Chapter 29

“Li Tingxiao, how much wine have you had?” Su Jianxi’s face was red as she looked at Li Tingxiao’s exposed honey-colored pecs. She had to drag her gaze elsewhere unnaturally.

“Guess how much I drank?”

“Half a bottle?”

Li Tingxiao kissed Su Jianxi once. “Guess again.”

“One bottle?”

Li Tingxiao kissed Su Jianxi again. “Keep guessing.”

Su Jianxi huffed. Was he going to keep kissing her as long as she did not get it right?

When he saw how the woman was puffing her cheeks arrogantly, Li Tingxiao stood up and away from Su Jianxi, pulling her to her feet at the same time.

“Jianxi, if my family makes you unhappy or even puts you in danger, will you divorce me?”

Li Tingxiao hugged Su Jianxi. He had left his family for three years now, but he knew he had to go home eventually.

However, Su Jianxi was not a part of his life that he could have predicted. He did not want this woman to face everything he had despised with him.

Su Jianxi had not expected Li Tingxiao to mention this suddenly, and she looked a little nervous. “Li Tingxiao, I married you, not your family. You punched Shen Siming for me and really helped me out. If it weren’t for you, I would never have gotten my revenge on Shen Siming and the others so easily. If you didn’t resent me for that, why would I divorce you because of your family?”

Su Jianxi held Li Tingxiao’s hand back. She did not know why Li Tingxiao would suddenly mention this, but she was willing to stick by him, through thick and thin.

Outside the apartment, however, two sneaky figures had been loitering around the door.

Li Jingchen took the mask off his face and looked at the apartment before him, sighing, “Tsk-tsk-tsk. To think the First Young Master of the Li Family Group is staying at a place like this. If word got out, our Li Family would become a laughing stock.”

Zhang Da, who stood next to Li Jingchen, was extremely envious, however. “The First Young Master truly is uber capable. He left the family without a penny to his name, but he managed to buy a house within three years. He’s my idol, seriously.”

Li Jingchen gave Zhang Da a kick. “Your idol, my butt. Hurry up and call the Madam. Tell her everything about my brother.”

Zhang Da looked shellshocked, and he shook his head like a pendulum. “Second Young Master, you can call her yourself. If I called Madam, First Young Master would have my hide later.”

Li Jingchen gave him a smile that did not reach his eyes. “If you don’t make that call, I’ll take your hide now.”

Finally, Zhang Da had no choice but to take his phone out in resignation.

The next morning, Su Jianxi woke up in bed.

When she remembered what had happened last night, Su Jianxi was so angry that she mercilessly kicked a certain someone sleeping on the bed.

Li Tingxiao gave her a half-smile. “Do you need me to serve you, Mrs. Li?”

“No thanks!” Su Jianxi said through gritted teeth.

Su Jianxi went into the bathroom to clean up, and Li Tingxiao got up too. If his wife was not sleeping in the bed, he had no inclination to keep lying in it at all.

When Li Tingxiao was about to walk to the bathroom, his phone rang.

He looked at the caller ID, and his expression immediately turned cold.

Li Tingxiao glanced in the direction of the bathroom before walking to the balcony.

“Hey, Mom. Something up?” The man’s voice was deep, slightly cold and distant.

“So you still remember me, your mother? Tingxiao, if Zhang Da hadn’t called me last night, I would never have known that you were living right at our doorstep. It’s been three years now, could you please come back? I know what happened back then was my fault, but if you don’t come back, the entire Li Family might be taken away. It belongs to you and Jingchen, and I won’t let anyone else lay even a finger on it.”

The woman pleaded on the other end of the phone, her voice actually sounding close to tears.

Li Tingxiao’s hand tightened around his phone, his knuckles turning vaguely white.

“I don’t give a damn about the Li Family inheritance.”

“I know, but would you let it fall into another’s hands? If you inherit the Li Family Group in the future and donate the entire thing to a charity, I won’t say another word. But what’s happening now is different. If someone else got their hands on the Li Family Group, we’ll be the losers. That person has been oppressing me for all these years! Please, I’m begging you, Tingxiao. Could you please come back?”

“I’m busy, so I’m hanging up now.” Li Tingxiao turned his phone off as soon as he hung up, and then he pulled out a cigarette and put it in his mouth. The faint blue light wavered in the morning mist, threatening to vanish at any moment. The wisps of smoke surrounded him, blurring the man’s expression.
