The sharp cries of my son echoed through the hospital room, each word cutting into me like glass.

"You’re a bad person! You ruined everything! We were happy before you came!"

The room had gone eerily silent, save for Jordan’s sobs. The walls of the sterile white hospital seemed to close in on me, suffocating me. My nails dug into my palm as I fought to control my trembling breath.

Then, a sharp shuffle of footsteps.

The nurse rushed in, looking bewildered. Her gaze darted between Jordan’s tear-streaked face and my frozen stance at the door. "What’s going on here?" she asked, her voice laced with concern.

Jordan sniffled, his small hands balling into fists as he wiped at his face. "She—" he hiccuped, pointing an accusing finger at me. "She’s ruining everything! Daddy and Aunt Joey and I are happy together. She’s the bad one!"

The nurse’s lips parted slightly, her brows knitting together. From where she stood, it must have looked like I was the intruder, forcing my way into a peaceful f

The question lingered in the air like a spark caught in the wind."Do you love me?"Logan’s voice was quiet, but not uncertain. It held weight—like he’d been carrying it for a long time, waiting for the right moment to let it go. His eyes searched mine in the soft twilight, that vulnerable ocean blue of his turning darker with something deeper, something raw.I felt my heart trip. My chest tightened with the rush of everything I hadn’t said. The way he looked at me, like I was something fragile and fierce all at once, something he was terrified to lose.“I…” My voice faltered. His hand didn’t tremble when he reached up to brush a strand of hair from my face. “You don’t have to say it if you don’t mean it.”“That’s the thing, Logan. I do mean it. I just—I want to say it right.”He blinked, and I saw it there—the hesitation he never wore in front of anyone else. With the world, Logan was all steel and steadiness. But with me, he let himself be soft. Open. Human. So I took a breath and c

The salty breeze tickled my skin as the waves rolled gently onto the shore, the sound of the sea steady and soothing. The golden sand was warm beneath my feet, and the sunlight shimmered off the turquoise water like a thousand tiny diamonds.Lily splashed around near the shoreline, her little pink swimsuit glittering under the sun. Her swim coach, Julie, stayed close by, guiding her movements while Lily giggled and kicked with determination. She looked so happy and confident, splashing and laughing, her goggles slightly crooked but her smile wide. Every now and then, she’d turn around and wave excitedly toward us.I stood ankle-deep in the water, beside Logan.I wore a navy-blue swimsuit—simple but flattering—and my hair was tied up in a messy knot to keep it off my neck. My skin was cool where the ocean had kissed it. Logan stood shirtless in black swim trunks, droplets of seawater clinging to his toned chest and shoulders. He looked relaxed, but there was a quietness in his eyes, a

Author's POV:The lounge of the private restaurant shimmered with low golden lights, elegant yet intimate. A quiet classical piece played in the background as waiters moved about like shadows, setting glasses and lighting candles on each table.Vivian leaned back in her seat, swirling the red wine in her glass. She wore a fitted navy blue dress, heels crossed beneath the table, and her expression was one of quiet satisfaction. Across from her, Susan took a slow sip of her drink, her lips curled into a smug smile.“To clever minds,” Vivian said, raising her glass.Susan laughed lightly and clinked hers against Vivian’s. “To clever women who know how to protect what’s theirs.”Vivian tilted her head. “I assume everything went according to plan?”Susan nodded. “The car was being serviced just a day before the accident. I had someone make a few small… adjustments.”“No one will trace it back to you?”Susan shook her head confidently. “It was just enough to cause brake failure. Nothing too

The sky outside was dull gray, and the wind pressed against the windows in low, eerie groans. Lily stood near the front door, her little hands clasped in front of her. She wore a red hoodie over her dress, her favorite bunny hairpin clipped into her curls.“Why did the accident happen so suddenly?” she asked, her voice so small it barely carried across the room.I looked at her from the kitchen, holding a towel in one hand. I didn't know how to answer.“I’m not sure, sweetheart,” I said gently. “Sometimes… bad things just happen.”She looked down, fidgeting with her sleeves. “Daddy hasn’t come home.”“He’s still at the hospital,” I said. “Watching over Grandma.”Lily's lower lip quivered. “Is she going to die?”“No,” I said firmly. “She’s strong. She’s just very tired right now. But we’ll keep hoping for her to get better, okay?”Lily nodded slowly, but I could see the fear in her eyes. I wanted to distract her, to keep her mind from wandering into those dark places where kids imagine

The night was quiet as I sat beside Lily’s bed.Her chest rose and fell gently, her arms wrapped around her favorite stuffed bunny. The light from the hallway spilled softly across her cheek, casting warm shadows across her delicate features. My heart ached. I kept seeing the water—the pool, her tiny figure slipping beneath the surface. The chaos. The shouting. The sting on my cheek where Susan had slapped me. The looks from strangers.I reached out, brushing Lily’s hair back from her forehead. “I’m so sorry, baby,” I whispered. “I brought you into this mess.”Behind me, the door opened quietly.Logan stepped into the room, his suit jacket folded neatly over his arm. His shirt was wrinkled, the sleeves pushed up. His eyes looked tired but calm. He didn’t say anything at first. He just moved to the rocking chair beside me and sat down slowly.“She’s okay,” he said gently.

“Lily!” someone shouted.Logan’s voice broke through the noise like thunder.I turned, heart in my throat, and saw her—tiny, helpless—sinking under the water in the pool at the edge of the ballroom.“Lily!” I screamed.Logan ran like lightning, his jacket flying behind him. He jumped in without a second thought. Water splashed everywhere.I followed, stumbling in my heels, hands shaking. Everything else faded—the music, the people, even the shame from earlier.“Move!” I shouted, pushing past people. “Get out of the way!”Logan lifted Lily out of the water. Her little arms clung to his neck. She was coughing, crying. Wet and scared.“She’s okay,” Logan whispered, holding her tightly. “She’s breathing.”“Oh, thank God,” I gasped, dropping to my knees beside them. I reached out, brushing Lily’s wet h
