“No need, Grandma. Really, I—”

Mrs. Gibson Sr. interrupted her firmly. “Felix, did you hear what I said?”

“I heard you,” Felix replied calmly from his seat beside Mia.

Satisfied, Mrs. Gibson Sr. turned to Miranda again. “If he doesn’t buy you something, then I will.”

Miranda hesitated, realizing she had no way out of it now.

After dinner, Mia, always quick to pick up on things, held her father’s hand and said sweetly, “Daddy, you have to buy Mommy a big sparkly gem! Chloe’s mom wears one, and it’s soooo pretty.”

Felix smiled gently at his daughter. “Alright. I promise.”

Miranda followed him out to the car. She had no intention of making this into a big deal. She just planned to pick something small and simple, enough to satisfy his grandmother. If Mrs. Gibson Sr. decided to step in herself, the gift would be far more extravagant.

Felix drove them to a nearby jewelry boutique. As they walked through the entrance, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen, then turned to Miranda.
