Mate's Scent

The Alpha of the Gritta pack along with 3 betas and Ostana 3 brothers were already seated at the main hall with Lucian, Adolphus, and Farkas, a beta from the Gamma pack.

“Prince Lucian, It is a pleasure to have you here today…” Alpha Tidwulf was saying while Lucian was lazily sitting with a bored expression. He wanted this to be over with. While Alpha Tidwulf was speaking, he was looking around his poorly decorated mansions. Lucian almost laughed when he saw a mini statue of the moon goddess. Did she really exist? Or was she punishing him by not giving him his soul mate? While he was lost in his thoughts, still looking around, the wind carried something, the air carried a scent. One of strawberries mixed with the smell of apples. His nose tried to trace where the scent was coming from till he finally face where it was coming from. It was coming from the entrance of the hall. The Luna of the pack, Luna Anya walked in with Princess Ostana following her closely behind.

He furrowed his brows, he had met her before. She was beautiful and strong but he never felt this connection before, he never smelled this from her. She never smelled like this. Did the moon goddess pair them when she lost her first mate?

“Prince Lucian…”, Asher, one of the princes of the pack called him back to reality, “I see you’re already spellbound”, he joked and they all laughed because they all saw him staring at Ostana.

Ostana blushed hard when she heard it. While she was walking in, Aurora and Ashina followed her in but they were 5 steps behind.

“Alright, let’s move to the dance hall as our guests are already waiting”, Alpha Tidwulf said and stood up, “Prince Lucian, this is my daughter, Ostana. I’m sure you’re aware of what she went through because she lost her mate, I hope you help her fill the void and take care of her”

“I will”, Lucian replied and nodded absentmindedly. His alpha speech was the least of his worries now. The scent was stronger and he couldn’t help but look at Ostana's direction again. He couldn’t help it and walked towards her.

Ostana’s heart was beating loudly as she saw him stroll towards her. She couldn’t help but notice his perfectly sized muscle bulge through his shirt. She could already feel the hard muscles under her hands. She quickly chastised herself at that thought, spending years without her mate had made her to long for more, more of physical touch.

As he was walking towards her, he felt the smell become strong. Ostana’s eyes wandered to his face. He was still as handsome as before. His dark skin and perfect jaw were a sight to behold. Just when he reached her, he didn’t stop. He kept on going till he stopped in front of Aurora.

Everyone paused whatever they were doing to look at them. Ostana had to turn to understand what was going on. He was obviously trailing a scent. Was he trailing Aurora’s scent? Were they mates? She couldn’t think properly, she was beginning to boil. But her anger could not be compared to Lucian.

He moved a step closer to Aurora again because she moved backward in fear. He was not yet Alpha yet he had the Alpha dominance. She was intimidated, and he was angry but for a different reason. The only sound Aurora could hear was his breathing, his flaring nostrils as he took in Aurora’s scent.

Realization struck him, followed by anger, “She’s a human”, he managed to say angrily. He had waited all these years to be mated with a human. He could feel it but he knew it would take time for her to feel it. It pained him that her scent was addictive, that he couldn’t take his eyes off her. She was a human for goddess sake, a lowlife, a maid, and a weak being! He was Lucian the Great. He was soon to be Alpha, how would he present a human to his pack as their next Luna?

“Unworthy”, he spat and walked away.

Adolphus ran after him just to stop him from doing anything rash in his anger, not that he could really do anything to stop Lucian from doing something when he was really angry.

The entire Tidwulf’s house was present when Lucian found his mate. Ostana broke down as she stared at Aurora in contempt.

Ashina worriedly ran to Aurora’s side, “Please don’t tell me this is real. I told you to dress simple!”

“This is not the time to place blame, stay by the princess side, I must run away”, Aurora said determinedly.

“And where exactly do you think you can run to?”, Asher’s voice boomed from behind; his anger visible to all. He was the first of the 3 sons of Alpha Tidwulf and was going to be the next Alpha. While he was still facing them, he immediately ordered a guard to take Aurora to the dungeons, “It is unreasonable that the great Prince Lucian be mated to a human. Surely there is some kind of sorcery and that is forbidden in our lands. So you will be locked up”.

Ashina immediately fell to her knees while Aurora remained unmoving. She was no sorcerer, meaning she was indeed mated to Lucian. Before the guard could touch Aurora, Lucian entered.

“Disrespecting my mate while I’m around?”, his loud voice boomed through the halls. His voice was enough to stop the guard in his tracks and shut Asher up. Meanwhile, the guests who were already at the dance hall started entering the main hall to see what was causing the commotion.

Ostana was not ready for this shame and embarrassment. She wasn’t even breathing properly again. The loud voices were fading into the background. Before she could process it, her eyes shut down slowly and then she fainted.

“Great”, Aurora whispered under her breath and then she turned to Ashina and whispered, “Don’t worry, don’t do anything rash. I’ll be fine”

No, Ashina couldn’t take this, “You cannot be mated to that beast. You will not leave here!”

Just as Ashina was finishing her sentence, Lucian stepped forward, “I have found my mate and I will leave with her”.
