar. W
"What do you mean?" Kendrick asked in fear."This is a chip that can explode if the pacemaker is pressed. I want it implanted in your brain. So, if you bother my family again—""Bang!" River suddenly shouted while stretching his arms. Kendrick flinched."Your head will explode," Summer continued while giggling. Kendrick's pale face was amusing to her."A-are you crazy? You're still a child. Why are you acting like a psychopath?"Summer's lips pursed. "What's a psychopath?" she asked River.River shrugged. "I think I've heard it on TV. But I forgot what it means."Summer sighed like an adult. "Okay, that's not a problem. So, Kendrick, do you understand what I'm saying?""Don't ignore Summer's warning. She's a person of her word. If you want to live, stay away from her and her family," River nodded in warning."Well, you should just focus on your prison life, Kendrick. Who knows, you might get some leniency for good behavior," Summer shrugged casually. However, Kendrick only got crazier
Worried that her act would be blown up, Summer quickly chatted with River. She asked him about the sandwich and what they needed to improve in the future. Only after Kendrick finished his food and drink did she reach for the large box on the table."Are you full yet?" Summer asked, now kneeling on the chair. Otherwise, the large box would have covered her face from Kendrick. The bad guy snorted. "Why do you care?""Did you forget? I have already answered that question. No matter how many times you ask, my answer will still be the same. I'm worried about you because my family are the ones who put you in that prison," Summer pointed to the iron door guarded by two police officers.Kendrick rolled his eyes. "Don't act like you care about me. I know you and your fcking parents partied after you threw me in this damn place."Summer gasped. Her round eyes glistened with surprise. "Please watch your language, Kendrick. My best friend and I are still kids. We shouldn't be listening to inappro
"Please don't mention it. It's dangerous!" Summer said loudly.River pushed Summer's hand away from his mouth. "Why?""You don't need to know the reason. What's clear, it's dangerous. Let's put it as a forbidden word. Don't mention it again until we're adults," Summer said seriously.River sighed in annoyance. However, seeing the determination on Summer's face, he finally gave in."Okay, I'll forget about it and pretend that I never heard it," he twisted his ears repeatedly, as if he was rewinding a cassette tape.Louis could finally breathe a sigh of relief. Sky chuckled as he rubbed his chest. After that, the conversation went normally. They just exchanged news. When their conversation ended, Summer squealed happily, "Oh, I really can't wait to welcome Mommy and Daddy home! I believe they will bring lots of stories!""Yeah, me too. I can't wait to see what souvenirs they brought from Antarctica!" River was no less excited. "Now, what should we do? Should we get ready? You're going on
