INICIAR SESIÓNRosalie's POV
The drive back to campus was painfully quiet.
Well... for me.
Emily, on the other hand, wouldn't stop talking. She had the music playing softly as she drove, occasionally humming along while stealing glances at me.
"You've been awfully quiet."
"Hmm?"
She chuckled. "See? You're not even listening."
"I am."
"Liar."
Emily sighed dramatically. "You're seriously worrying me now. Normally, I'd have to beg you to stop talking."
I managed a weak smile.
"Give me twenty-four hours."
She chuckled. "That's my girl. Tomorrow, I expect my annoying best friend back."
"Annoying?"
"Very. But she's my favourite person to be annoyed by.”
I sighed, resting my forehead against the cool window.
She wasn't wrong. I hadn't heard half the things she'd been saying. Because every time I closed my eyes, I saw him.
Caleb Kingston. His face. His voice. Those impossible midnight-blue eyes. Heat crawled up my neck.
God.
Could I please stop remembering last night every five seconds?
Emily nudged my shoulder lightly. "You know, Dad probably scared you."
"What?"
She laughed. "He has that effect on people."
I swallowed. If only you knew.
"My dad is... intense."
"That's one way to describe him," I muttered under my breath.
"Huh?"
"Nothing."
She smiled fondly. "He wasn't always like that."
I looked at her. "What do you mean?"
Emily shrugged.
"He used to smile more when I was little."
Her expression softened. "But business changed him."
I frowned. "You make it sound like business is a person."
"It practically is."
She laughed again. "He's married to his work."
Something twisted inside me.
Married to work but not married.
Wait. Why was I even thinking about that?
I mentally smacked myself.
Emily continued. "You know those business magazines?"
I nodded absentmindedly. "They call him the Ice King."
Ice King? I nearly laughed.
The same man who had looked at me like I was dessert barely twelve hours ago?
If only they knew.
"They're all terrified of him."
Emily grinned mischievously.
"His employees practically shake whenever he walks into a room."
I blinked. Really?
That didn't sound like the man who had carried me to bed so effortlessly.
Stop. For heaven's sake, Rosa. Stop thinking about the bed.
My phone suddenly vibrated inside my bag.
I pulled it out. My stomach dropped.
It was Maxwell Calling...
I rejected it immediately. A second later, the phone rang again.
I groaned. Emily glanced sideways.
"Seriously?"
I pressed decline again. The screen lit up once more.
Maxwell Calling...
"What does he want now?" Emily scoffed.
"I don't know."
"You don't?"
She snorted. "He wants his punching bag back."
My fingers tightened around the phone.
"No."
I shook my head.
"He wants the version of me that forgave him every time."
Emily spared me a quick smile.
"There she is."
"What?"
"The Rosa I know."
She reached over and squeezed my hand briefly before returning both hands to the steering wheel.
"Don't let him make you doubt yourself again."
I nodded. This time, I meant it.

BACK IN SCHOOL
Westfield University looked just as busy as ever.
Students flooded the walkways, chatting in groups as they hurried between lectures.
For the first time since yesterday, everything almost felt normal.
Almost. Until people started looking.
One whisper. Then another. Then another.
Their eyes followed me wherever I walked. My heartbeat quickened.
Emily noticed too. She rolled her eyes dramatically.
"News travels faster than Wi-Fi around here."
I forced a laugh.
"I can see that. They'll find something else to gossip about tomorrow."
Hopefully.
We hadn't even reached the Faculty of Business before someone called my name.
"Rosa!"
I froze. Oh, No. Please no.
Maxwell stood a few metres away, holding the biggest bouquet of red roses I'd ever seen.
Several students slowed down. Some outright stopped walking.
Great. Just exactly what I needed.
Emily folded her arms. "What do you want?"
He ignored her completely. His eyes stayed on me.
"I've been waiting for you."
"I can see that." I said sarcastically.
He walked closer. "I've called you over thirty times."
"I know."
"You blocked me."
"I know."
His shoulders slumped. "Can we please talk?"
"No."
"It'll only take five minutes, Rosa."
"No."
"Two?"
"No."
A few students had already taken out their phones.
Wonderful.
Campus entertainment had officially begun. Maxwell stepped even closer.
"I'm sorry. I messed up."
Silence.
"I made the biggest mistake of my life."
I stared at the flowers. Then back at him.
"You think flowers fix cheating?"
"No."
"You think apologies erase betrayal?"
"No."
"Then why are you here?"
His jaw tightened, completely clueless on way to say. "Because I love you."
I laughed. It surprised even me. This entire drama was not funny at all. It was sad.
"You don't love me, Max."
"I do."
"You loved me while sleeping with my roommate?"
His face crumpled. "It only happened once."
Emily barked out a sarcastic laugh. "Oh, congratulations."
I almost smiled. Maxwell looked desperate.
"Please, Rosa."
"It meant nothing. There was no emotion. I swear."
I looked him straight in the eye. "You know when you really lost me?"
Hope flickered across his face.
"It wasn't when I caught you cheating."
His brows knitted together.
"It was when you tried convincing me it was somehow my fault."
The hope vanished. "You made me question myself. You made me wonder if I wasn't enough. Hell, you even made me feel guilty for something you chose to do."
I shook my head slowly. "No one who truly loves someone does that."
His lips parted but no words came out.
I stepped around him. "This conversation is over."
"Rosa—"
"I wish you well, Max."
I didn't raise my voice as I simply walked away.
Emily flashed Maxwell a triumphant smile before hurrying after me.
"You handled that beautifully."
Did I? Because my heart still hurts. But at least, it wasn't breaking anymore.
Behind us, everything went quiet.
I didn't look back. I refused to. I imagined Maxwell standing exactly where I'd left him while the bouquet slips from his fingers onto the pavement.
I wasn't done with the image in my head when I heard his voice again.
"You'll come back to me, Rosa. I promise you will."
I heard him clearly but I pretended I didn't. Over my dead body would I return back to Max.
Rosalie's POVI barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the same words.ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT REVIEW.They kept replaying in my head like some cruel joke. Rosalie Smith. The girl who had spent the last two years maintaining one of the highest CGPAs in the department. The girl who had worked until two in the morning on assignments while everyone else was out partying. The girl who had nearly cried when she won the overall academic genius award because it was one of the few things that made me feel like all my sacrifices had actually meant something. Now, I was being accused of cheating by sleeping with a lecturer for academic advantage. I wanted to scream. Instead, I stared at myself in the mirror and forced myself to breathe."You didn't do anything wrong."My reflection stared back at me. "You didn't do anything wrong."I repeated it again. Then again. Until I almost believed it. I grabbed my bag.Whatever happened today, I wasn't going to walk into that meeting looking guilty
Rosalie's POVBy Friday morning, I had almost convinced myself that everything was finally getting back to normal.Almost.Maxwell hadn't approached me since the incident in the courtyard. I hadn't seen Mr Kingston again after the car ride. That was good. It was exactly what I wanted. At least, that's what I kept telling myself.I walked through the university gates with Emily beside me, clutching my books against my chest."You're awfully quiet this morning." I glanced at her. "I'm tired.""You're always tired.""Then maybe I'm consistently tired."She snorted. "That's not a thing."I smiled despite myself. For the first time in days, I actually felt a little lighter. Maybe everything was settling down.Maybe I could go back to worrying about assignments and exams instead of cheating boyfriends, mysterious men and the complete destruction of my sanity. Then I noticed it. A girl walking past us looked at me and whispered something to her friend. They both turned around. My smile faded
Caleb's POV"Did he hurt you?"She went completely still. For a moment, I wasn't sure she had even heard me over Emily's voice. Then her gaze dropped to my hand.I followed it. My hand was still resting lightly against her knee.I frowned. When had that happened?I pulled it away immediately and settled it on my thigh. Control. I had lost it for exactly one second. One second too long."No," Rosalie finally answered. Her voice was quiet. "I'm fine."She wasn't. I could see the faint red mark around her wrist from where the bastard had grabbed her.My jaw tightened. She's hurt. It's barely a mark. She is hurt.I stared out the window. It's none of your business.A low growl rumbled somewhere deep inside me. I clenched my teeth. That voice had become increasingly difficult to ignore since she walked into my life.Or perhaps since I walked into hers.Either way, it needed to stop."Are you sure?" I asked.Rosalie glanced at me. For a fraction of a second, something vulnerable flickered a
Rosalie POV"Is there a problem here?"The words resonated in my ears again. Maxwell was now facing him directly while I watched from behind. "So you're talking to me?" His brows furrowed as he looked Caleb up and down. "This doesn't concern you."Caleb didn't move. He didn't even blink. His hands remained tucked neatly inside the pockets of his tailored black trousers, his posture relaxed in a way that somehow made him look even more intimidating."It ceased being private," he said evenly, "the moment she asked you to let go."The small crowd that had begun forming around us fell completely silent. Maxwell scoffed."She's my girlfriend.""Ex-girlfriend." The correction left my mouth before I even thought about it.Every pair of eyes swung toward me. Maxwell's face tightened."C’mon. We are not over yet. Babe, you know I didn't mean to cause all of this drama.""I know exactly what you meant." I lifted my chin. "And I also know we're over."His jaw flexed."You can't throw away four
Rosalie POV"You've been staring into space for the last five minutes."Emily's voice snapped me back to reality."Huh?"She narrowed her eyes suspiciously."I asked if these earrings looked better with silver bracelets or gold."I blinked. "I... didn't even know you were asking a question.""I knew it."She sighed dramatically, holding up the velvet jewelry box again."You've officially left Earth."I couldn't help letting out a small laugh."I'm sorry."She opened the box once more, admiring the sparkling diamond earrings inside."I'll forgive you because these are gorgeous.""You really like them?" I asked an obviously dumb question because the items were damn gorgeous. I could swear the thought of stealing them came to mind. "I do."She smiled softly."Dad's hopeless at remembering birthdays."Her words really surprised me."He is?""Oh, absolutely."She laughed. "The man remembers billion-pound meetings but forgets his own daughter's birthday."I chuckled."So this..."She lifte
Rosalie POVThe applause seemed to go on forever. Heat burned across my cheeks as I hurriedly sat back down, wishing the chair would magically swallow me whole.God.Could this day get any more embarrassing? I didn't even dare look toward Caleb. Mr. Kingston.Whatever I was supposed to call him now. I simply shoved my notebook into my bag and focused on one thing. Escape.Students immediately crowded around him the moment the lecture ended and questions flew from every direction."Sir, do you take interns every year?""What advice would you give young entrepreneurs?""Can I connect with you on LinkedIn?"Even a few lecturers joined the crowd, laughing and shaking his hand. He answered every question with the same calm authority he'd displayed throughout the lecture. Meanwhile, I quietly zipped my bag.Perfect. Everyone was distracted. I could leave unnoticed.I slipped out of my seat; one step. Then another. Almost there."Miss Smith."I froze.No. Please no.The entire lecture hall w
