Lucille’s POV
“No!” Brandon yelled. “No, Lucille… I will never let you go.” He shook his head, holding onto the edge of my bed. It was obvious he was struggling so hard not to touch me. If he did, he would definitely crush me. “By the time you get out of this bed, we are going back to the church to continue our marriage. I love you too much to let you go.” He whispered, his eyes red. He looked like he was going through a lot like a truck had run him over. He was wearing a suit, the same from their wedding. His hair was disheveled and he looked like had not gotten a shower in days. Anyone who saw him right now would think he loved me dearly but then, I could never forget how he kissed Vanessa in my past life and defended her. Out of them all, Brandon was the only one I caught in the act. Kent and Martin only presented me with divorce papers, saying they had found someone else, Vanessa. Brandon was the one who hurt me the most. I stayed married to him for five years and even had a child with him. I thought he knew better but that wasn't the case. Now, that he stood by my bedside, crying, I couldn't help but resent him. “What do you say, huh? Please, tell me you still want to be with me, right?” He asked. I went quiet, my breathing shallow. Taking in the same air as him was making me so uncomfortable and I wanted him to leave. “No, Brandon. I don’t want to be with you anymore.” My eyes were focused, and my voice firm. “Why?” He demanded. “I thought you loved me. Much more than you did with your ex-husbands. You promised to carry my baby.” “Yes, I did.” I didn't deny it. But that was when I was in the darkness. “So, what changed? What did I do to deserve this?” He asked. His question made me take a deep breath, my heart skipping a beat. He had asked whether I still loved him or not. He had not done anything wrong to me in this current life, so I had no tangible reason to give him. “I don’t love you anymore, Brandon. You should move on with your life.” I said, closing my eyes. I wasn't going to entertain any more nonsense from him. With my eyes closed, all I could hear was Brandon’s heavy breathing. The hospital room turned silent and the next thing I heard was Brandon’s receding footsteps. The door opened and closed and the silence was restored again. My eyes opened slowly, seeing that Brandon was gone. I let out a relieved sigh, thankful that he had left me alone. I made a mental note to contact a lawyer to send him the divorce papers. In this new life gained, I would make sure not to entertain any form of rubbish from anyone. The troubles I went through in my past life would be dealt a thousandfold to those who hurt me. Different thoughts roamed through my head. How I was going to take revenge. Where would I start from exactly? I knew I had nowhere to go. At this point in my past life, I had moved in with Brandon before our marriage and all my belongings were in his mansion. I couldn't go back there even to take my things without any form of backbone. I realized that one thing I needed to do, was to go back to where I came from. I was going to go back to my roots. Just at that moment, there was a knock on the door and the nurse from earlier walked in, smiling. “How do you feel now?” She smiled. “I'm fine.” I nodded at her. “When will I be discharged from the hospital?” “What? Are you in a hurry to leave us?” She asked, wiggling her brows. “You want to go back to your husband? You missed him so much, don’t you?” She poked my hand, playfully. “My husband?” I frowned. “Yeah… the man that walked out of here a while ago. I thought those two men who brought you in were your suitors. Turned out you have a husband. He was sorry that he didn't get to you earlier during your accident. Aww, you must feel so lucky to have so many men around you…” “Your husband asked us to take care of you until he gets back…” The nurse's words flowed in and out of my ears. But my heart was churning with displeasure, the one who she called my husband was Brandon. I thought he finally left me alone but then I thought wrong. My breath hitched painfully at the thought that I might have to face Brandon again on this hospital bed. I didn't have the strength to keep going back and forth with him. “Is he coming back tomorrow? Did he tell you that?” I asked, my eyes searching the nurse’s face. “Do you miss him that much?” She teased, wiggling her brows at me. I was floored and didn't know what else to say. If only she knew how much I hated him. “No… I... Just.” I shook my head, not bothering to explain myself to her. She was completely enthralled by the idea of Brandon. “Can I get a phone?” I asked. “I don’t know where mine is.” “Do you want to call your husband?” The nurse asked. “Yes.” I didn't even bother to counter her this time. Immediately, she took out her phone and handed it to me. “You can take as much time as you want. You will discharged in two days and you can spend as much time with your husband.” She said. “I will leave you for some time then.” The nurse walled out of the room, plunging it into silence. I sighed, I could finally take in a breath of fresh air and not hear about Brandon. I stared at the phone in my hands, rethinking my next step. It would be the start of everything but I was quite scared to take the move. What if they don’t accept me again? It had been a long time since I had been away from them. I was sure they didn't even know I had married three times. With the phone in hand, I stood up from the bed and limped toward the room’s window. It was nighttime, with a star-studded sky. I wished I could be as bright as the night sky but I was just a desolate blank sheet. Maybe it was time to start rewriting my story. It was time to change that blank sheet into a colorful drawing that would wow everyone. With a determined look on my face, I punched in the numbers I had not dialed in a long while. It was still surprising that I still knew his phone number. Of course, I could never forget it. He made me memorize it when I was a little kid and always told me to call him when I was in trouble. That person was my father and at this point, I decided I wanted to go back to my family. The phone rang a few times. And it went straight into voicemail. “What? Did he change his number?” I whispered to myself, panic surged within me. My father would always pick up on the first ring, no matter who was calling. I didn't give up, I dialed it again and it rang. On the second ring, the call connected, and I felt so nervous, that my body shook slightly. “Hello, is this Lucian King?” I spoke into the phone, trying to steady myself. “Who is this?” The person on the other end asked, sounding confused. The voice didn't even belong to my father, it was my brother’s. I held my mouth, as small cries and sobs leaked through. I couldn't help the emotions that overwhelmed me. I had not heard my brother’s voice in years and he was already sounding like a grown man. “Who is this? If you are not going to speak up, I will have to end the call.” He said, impatiently. He was still as impatient as ever. But then knowing he would do as he said, I quickly spoke up, “It's me, Lucille, your sister.” my voice was shaky. “I want to speak to father.” The call went silent. Only heavy breathing from my end and his end could be heard. He was definitely in shock that I was calling after all these years. Now, it was left to him to hang up or let me speak to my father. “Stay on the call, I will go get him.”Lucille’s POV“What did he say to you?” I asked, nervously shifting in the car passenger seat while Martin held the wheel with a hardened gaze. His brows were furrowed, worry etched in his eyes, a rare expression to see on his face. After Lucas had talked to Martin privately, they both came back looking disgruntled and even Father couldn't fathom what went wrong. The dinner went stale and we decided to leave earlier than we should have. I knew my brother must have done something vile again. But Martin’s silence was killing me. “If you don’t want to say something then I am going to confront that bastard, myself!” I declared, seething. My hand found the door knob and I opened the door harshly. However, he was quick to stop me, “No, Lucille. Wait!” The wary look in his eyes caused me to draw back, to realize this was much more. “I don’t want you being before him. Until the moment we bring him down, you will never go before him.” Martin’s voice was hard with a hint of warning. But h
Lucille’s POVA few seconds passed, and Martin didn't say a word. His hungry gaze stared down at me, different things I couldn't fathom going on in his mind. For a moment, I thought he didn't want it anymore, but his gaze said otherwise. “Martin–”My mouth clamped shut when he gathered my hands in his and led me toward the bed. Slowly, he sat down, bringing me over on his thighs. “I want to take you slowly, cherish you...” He whispered a reminder that he wanted to be gentle with me. Not wild or crazy. It was our first time in years and I understood perfectly. “Do as you wish…”As my words bounced through the room, he held me tighter, his fingers caressed the side of my waist making me squirm and move deeper into his arms. “Kiss me…” His whisper compelled me to sit straight and as I found his lips, a spark flew through my body. I succumbed, his lip in mine and mine in his. The warmth that spread over mine moved me to go deeper, tasting the sweetness he had to offer. It was slow, a
Lucille’s POVI couldn't help the blush that spread across my face as I let Martin sniff me and kiss my neck continuously. Deep down, I was also contemplating my answer to his question. “I need an answer, wifey…” He groaned, embracing me even tighter. “Wifey?” I chuckled, my blush reddening the more. “What? You like it when I call you that?” He smirked, looking at me with a proud gaze and I nodded immediately. “I just can’t believe we are back together, so fast and so suddenly…” I said, with a small tone filled with happiness. I imagined how much joy and happy family I lost in my past life because my brother and former friend decided to sabotage me. Maybe this was why I was given another chance at life. The universe wanted me to be happy again. “Let’s go home, Martin.” I chuckled. “We can have the fun we need back at home, uninterrupted.”“Alright.” He nodded. “Let’s pack up first.”He let go of me after a long minute of several kisses, all over my face and body. I was a laughin
Lucille’s POVI halted, taking a deep breath to calm myself. Martin also helped me by squeezing my hand, rendering me the courage I needed. “Lucas…” I smiled, my eyes going round and I left Martin’s side and jumped straight into his arms. I embraced him even though he never expected me to do that. I never knew that I could pull off such a fake smile and fake excitement. I guessed desperate times called for desperate measures. “You left with father without a word,” I whined, looking at him with a displeased gaze. “Are you upset?” He asked, his face morphed with confusion.“Of course! How do you feel if you wake up one morning and your family is nowhere to be seen?” I snickered, still putting on a wronged expression. I took a step away from him and folded my hands on my chest. “You have to apologize to me!” I demanded. He raised his brows, looking from me to Martin and then back to me. “Is that why you got together with him? I thought I warned you against him?” Lucas asked, not c
Lucille’s POVI went silent, surprised that he would outrightly ask me to divorce Martin. He looked at me, sternly and for the first time in a long while, I was subdued of my father’s gaze. I could oppose or accept his command because he kept my gaze locked. Until my savior came...“I am afraid, sir. We can’t get divorced.” Martin spoke up and then held me by my waist, squeezing it to bring me back to my senses. “Yes, father.” I nodded, quickly while blinking. “I can’t divorce Martin. He means a lot to me–”“Are you seriously going back to him who cheated on you and sent you away? Lucille, I didn't raise you to be this low!” Lucian King banged his fists on the table, startling me and I flinched. However, Martin didn't move. He was steady and calm as always and he intervened. “Are you against our marriage because I am a member of the Luther family, or is it because you think I cheated on Lucille?” Martin asked. My father had to pick a side.“Both.” He groaned. “How could I let my d
Lucille’s POV“My father?” I gasped, shooting up to my feet. Martin willingly let go of me this time, and I grabbed my phone from Kent. Of course, there were a total of 50 missed calls from my father and also Lucas. They never called my phone this much in my entire life. “They must have seen the news...” Kent spoke up as I stared at my phone, scrolling through the messages. They were both demanding my location and I wondered if they were back home. In the background, Kent had put on the large television in the bedroom and the voice of the news anchor echoed in my ears. “NEW CHAIRMAN OF LUTH GROUP, MARTIN LUTHER WITH HIS WIFE, LUCILLE KING WERE INTRODUCED TO THE PUBLIC AND THE SHAREHOLDERS LAST NIGHT…”“Tone it down…my father is calling again…” I waved my hand, and then placed it on my chest. My heart beat rapidly as I watched the phone ring. What would my father say? Would he be disappointed in me? “You don’t have to be scared.” Kent held my waist and slowly pulled me to himsel
