AUTHOR’S NOTE ❤️

Dear Lovelies,

I want to take a moment to say thank you and sorry.

Thank you for reading Cara’s story, for waiting patiently for each update, for leaving comments, sharing your thoughts, and for continuing to support me even when the updates have been slower than usual.

Unfortunately, I've been trying to write Cara’s story as a standalone but the platform doesn't think it's good enough.

Due to that updates on Cara and Martin’s story will be stopped from now on until the story is revised to meet the required standard.

I'm sorry if you're already invested in it.

The truth is you're not alone, this is one of my favourite stories that I wanted to share with my readers and it hurts me deeply.

That said, I'll be updating an entirely different story from now on, titled:

“My Husband's Father wants me.”

This is a completely different story that is not related to Aria/Kayden's story. It's a standalone.

Your messages, votes, reviews, and kind words would mean the world to me.

It also makes the platform pay more attention to my craft, more than I can properly put into words.

Thank you.

I appreciate every single one of you.

With love, Pretty Darlie ❤️

SYNOPSIS

For three years, once-heiress Arabella Morgan played the perfect wife, enduring Ethan Sterling’s coldness while quietly watching her marriage die.

Then she walks in on her husband in bed with his secretary, Sienna.

When Ethan coldly announces that he is filing for divorce, Arabella removes her wedding ring and walks away with what little dignity she has left.

But when her mother’s sudden medical crisis leaves her desperate for money, Ethan refuses to help. So does her own father.

The only person willing to step in is Damian Sterling—Ethan’s ruthless billionaire father.

Damian has watched his son take Arabella for granted for years. Now that she is finally free, the restraint he has maintained for far too long begins to crack.

He offers her protection. Power. A way out.

Then he gives her the one thing she should never accept from the one man she should never want.

“Marry me.”

Accepting Damian’s proposal could make Arabella the most hated woman in high society—and turn her ex-husband’s jealousy into something far more dangerous.

But Damian Sterling does not care about the scandal.

He has wanted Arabella for longer than she knows.

And if the entire Sterling empire has to burn for him to keep her, he will light the match himself.

The charity gala ended early, and all I wanted was to surprise Ethan before he plunged back into his work.

Holding the spare key in my trembling hand, I unlocked the bedroom door quietly, expecting to find him hunched over his laptop. Instead, the scene before me shattered my entire world.

My husband was on our bed with another woman.

Shock pinned me to the doorway. Neither of them noticed me until the woman opened her eyes. Sienna. His secretary—the woman who bore a striking resemblance to his first love. The same woman he had repeatedly accused me of being paranoid about.

Sienna tapped Ethan’s shoulder, her breath hitching. He froze, turning slowly until his eyes met mine.

The silence in the room was suffocating. I forced air into my lungs, my voice barely above a whisper. "How long has this been going on?"

Ethan didn't rush to cover himself. He didn't look remorseful. He simply pulled up his trousers, his expression as cold and indifferent as if I were a stranger interrupting a business meeting.

"How long what?" he asked, running a hand through his hair. "You come home early without warning, and now you’re demanding answers to things that aren't your concern."

"Not my concern?" My hands clamped around my handbag so hard my knuckles turned white, fighting to keep my voice from cracking. "I am your wife, Ethan."

"On paper, Arabella," he corrected sharply. "This marriage has been a dead arrangement for years. Don't stand there playing the heartbroken wife. You knew we weren't happy. We were never a real couple."

The words hit with the physical force of a blow.

"We were trying," I rasped, taking a deliberate step toward him. "Or at least, I was. While I waited up for you every night, you were building a life with her."

Beside him, Sienna pulled the silk sheet over her chest. A flash of triumph crossed her face before it was quickly replaced with a fragile, fearful facade.

The usual pitiful expression she wore when facing me, "I… I didn't want you to find out like this, Arabella," she stammered, sniffing softly. "I never meant to hurt you, but you have to accept reality. Ethan doesn't love you anymore. He's been preparing the divorce papers for months..."

She stopped abruptly, glancing at Ethan as if she had let the secret slip by mistake.

The silence from Ethan confirmed every word.

"So you were discussing our marriage with your secretary while telling me everything was fine?" I asked, a bitter laugh threatening to spill out.

"She's right about the divorce," Ethan said flatly, avoiding my eyes. "I was going to present the papers next week anyway. There's no need to make a scene."

"You replaced me," I whispered, the harsh reality settling into my chest. "And you planned the exit behind my back."

I swallowed the sob rising in my throat and reached for my left hand. My fingers were shaking, but my resolve hardened. I slid the diamond band off my finger.

Three years of indifference flashing through my mind in 3 seconds.

"Fine," I said, my voice dropping to an icy stillness. "You want a divorce? I agree."

I stepped forward and dropped the wedding ring onto the mattress right beside Sienna.

Ethan’s eyes widened, his calm composure faltering for the first time. "What are you doing?"

"Saving you the trouble," I replied, holding my head high. "You don't have to wait until next week. Send the papers to my lawyer—"

I caught myself, the truth slicing through me. I no longer had a personal lawyer. I was no longer the proud Morgan heiress whose family backed empires. I was just the powerless wife of Ethan Sterling. The one he was finally discarding.

I forced the vulnerability down. "Call me when they're ready to sign."

I turned on my heel and walked out.

"Arabella, stop!" Ethan snapped, his footsteps echoing behind me. "You can't just walk away without discussing how we manage the press and the family!"

"You made your choice, Ethan. Manage your own mess."

"Don't you dare walk out on me!" he warned, reaching for my arm.

"Ethan... ouch! It hurts!" Sienna’s painful cry echoed from the bedroom, stalling his pursuit.

At the top of the stairs, I glanced back one last time. His eyes burned with dark fury; mine met his with quiet defiance. Then I turned and hurried down the stairs, out into the cool night air.

My hands shook so violently I couldn't hold my phone steady to order a ride. I rushed down the driveway toward the main gates, needing to put as much distance between myself and the estate as possible.

Before I could open an app, my phone buzzed with an incoming call from an unknown number. I pressed the answer button.

"Hello, Arabella. It's Mr. Vance."

I paused under the streetlamp. Mr. Vance was the head legal counsel for the Sterling family enterprise—a man who answered to only one person—Damian Sterling, Ethan’s father.

"Mr. Vance," I said, catching my breath. "If this is about the charity foundation, please call me tomorrow."

"This isn't about the foundation, Mrs. Sterling," Mr. Vance said, his tone gravely serious. "I've been instructed to contact you immediately."

"Instructed by whom?"

"Mr. Damian Sterling," Vance replied crisply. "He requires your presence in his office right away. I have a car waiting at the end of your street."

The line went dead.

I looked down the block. A sleek, black sedan sat idling by the curb, its rear door held open by a driver in dark livery. My heart hammered against my ribs. Why was the formidable CEO of the Sterling empire reaching out to me the exact moment I left his son? By this time of the night too?

"What do you want?" I asked, my voice dropping into a cold register."Arabella, you're my wife," Ethan barked. "Can't I call you unless I have a specific reason?"The spacious living room was deathly quiet, and Ethan's voice was loud and clear enough to bleed through the receiver. Instinctively, I pulled the phone from my ear and cast an uneasy glance at Damian, who was already standing close by, his dark brows pulled tight in a frown."If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up," I said, my thumb hovering over the red disconnect button."Arabella, you've got a lot of nerve lately. You'd better get your ass back home right now while I'm still asking nicely.""Why should I come back?" I let out a dry, humorless laugh, cutting straight to the chase. After those carefully planted photos of us kissing in the hospital parking lot had hit the media, Ethan must've expected me to seek a confrontation with him. Since days had passed with absolute silence from my end, he must have reached the en

Arabella's POV The next morning. I didn't remember when I finally drifted off to sleep. But when I peeled my eyes open, the digital clock on the nightstand read 8:30 AM.Running on the assumption that Damian would have long since left for the office, I took my time. I brushed my teeth, took a long, hot shower, and dressed in my clothes from the day before, ready to make my escape back to the penthouse. It wasn't until I stepped down the grand staircase an hour later that the memory hit me. My gaze inadvertently swept across the living room sofa, and a fierce, searing heat rushed straight to my cheeks.*How on earth could I have been so clumsy?* I chided myself inwardly, mentally banging my head against the nearest wall. And as if that agonizing humiliation of *touching him* wasn't enough, the memory of the kitchen—and *that* kiss—flooded uninvited back into my brain."Miss Morgan, you're awake."I blinked, snapping out of my daze to find Hannah standing near the foyer with a warm s

Damian's POVTime completely dissolved the moment our lips locked. In that space, there was only her. The heat of her body pressing against mine was the only thing my senses registered. My fingers tangled into the soft strands at the nape of her neck, anchoring her in place, while my other hand gripped her waist, molding her tightly against me. I kissed her with a hunger that had been building for years, my tongue sweeping past her lips to claim her. The sweet, intoxicating taste of her made me dizzy with a raw, primal desire. Her hands, which had initially braced against my chest in self-defense, shifted. Her fingers drifted over my shirt, tracing the contours of my chest and abs before rising to grip my shoulders. She began to meet my rhythm, mimicking my movements and returning the kiss with an eager yet clumsy passion that short-circuited my mind.Every slide of her hands left a trail of fire across my skin, snapping the very last thread of my restraint. The tempo shifted natu

Author's POVDamian stared down at Arabella’s wide, horrified eyes, caught somewhere between wanting to laugh out loud and groaning in sheer frustration.Did she have any idea what she was doing to him? *Fuck.* How he wished he could just throw caution to the wind, pin her beneath him right there on the sofa, and take whatever his body was screaming for.Instead, he forced himself to swallow the sudden ache, taking a slow, controlled breath. He needed to handle this carefully so she didn't crawl out of her skin with embarrassment. Before he could even voice a reassuring word, Arabella snapped out of her paralyzed state. She violently jerked her hand back as if she had just touched a red-hot iron. The heat rushing to her cheeks put every shade of crimson to shame."I... I am so sorry," she stammered, her voice trembling with intense panic. "I didn't mean to do that! Did I hurt you?"Despite the uncomfortable tension coiling in his lower body, a genuine smile tugged at the corner of Da

ARABELLA'S POV I picked up my phone and tapped the screen to check the time. **11:30 PM**. It had been over an hour since I retreated to the suite, took a warm shower, and dragged myself back into bed.Yet, sleep felt like a distant, impossible dream. For a fleeting second, I contemplated calling Tessa. But I quickly dismissed the thought. Her phone wouldn't be with her, and even if it were, waking her up felt cruel.Thirty more minutes bled away in a relentless cycle of tossing and turning until I felt like I was at the absolute end of my rope. My thoughts wouldn't stop racing, and my skin felt too tight. No matter how many times I changed positions, sleep remained frustratingly out of reachI needed air.Maybe a quiet, aimless walk through the mansion would clear my head.Slipping out from under the covers, I picked up the silk robe Hannah had left out for me earlier and draped it loosely over my sleepwear.Hannah had delivered a striking two-piece nightwear, something I knew had

Arabella's POV I don't know how long I stayed buried in Damian’s embrace. The only thing I knew was that he didn't complain. He just stood there quietly, holding me close and letting me fall apart in a way I never had before.I didn't want to admit it to myself, but I felt safe in his arms. Still, a quiet voice in the back of my mind whispered that I shouldn't keep taking advantage of his kindness. So, even though every fiber of my being screamed to stay nestled against him forever, I gently pulled myself away."I... I should go," I rasped, my throat tight."You don't have to leave, Arabella. Just spend the night here," he urged, his tone unusually gentle.I stared up at him, the mere thought of sleeping under the same roof with Damian sending a wild flurry of nervous imagination through my system. I was terrified of what my own vulnerable heart might do."My fever's broken," I argued weakly, as if that was the only reasonable defense."It's too late in the night, and the doctor ex
