Devon's pov.

NEXT MORNING.

I did not remember falling asleep.

The last thing I recalled clearly was Taylor curled beside me on the floor, her head resting against my shoulder, her breaths coming out in small uneven puffs that made me check twice to be sure she was actually asleep.

On our honeymoon, she had been nervous about the idea of sleeping alone, nervous about sex, nervous about everything really. So I stayed beside her. It was easier to let her drift off when she felt like I was close enough to protect her.

The spider thing had been a lie.

Even the idea of being bitten on our honeymoon had been made up by me. I was never scared of spiders a day in my entire life. But she was scared of sleeping alone and scared of being touched, so I fed her something her mind could use as comfort.

Something that would let me stay close without making her run away.

Somehow, the memories from last night were in pieces. What else can't I remember? It was quite odd.

When I finally opened my eye

  • My Devil Ex-husband's Obsession    My plan begins

Devon's pov The shrill vibration of my ringtone dragged me out of sleep. For a second, I didn’t even open my eyes, I just lay there breathing, feeling the deep, sharp throb under my skin where Derrick punched me yesterday. God! It hurts so bad.. I pressed my fingers against the bruise, winced slightly, and thought, “No one will know where Derrick is right now. I made sure of that….” I finally reached for the phone on the nightstand. The screen flashed…Paulina.“Wonderful. Just wonderful! “ I thought, rolling my eyes.I swiped to answer, holding the phone loosely to my ear.The yelling hit immediately.“Devon! What on earth is happening? Why am I waking up to your name being dragged into some…some fucking ridiculous scandal with that Taylor girl? Do you know how this makes the company look? Do you know how this makes me look? Do you..”I didn’t even sigh. I just stared ahead at the blank wall as she kept going, her voice rising with every sentence, like she thought that if she scr

  • My Devil Ex-husband's Obsession    Remember my promise?!

Taylor's pov I ran through the dimly lit streets with my heart hammering so violently I thought it would burst through my chest. Every passing car made my stomach twist tighter. I hoped it'd be them. Where are they? Where is Lara? Where did they Ashley? Why isn’t anyone answering me? My trembling fingers fumbled over my phone, pressing the buttons frantically, dialing numbers I already knew I would get no answer from. “Lara! Ashley! Please, answer me!” My voice cracked, echoing into the night as if my screams could somehow reach them. But nothing came. No sounds, no words, nothing but my own ragged breathing and the pounding of my pulse in my ears. Why is no one answering? Why is everyone gone? Where are they hiding my baby? I tried Derrick next, my fingers shaking so violently that I could barely press the buttons. The line rang, and rang, and rang…but he wasn’t picking up. What if something happened to him? What if he’s gone? What if they took everyone from me? I

  • My Devil Ex-husband's Obsession    A hoax

Taylor's povThe second Derrick’s boot slammed into Devon’s ribs, something inside me snapped in half. This wasn’t part of the plan. This wasn’t even fucking close.“Derrick!” I screamed. “Stop…stop! You’re hurting him!”He didn’t even look at me. His chest rose and fell in sharp, angry breaths, like a storm was building inside him and had no place to go except through Devon’s bones.Devon gasped, folding over himself. “What the hell…” he coughed, blood staining his lip, “...is wrong with you?”Derrick finally answered, but the voice that came out of him didn’t sound human. I couldn't even recognize him. “You,” he growled, “are what’s wrong with me.”I froze in my spot.Devon squinted up at him. “Do I… do I know you? ”I was bewildered because Devon had just said before that they were brothers. And now, he's pretending like he doesn't know him. What the hell is going on?“Oh, you know me,” he said, tilting his head “You just don’t want to remember.”I took a shaky step forward. “Der

  • My Devil Ex-husband's Obsession    Love is hidden

Taylor's pov FLASHBACK I didn’t sleep the entire time Devon was outside. I told myself it was because I was still angry at him, but honestly, I couldn’t relax. Something about him storming out had bothered me more than I wanted to admit. So I went outside too, mostly to get some air and remind myself that I still had to push through for my daughter.By the time I was in the hallway , a hand brushed my shoulder and I nearly screamed. I turned sharply to face the person. It was the waiter.Except the way he stood there made me kind of feel safe. “What are you staring at?” I asked, folding my arms because I didn’t feel like being the one caught off guard. He chuckled softly. “You look like you saw a ghost.”“Maybe because you keep creeping around corners like one.” I said and then a smirk crept up my lips. Finally! He stepped closer, leaned in and whispered so low I barely heard it. “Relax. It’s me.”I grabbed him by the collar and pulled him into the shadows behind the decorative p

  • My Devil Ex-husband's Obsession    You thought wrong.

Taylor's pov Devon slammed the door on his way out like the dramatic, overgrown child he was. The walls trembled a little, and honestly, I hoped the door fell on his head. Not enough to kill him. Just enough to make him reconsider his entire personality.I didn't know why I thought like this. I must be a witch. I folded my arms and stared at the door.“He really left to get air,” I muttered. “Air. Like the oxygen in here was different from the oxygen outside.”I scoffed and rolled my eyes. “Coward. Big, tall, stupid coward.”I said it louder this time, partly because it made me feel good and partly because he wasn’t here to annoy me back. My chest felt lighter. It was nice insulting him without interruption. Wonderful!I wandered toward the bathroom, deciding a long hot shower would wash off the stress of the day. And maybe wash off Devon too. If only! The bathroom was gorgeous. Spa-like with warm yellow lights and candles in the room that made my nose bless me. I stepped inside th
