Upon seeing that, Jean did not buy it. Etan’s lips were upturned. “Let me take you to a place.” Jean followed him up the stairs to an open-air observation deck. It was October. The night breeze was so cold that it bit into Jean’s skin. Looking down from here, she could see the entire city skyline, as if the entire city was under her feet and she was the king here. Etan walked up beside her. “Is the night beautiful?” “Not at all. I have been seeing this since I was small. It gets old.” No matter what Etan said, Jean would sing a different tune. “I will fix your current situation, but you have to leave Cornview and promise never to come back again. Someone came forward silently and handed her a check. Jean took the check and smiled when she saw the multi-million figure. “This is not a small amount.” But the next second, she tore the check to pieces and threw it back at him. “Who do you think you are to decide my life, Etan?” “I know why you want me to go. Isn’
Just when Jean thought Etan would really throw her off the building, she heard him say, “Take her away, and don’t let Jason touch her.” “Aye.” While Jean was apprehended and carried away, she turned to look at Etan with a smile And then she mouthed the words ‘Wait. For. Me.’ It was like an ambiguous message from a lover, but Etan knew she wanted revenge. After a while, Jason ran over, out of breath. “Bro, where is she?” “She is gone.” Etan looked down at the night skyline, but Jean’s tearful face filled his mind. Jason opened his mouth, putting his hands on the railing to support himself as he kicked the ground with frustration. “Can you stop doing this next time, bro?” “Did you really take a liking to her?” “I am not. I… I…” Jason blushed and stuttered. Etan could not help but feel indescribably upset. “Jason, I told you before that I didn’t care who you hooked up with as long as it was not Jean. Let alone putting your emotion in her. Don’t forget that you have a
“Willie, you have mismanaged the company for the past few years and caused the company to suffer huge losses. It was I who kept the company afloat by working my butt off for 360 days a year. You probably forgot that two years ago, you almost went down on your knees to beg me not to leave Galax Star Productions.” Willie was most annoyed when Jean brought up this topic. Jean used to be his cash cow, and he treated her like a queen. But now, she had fallen from grace and was nothing. What made her think she could still be so proud of herself? “Why are you bringing up things from two years ago, Jean? Now it is you who owe the company money, and I am offering you a way out simply because we used to be acquaintances.” “Thanks, but no thanks.” Jean had enough of his nonsense. “Stop being arrogant, Jean. Do you still have any choices to say no to me? If you refuse, then I can only get someone else to pay off your debt.” “What do you mean?” “Jenny and you are close, I suppose.” “W
“Don’t touch me!” No matter how hard Jean tried to dodge, those men still managed to grope her arms and thighs. Their hands crawled all over her body like dirty and smelly rats. Her stomach churned with disgust. The more she struggled, the more brazen their laughter was. Jean grabbed a wine bottle and smashed it on Gavin’s head. He shook his head and pressed his hand on it. Blood started to flow through the gaps of his fingers. “How could you… get her! Get her now!” There were so many of them, and Jean was overpowered. “Stupid woman, you better behave.” “Frankie, teach her a lesson.” The bald old man walked towards Jean with a wicked smile. Jean was a sitting duck, waiting to be slaughtered. An intense fear rose from inside her. She could not accept this as she had not had her revenge yet. She could not accept this fate. Jean suddenly laughed. “You all just want to have fun. So why the hurry? Just come one by one.” She had a bewitching smile on her face. Her
Anne’s face looked so awful that she could almost no longer conceal the hatred in her eyes. What the hell was Jason thinking when he wanted to stick his neck out for Jean? Could he not see that this woman had been completely ruined? Everyone in Cornview knew how much the Moss family indulged Jason, and that he was Etan’s buddy. No matter how big the trouble he got himself in, he could still do it with impunity. Willie quietly clenched his teeth as he realized that things had been foiled today. “Willie, are you trying to fight with me for her?” Jason sneered. “Of course not. Who am I to fight you? I know my place. Take her with you if you like,” Willie said. “Stop playing boss in front of me, Willie. I no longer work for Galax Star Productions. Who gives you the right to decide my fate? If you like pimping so much, why don’t you sell your body for a good price first?” Willie’s face twitched. “Jean, you…” He wanted to swear, but when he saw Jason breathing down his neck
She sounded as if she was apologizing, but she was really exaggerating her kindness and innocent self. Jean was disgusted, feeling stupid for being deceived by such a disdainful person for so long. She smiled and raised her hand to wipe Anne’s tears away. “Silly girl, why would I be angry with you? You are my best friend.” “I was protective of you for the past few years. When you were bullied by those unspoken rules, I stood up for you; when you were stolen of acting roles, I fought for you; when you were slapped, I slapped back those who hit you. But I can’t protect you anymore because I am up to my neck now.” Anne’s mouth twitched. Jean told her this crap just to show everyone how kind and innocent she was, and what she had achieved so far was because Jean had shielded her from problems. Anne wanted to refute, but was interrupted. “Shhh, don’t say a word. I know you want to thank me, but please don’t mention it. You are my friend.” Jean hugged Anne. They looked like a p
Anne panicked. She wanted to call Alana right away, but Etan’s men were around her. So she could only deal with it. She wished she could cut Jean into a million pieces. Etan took Jean into his private lounge in Club Elegance. Usually, no one except cleaners could enter. Neither of them spoke as if they were strangers along the way. “Someone will bring you clothes in a minute. You may take a shower first.” Etan finally spoke, an unexplained anger boiling within him when he saw Jason’s jacket still on Jean’s shoulders. Jean’s eyes looked around at the decoration in the room and exclaimed in her mind, ‘This is outlandish!’ “I will take a shower first. Call me when the clothes arrived.” She then ignored Etan, took off Jason’s jacket, and disappeared into the bathroom. Again, Etan felt agitated when he heard the sound of running water. He paced back and forth in the room and then took out his cell phone and made a call. “Where are they?” “All locked up in the warehouse.”
Jean gave him a push. “Someone has come. Answer the door. I don’t want anyone to suspect anything.” “Are you afraid?” Etan sounded sarcastic. The knocking on the door continued. Not that Jean was afraid of being seen mingling with Etan. It was just that she had not used Etan enough and did not want to let her relationship with him be exposed. Jean ran her finger down Etan’s tall nose bridge. “Is it Jason? I am not sacred, but your buddy might get hurt if he sees us together.” The hand holding her waist let go of her at last. Etan’s face looked cold and dangerous. “Give me a second.” He turned and left, then closed the bathroom door behind him. Jean sat on the sink and laughed with her shoulders moving up and down. It was a laugh of ridicule. Tears were flowing down her cheeks. She turned to look at herself in the mirror and raised a hand to wipe away the tears. “Anne, the more you fear something, the more you will make your fear become a reality,” she told herself. To
