Chapter 637

Author: Baby X
Felix suddenly stood up and walked to the window. He stared at the blurred, rain-streaked world outside, his emotions impossible to read.

“Felix,” Leo said quietly. “If you still care about her, then let her live her own life.”

Felix did not answer right away. After a moment, he said in an even voice, “I haven’t interfered with anything she does.”

He stood there for a few more seconds before turning around. His gaze was complicated. “Are you serious?”

“I am,” Leo replied without hesitation.

At five thirty, Miranda arrived at the school to pick up Mia. Leo happened to be there as well, and the two of them ran into each other.“Did Felix tell you he’s going abroad?” Leo asked, looking at her.Miranda nodded. She already knew.“Do you know why he’s staying overseas that long?” he asked again.Miranda paused for a moment, then shook her head. “We’re divorced. His personal matters have nothing to do with me.”Leo realized he had asked the wrong person.Just then, the school gates opened and parents began filing in. Miranda came out holding Mia’s hand and gave Leo and Vivian a small wave.Leo had considered inviting Miranda and Mia over for dinner, but she had just returned from Hamilton and probably needed the rest. He decided not to mention it.That evening, Leo received a call from Hayden, asking him out for drinks. Hayden was already at the bar waiting.Worried that Hayden might get drunk again, Leo went. The bar was loud downstairs, but Hayden was sitting alone i

Victor froze for a second. His mind immediately went to Miranda. He paid attention to developments in the research world, and Miranda’s reputation had been rising rapidly. Rumor had it that even high-ranking government officials had met with her personally. That level of recognition was something Fiona didn’t have yet.“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have brought up work,” Victor said quickly. “But things are going well for me at your father’s company. He values me a lot and has entrusted me with some important projects. I…”He couldn’t help reporting his progress, hoping she would take notice.“Mr. Terry,” Fiona cut in, impatience edging into her voice. “I’m busy. If you want to build a future at my father’s company, then just focus on doing your job well.”The brightness in Victor’s eyes faded instantly. He glanced down at his modest suit, then at the designer handbag in Fiona’s hand and the luxury brands she wore as if they were nothing. A quiet wave of insecurity rose in his chest.

News that Fiona had passed the assessment quickly spread through the lab. Coco was organizing documents for Miranda when the topic came up.“Fiona’s pretty capable,” Coco said casually. “I heard she passed. Barely made it over the line, though.”Miranda continued typing, her fingers moving steadily across the keyboard. She glanced up briefly. “She earned it.”“Well, at least she’s transferring out. You’ll finally get some peace and quiet,” Coco added.Fiona had often thrown her weight around, relying on her identity as the future sister-in-law of Felix.Seeing Miranda fully absorbed in her work again, Coco dropped the subject. Deep down, she was genuinely pleased Fiona was leaving.A moment later, Adrian came over to discuss the latest experiment results. He and Miranda sat down to review the data together. Coco leaned in slightly, trying to follow along, but after a few sentences she felt completely lost. The theory Miranda proposed was so advanced she had never even heard of

Time ticked by. The only sound in the conference room was the soft scratch of pens moving across paper. Several people were so stumped by the questions that a fine layer of sweat formed on their foreheads.Fiona rested her chin on her hand and bit her lip lightly. She couldn’t help imagining how many points Miranda would score if this test were placed in her hands. At last, time was up. James collected the papers without expression and left the room. The results would be announced at three thirty in the afternoon.Fiona could barely eat lunch. She returned at two to wait. The colleagues she ran into all wore troubled expressions. None of them seemed confident.Anxiety hung thick in the air.“Fiona, what are you worried about? You’re better than all of us. You’ll definitely pass,” one female colleague said.“Exactly. You and James are close. He’ll make sure you get in,” another added.Fiona felt a bitter taste in her chest, though the words were flattering. She forced a small sm

Felix paused, and his tone grew more solemn. “I’m asking you to look after Miranda as a friend. As for your relationship with her, let it take its natural course.”Leo caught the resignation in his words and looked at him in surprise. “Felix, what exactly are you going overseas for this time?”“Just some personal matters,” Felix replied evenly. His expression remained calm, giving nothing away.“If you need anything from me or Hayden, just say the word,” Leo said with a nod. Then he added, “I’ll take good care of Miranda and Mia. Don’t worry. Focus on what you need to do.”“Thank you.” Felix nodded. He glanced at his watch and stood up. “It’s about time. I should head to the airport.”“All right. Safe travels,” Leo said, rising as well. The two men walked out of the cafe together. Years of unspoken understanding meant they did not need to say anything more before parting ways.As Leo walked back through the residential complex, something did not sit right with him. Felix rarely

Miranda returned home but didn’t pick up Mia right away. She took a shower and went straight to bed to catch up on sleep. When she woke up, it was already eight in the evening. She picked up her phone and called Felix.“Hello.” His voice on the other end sounded slightly hoarse.“I’m home. Bring Mia back,” Miranda said directly.“Alright,” Felix replied, then hung up.Fifteen minutes later, the doorbell rang. Mrs. Young went to answer it. Mia rushed in like a little puppy, running straight toward Miranda.“Mom! Mom!” she cried, throwing her arms around Miranda’s waist. “I missed you so much.”Miranda lowered her head and gently rubbed Mia’s hair. “I missed you too.”“Mia, go play for a bit. Daddy needs to talk to Mommy,” Felix said as he stepped inside and changed his shoes.Mrs. Young quickly came over and led Mia away. “Come on, Mia.”Miranda looked at the man standing in front of her, waiting for him to speak.“I’m going overseas for a while,” Felix said quietly. “I’ll be
