Chapter 2

Author: Teal Brewster
She frowned impatiently. “What era are we living in? Is that flap of skin really that important to you?

“If it bothers you, I’ll just go to the hospital right now and get one put in.”

At her nonchalant attitude, I was deeply disappointed.

Back then, she was the one who said people in our circle were too promiscuous. She wanted a “pure” marriage.

That was why, during our three-year relationship, I never once tried to touch her.

“If you put it that way, this wedding isn’t that important either. Since you don’t care, just find someone else to marry!”

Hearing this, Harold immediately put on a holier-than-thou act.

“Don’t fight over me. If it comes to it, I’ll leave right now.”

As soon as he finished speaking, he headed for the door.

He did not forget to deliberately bump me aside with his shoulder as he left.

With a loud thud, the door slammed shut. Lana slapped me across the face in frustration.

“Have you had enough? Must you drive Harold away before you’re satisfied?

“Do you have any idea how heartbroken Harold is because I’m marrying you?

“He already made sacrifices for us. Can’t you be a little more gracious?”

My throat tightened, and my face began to burn.

At that moment, I could not understand how the innocent young woman who used to smile so sweetly at me could have turned into such an unreasonable person.

Lana grabbed her phone and turned to leave.

Before she left, she said threateningly, “I’m warning you. If you want me to keep living with you, you’d better stop picking on Harold!”

After Lana left, the once-lively room suddenly fell silent.

Her parents, having heard the news from somewhere, rushed over.

When they saw that I was alone, her father, Mr. Sidney, could not hide his frustration.

“Weston, I failed to raise my daughter properly. Just wait. I’ll call her back right away.”

I looked up. “No need. The marriage between the Sidney and Lobell families is off.”

Mr. Sidney nearly collapsed to the floor.

Everyone in our circle knew I had been pursuing Lana for three whole years.

Whenever a handbag made its global debut, she was always the first to get her hands on it.

When she wanted to hold an art exhibition, I bought the most luxurious exhibition hall in the museum.

When she wanted to act in a movie, I bought an entertainment company to serve her alone.

To be with her, I did not hesitate to shift the company’s focus to Riverville.

I even did business with Sidney Corporation at a loss just to win over my future in-laws.

With my support, Sidney Corporation leaped from an obscure small company to become one of the nation’s top 100 enterprises.

I believed I had done my absolute best for Lana, yet there was always Harold by her side.

When I met her parents, Harold walked straight out of Lana’s bedroom in shorts.

He sat on the sofa with his legs crossed and casually asked, “Lana, how long are you planning to drag this out?”

The way he acted indicated that he did not care about me at all.

When Lana introduced me as her fiance, Harold’s gaze toward me turned particularly icy.

Ever since, Harold had relentlessly targeted me.

When I went on dates with Lana, he secretly slipped me food I was allergic to.

He would watch my face swell up and laugh his head off.

He even went so far as to pretend he was having heart pain when Lana was about to take me to the hospital, insisting that she take him for a physical instead.

Every time he pulled one of these pranks, Lana would say it was just Harold’s way of showing he liked me.

Even when my brake lines were cut, or when glass shards were slipped into my shoes, Lana still stuck to her story.

I kept telling myself that once we were married, she would realize that men and women need some polite distance between them.

Unfortunately, Lana mistook my tolerance for indulgence and completely crossed the line.

I called my secretary.

“Cancel all collaborations with Sidney Corporation and withdraw our sponsorship from this family.

“From now on, whenever Sidney Corporation wants a project, snatch it away at any cost.

“As for the Herb family’s company, I want to hear that it’s gone bankrupt within three days.”

During our three-year relationship, the closest I ever got to her was holding her hand.Lana always said we had to wait until after we were married to do “that kind of thing.”I held back for over a thousand days and nights. We were broken up, but she was suddenly offering herself to me.I took a few steps back. Then, Lana lay flat on the floor.I looked down at her in disgust. “You truly are disgusting.“I don’t think you ever liked me. It was the money and power that you liked.”In the past, if I had humiliated her like this, she would have screamed and demanded an apology. At that moment, she just tilted her head as tears streamed down her face.“Weston, I know I was wrong.“From now on, you’ll be the only man in my life. I’ll never betray you again.“I’m begging you, please give me one more chance.”Alondra stood in the doorway. She looked at me teasingly.“Your charm hasn’t faded a bit, Mr. Lobell. Even your ex-wife has come knocking on her own.”I quickly walked tow

“Is this really how it ends between us?”Tears welled up in Lana’s eyes. Her makeup was a smudged mess.“Weston, have you forgotten? You once said you loved me and would give up everything for me!”I looked at her in disgust. “Lana, you turned me into a laughingstock in the whole of Riverville with that stained sheet.“Are you really talking to me about love right now? Do you have any dignity left?”I stood up and looked down at her.“I stand before you now as the CEO of Lobell Group and the creditor of the Sidney Corporation and Herb Group. One thing is certain. I am no longer your lover.”I turned away and offered Alondra an apologetic smile.“Sorry for making a scene. Let’s find another place.”Alondra rose gracefully and nodded at me.She slipped her arm through mine. Together we walked past Lana, who was slumped on the floor. As we passed Lana, Alondra paused and whispered in a voice only the two of us could hear, “Mr. Lobell, some people only realize they once held the

He stepped forward to help Lana up, but she pushed him away.“It’s all your fault!”Lana screamed hysterically, “If it weren’t for you, would I have ended up like this?”Harold froze. “Lana, how can you say that? Aren’t we childhood friends?”Lana showed no mercy. When she thought of the astronomical compensation, she hated the man standing before her with a passion.“Do you think our childhood friendship is something you can use as currency? Because of you, I’ve been kicked out of Sidney Corporation!”Harold’s expression suddenly changed. “What nonsense are you talking about!”Lana stood up and pointed a finger at his nose.“My company is facing bankruptcy, and soon, it’ll be your family’s turn!”Harold’s face turned deathly pale.“How is that possible?“Weston loves you so much. How could he ever do anything to make you hate him?!”I cleared my throat. “If you’re going to be all lovey-dovey, do it somewhere else!”Harold instinctively wanted to yell at me like he used to

Her eyes were red and sad, as if she was waiting for me to soften my heart once again.I snorted derisively. “Weren’t you quite the talker last night? What are you doing coming back to me now?”Lana choked on her words. “I just felt sorry for Harold last night. After that, I planned to go our separate ways!“Trust me, you’re the only one in my heart!”If she had said that a few days ago, I might actually have believed her.She had cheated on me, yet she expected me to willingly accept being cuckolded, as if I could ever agree to something like that.I waved my hand. The bodyguard standing nearby grabbed Lana and tossed her onto the street.Just then, Lana’s parents rushed over.Lana ran to them. “Mom, Dad, please talk to Weston and convince him to let me in.”Mr. Sidney slapped her across the face. “Behave yourself! If it weren’t for your stupidity, would Sidney Corporation be facing bankruptcy?”Lana’s eyes widened. She never expected her father, who had always doted on her,

She closed the page and accidentally tapped on a news push notification. The moment she opened it, a scream echoed through the room. Lana’s trembling hands could barely hold onto her phone. The screen displayed a shocking headline.[Lobell Group announced the termination of all cooperation with the Sidney Corporation. Sidney Corporation’s stock price has plummeted by 30%.] “No. This can’t be!” In a panic, she dialed her father’s number. “Dad, has Weston lost his mind?! How could he do this? “We just had our wedding yesterday. How dare he target our family’s company like this?!” Mr. Sidney’s voice was hoarse on the other end of the line. “You’re the one who’s lost your mind. No matter how much you like that boy from the Herb family, you shouldn’t have embarrassed Weston on your wedding day! “Because of your actions, the company is now facing bankruptcy. All the companies that were supposed to partner with us have now switched to Lobell Group!” Only then did Lana r

Lana took Harold to the racetrack in the western part of the city.On the way there, she could not help but feel a little uneasy.“Harold, are you sure Weston isn’t hurt? I thought I saw blood on his head.”Harold slammed on the brakes and puffed out his cheeks in anger.“Lana, what do you mean by that? Are you accusing me of lying?“We grew up together. How can you question what I say just because of some outsider?”Lana bit her lip. “That’s not what I meant. But Weston is married to me now. He’s like your brother-in-law. He’s not exactly an outsider.”Harold had not expected Lana to be thinking about me when she was with him.Furious, he bit down on Lana’s lip.“Just because you’re married doesn’t mean you can’t go out and have fun. When you’re with me, you’re not allowed to think about other men.”Lana kissed him back half-heartedly, while thinking about stopping by a luxury boutique later. She recalled that I had mentioned Patrick Felice had released a new line a few day
