Mag-log inThe way Domenico stared into Renata’s eyes made her heart race with fear. His gaze was steady but intense, as if he could see through every thought she tried to hide.
She opened her mouth to speak, but the weight of his stare made the words stick in her throat. For a moment she simply sat there, frozen, unsure of what to say or how to face him.
“Speak,” Domenico said in a commanding tone. His hand remained wrapped around her neck, not tight enough to choke her but strong enough to remind her that she could not simply walk away. “Why are you silent now?”
Renata swallowed hard before forcing the words out. “I was forced to walk down that aisle,” she said, her voice shaking despite her effort to stay composed.
Her lips quivered as the memories of the church returned, and her eyes slowly filled with tears.
“Do you really think I wanted to marry that disgusting old man? My father sold me to him just to save his business.”
Once the words started coming, she could no longer stop them. Weeks of fear, anger, and humiliation spilled out at once.
“When did you ever ask me to wait for you?” she continued, her voice rising with emotion. “That night meant nothing more than a one-night stand. The next morning when I woke up, you were gone. Just gone. And now you expect me to trust you?” Her breathing became uneven as tears gathered along her lashes. She pushed his rough hand away from her neck, creating distance between them. “You have no idea what I went through after that night.”
Her voice broke as she took a shaky breath. “I will abort this baby,” she said firmly, forcing the words out despite the fear inside her. “I don’t need this child.”
Domenico’s expression changed instantly. The calm certainty on his face hardened, and his voice dropped into something far colder.
“What did you say?” he asked.
“You heard me,” Renata replied, lifting her chin even though her hands trembled. “I don’t want this baby. You’re a criminal. You killed a man inside that church, and you didn’t even hesitate.”
The car suddenly fell silent.
“Stop the car,” Domenico ordered the driver.
The driver glanced at him through the mirror, clearly nervous. “Sir… we’re in the middle of the highway.”
“Do what I told you,” Domenico said in a chilling authority.
Within seconds, the driver pressed the brakes. The car came to a sudden stop on the deserted stretch of highway, and the vehicles behind them halted one after another with sharp screeching sounds.
Domenico stepped out of the car. His men were already exiting the other vehicles, watching silently as they waited for his next move. Without looking at them, he walked around the car to Renata’s side and pulled the door open.
Renata barely had time to react before he grabbed her arm and pulled her out. The force of the movement sent a wave of dread through her body.
“Ahh!” she cried out as her back hit the side of the car.
Domenico pressed her firmly against the vehicle, towering over her. His presence felt overwhelming in the empty highway, the dark road stretching endlessly around them.
“I am more than a criminal, Renata,” he said coldly. “I am mafia.”
His hand moved to the holster at his side, and within a second he pulled out his gun. The barrel rose until it pointed directly at her chest, exactly where her heart beat wildly beneath her ribs.
“So listen carefully,” he continued, his voice low and dangerous. “You will never speak about abortion in front of me again.”
Renata’s breath caught as she stared at the weapon aimed at her.
“I will empty every bullet into you if you try,” he said without raising his voice. “And I know you want to live. It’s written in your eyes.”
His gaze moved briefly to her stomach before returning to her face.
“You are carrying my child,” he said. “Until that baby is born, you are under my protection and my control. If you defy me, I will make you regret it.”
His words grew even darker.
“I will make you watch the people you care about suffer,” he said. “Starting with your family.”
Renata’s heart pounded so violently that she thought it might burst. Fear gripped every part of her body. She had never imagined that the man she had given herself to for the first time would turn out to be someone so terrifying.
The stranger from that night was no ordinary man.
He was a mafia boss, feared by everyone, and now her life was completely in his hands.
A tear slipped down Renata’s cheek, glistening under the dim highway lights. The sight of it made Domenico pause. For a brief moment, his expression shifted, and he slowly lowered the gun, withdrawing it from her chest.
“Get in the car,” he said.
Renata did not hesitate. She quickly turned away from him and climbed back inside. The moment she settled into the seat, her hands began to tremble uncontrollably.
Her entire body felt cold despite the warmth inside the car, and she pressed herself against the seat as if trying to make herself smaller.
Domenico remained outside for a moment longer, standing beside the car as he slipped the gun back into its holster. He began walking toward the other side when a voice stopped him.
“Don’t scare her like that.”
Domenico turned slightly and saw Emilio standing behind him. Emilio had stepped out of one of the cars that had halted behind them.
Unlike the other men, he did not look nervous or intimidated. After all, he had known Domenico for years and was his only friend.
Domenico tilted his head slightly as he looked at him. “Emilio, she wants to abort my baby,” he said. “I have to make it clear what kind of man I am. When she stands in front of me, she cannot say whatever she wants with that sharp tongue of hers.”
Without waiting for a reply, Domenico walked around the car and slid into the seat beside Renata.
Emilio watched for a moment before shaking his head slightly and returning to his own vehicle. Within seconds, the engines of the cars started again. One by one, the vehicles pulled back onto the empty highway as they disappeared into the night.
Emilio and Chase met at a cafe they decided upon. Reaching the second floor, Emilio spotted Chase already waiting for her. He walked to him and the two shook hands before taking their seats."One cappuccino, please," Emilio told the waiter."I'll take the same," Chase stated.Once the waiter left, Emilio turned serious, his one leg resting above the other."Did you find the footage?" he asked. "The lady who seemed to meet an unknown guy.""Yes. I did retrieve it. But you should know that she's already dead. I went to her home today after a report was filed. Someone killed her at point blank. It's a mercenary work," Chase said in a low voice.Chase slid a small flash drive across the table. "You’ll have to dig for the unknown man. He’s completely off the record."Emilio nodded and slipped the drive into the inner pocket of his leather jacket. "I appreciate the legwork, Chase."The waiter returned with their orders, and the two men lapsed into a brief, necessary silence as they drank th
The sharp ring of the phone echoed in the room causing both of them to stop."Damn it," Domenico cursed, his jaw tightening. "I'm not answering that."When the phone rang again, Renata broke the sudden tension with a breathless laugh. She sat up, pulling the sheets up to cover herself. "You should check it," she said, offering a playful shrug. "It might be something important.""Next time, it's going on silent," Domenico muttered, clearly frustrated by his own oversight as he reached for the device.Domenico’s brow furrowed as he saw Emilio’s name on the screen. He answered and stepped out onto the balcony while Renata retreated to the washroom, gathering her scattered clothes as she went."Emilio," Domenico said, his tone clipped. "You picked a hell of a time to call."There was a brief pause on the other end, followed by a sharp, knowing sound of amusement. "Wait, really?" Emilio teased, his grin audible through the phone. "Don't tell me you were—oh, forget it. I'll call you later."
Domenico’s eyes widened, the breath leaving him as if he’d been struck. Elena's and Luca's presence didn't matter at that time.Without a word of explanation to anyone, he took Renata’s hand, and steered her straight back to the car.The drive home was silent. The moment the bedroom door clicked shut behind them, he turned to her, his gaze burning with intensity. "You didn't lie, did you? About your feelings?"Renata bit her bottom lip, her heart hammering against her ribs. "I didn't," she breathed. "Seeing that woman... hearing about your past from someone else... it made me realize. I was jealous, Nico. I felt like I didn't know those parts of you, and that scared me. That’s why I finally said it."Domenico moved into her personal space, his hand coming up to cup the nape of her neck, his thumb tracing the line of her jaw until she was forced to look directly into his eyes. "You said you loved me," he repeated, his voice dropping to a low, raw rasp. "Say it again."Renata started to
They headed back down toward the town, the cobblestone streets feeling more familiar now.As they strolled through the main square, the atmosphere was light and sunny, momentarily making Renata forget her earlier grumbling. However, that peace was interrupted by a familiar, high-pitched voice.“Nico! You’re back so soon!”Renata felt her muscles tighten instinctively as Elena appeared from a nearby flower stall, clutching a small bouquet of wild lavender. She looked just as bright and cheerful as the day before, her eyes instantly lighting up as she spotted them.“Hello again!” Elena said, beaming at Renata before turning her gaze back to Domenico. “I was just telling my father that I saw you yesterday. He couldn’t believe it! He’s at the café just around the corner if you want to stop by and say hello.”Domenico’s expression remained polite but distant, his hand firm on the small of Renata’s back. “We’re just passing through today, Elena. We have a lot to see.”“Oh, of course, of cou
Domenico felt emotional hearing her words. It had been years since anyone told him he looked like his parents, at least, not in a way that felt like a compliment.Usually, people only compared him to them when speaking of authority, power, or the ruthless leadership expected of a Veronesi.“Thank you,” Domenico said in a low voice. His fingers lightly grazed the glass of the picture frame. “If it weren't for you, I don't think I would have ever been able to step foot inside this room again.”Renata stayed silent for a moment, simply watching him. She had so many things to thank him for as well, but seeing this usually cold, untouchable man melting right in front of her made her heart ache with tenderness.“Nico,” she said, turning to face him fully. “We’re in a relationship now. There’s no need to thank me for being here. Because if I started thanking you for everything you’ve done for me, I don’t think a single day would be enough to finish the list.”Domenico’s gaze softened, and he
Renata woke up the next day feeling full of energy. It wasn't just her body that felt rested; her mind felt lighter than it had in years. However, when she rolled over, the bed beside her was empty.“Where did he go?” She muttered as she sat up and spotted her breakfast already set out on the table with a small note resting against a glass of juice.“Enjoy your meal. I’ll be back soon.”"How could he be so cute?" she whispered, a soft smile appearing on her lips as she traced the neat, firm handwriting. “No one had ever bothered to write me a note like that before—” she said. It was a simple gesture, but it felt incredibly intimate. Before eating, she headed into the bathroom for a long, refreshing shower. The warm water helped wake her up completely, and she felt a sense of peace as she dressed in something light and comfortable. Once she was ready, she sat down to her breakfast, making sure to take her multivitamins."Thank God, I didn’t forget of he’d nag me," she chuckled to herse
Paolo stepped forward quickly, raising his hands as if he could calm the chaos that had suddenly erupted in the room. He tried to regain control of the situation before it spiraled further out of his grasp.“Giovanni, you cannot take my second daughter like this,” he said firmly, forcing authority

Renata hadn't expected Domenico to actually bring her into the heart of the city, let alone out in public. They arrived at a high-end restaurant situated at the top of a glass tower. Their table was in a semi-private lounge, not boxed in by walls, but partitioned off to allow the natural light to f
Reneta really wanted to crack open Domenico’s head and see if he was even in his right mind. The audacity of his words made her blood boil as she rolled her eyes at him, refusing to let him see even a hint of fear on her face.“No thanks,” she said firmly as she took a step back, putting distance b
