AVA

I was in my office when Clara rushed in.

She didn’t knock properly. She just burst through the door, breathing heavily, like she had been running from something she

couldn’t escape.

“Ava…” she called, her voice shaking.

I frowned immediately. “What is it?”

She hesitated, hands trembling around her tablet.

“It’s Sienna,” she said quickly. “She called me again. She wants me to add an event to your schedule tomorrow. A fake one…. something that will make you leave the office.”

EMMAThe moment Williams left, the house fell quiet again. I stood there for a few seconds, staring at the door like something was supposed to happen next. Maybe I was expecting Ava to walk away again or maybe something else. But she didn’t.“Aren’t you going to say anything?” I finally asked, turning to face her.She didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she took a step closer, her expression calmer than I expected.“I was waiting for you to be ready,” she said. I let out a small breath.“I’m ready now.”She nodded slightly, like she had been hoping for that. Then we both sat down. For a moment, neither of us spoke. Then she started.“I found out when I was at the hospital,” she said.I looked at her, my brows knitting slightly. “At the hospital?” I repeated. She nodded. “There was an old document on my phone… something related to the fire incident,” she explained. “I wasn’t even looki

WILLIAMSI woke up feeling lighter. I turned and stretched out of habit, almost forgetting Emma was still on the bed beside me.The moment I saw her, I stopped. The early morning sunlight slipping through the window landed softly on her face, making her look almost unreal… like she was carved out of something peaceful. For a moment, I just sat there and watched her breathe, quiet and steady. I gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear without thinking. Not long after, she stirred—probably feeling my gaze on her.“Good morning,” she said the moment her eyes met mine.I smiled faintly. “Good morning.”“How did you sleep?” I asked.“Very well,” she replied, still smiling.“Alright,” I said, pushing myself up. “Let’s freshen up and go home.”“Home?” she repeated, sitting up slightly.“Yes,” I nodded. “You’re going to see Ava today.”She hesitated for a second, then slowly

WILLIAMSEmma slowly pulled away from the hug. I let my hands fall to my sides as I watched her, trying to read what she wasn’t saying. Her eyes avoided mine, her posture slightly tense.I exhaled softly and decided to shift things.“So…” I started, keeping my tone light. “When are you planning to go back home?”She didn’t answer. Instead, she turned away, walking a few steps toward the window like the question hadn’t been asked at all.I studied her for a second. Then I tried again.“You always tell me how much you love your sister,” I said calmly. “So why are you this angry at her… over something you’re not even completely sure about?”That got her attention. She then turned back slowly.“I’m not angry at her,” she said, a little too quickly. I raised a brow but didn’t interrupt. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair.“I just… I think I need space,” she continued, her voice sof

WILLIAMS“You are here?”A voice broke me out of my thoughts. I turned immediately and saw Tom standing at the doorway, looking as surprised as I felt exhausted.“Tom,” I said, relief slipping into my tone without permission. He walked in quickly, closing the distance between us and pulling me into a firm hug.“Man,” he muttered, patting my back. “I came as soon as I heard but I had to call you first.”I nodded, holding onto that moment for a second longer than I should have. Tom is my best friend and he wasn’t just a friend, he was the brother I never had. The kind of person who showed up without needing explanations. We pulled apart just as the door opened again. This time, Olivia, our house help, stepped in.“Mr. Tom you are here.,” she said casually, sounding excited.I frowned slightly. “Helloooo….I’m here too,” I reminded her.She smiled politely. “Yes sir,.”Tom chuckled beside me.“She always calls me first,” he said. “At this point I think I’m the emergency contact, not you.

WILLIAMSEmma always has mood swings, but following her felt like the right thing to do. It was the simplest way to let her know she wasn’t alone in any of this, even if she was proving difficult. She walked ahead of me, her steps quick and uneven, like she was trying to outrun something she couldn’t see. I didn’t try to stop her and just stayed close enough. After a few more steps, my phone started ringing. I hesitated for a second before pulling it out of my pocket. The name on the screen made me smile a little then I picked.“Hello Tom?”“Your father is sick. Come now.”The line went dead.I froze for half a second, staring at the phone like it would explain more if I waited. I exhaled sharply and dialed our family doctor without wasting another second. He picked up on the second ring.“Hello—”“Mr. Patrick,” I cut in quickly. “I just got a call that my dad is ill. Please go over there immediately and take care of him. I’ll be there shortly.”I didn’t wait for his response. I ended

EMMATears blurred my vision as I walked out of the dining room without any clear destination. Everything felt heavy inside me, a mix of emotions I couldn’t quite understand.Thankfully, Williams’ car was outside. I pulled at the door, but it was locked. I tried again, almost like doing it a second time would somehow change things, and surprisingly, it did. The door unlocked, and I immediately knew he was somewhere nearby, watching me.I got into the car without looking back, closing the door behind me like I was trying to shut the world out. For a second, I just sat there. The way everything had fallen apart tonight. My chest tightened so suddenly I had to grab onto something. My hands trembled as the memories rushed in.“Sienna…” I whispered, my voice breaking. It just didn’t make sense how she could have done this…. someone Ava called her best friend.I pressed my hand against my mouth, but it didn’t stop the tears. They came anyway, fast and uncontrollable, blurring everything aro
