Chapter 2

Author: Quinn Cherie
I could not hold back from saying sardonically, “Everyone knows what’s going on. They know that they can’t compare to Miss Cillian, who is such an important member of the staff. There’s nothing to explain.”

Magnus roared in a rage, “This is an order, Rhiannon. Do it immediately!”

In the face of Magnus’ anger, I coolly recorded a video.

It showed me putting a contract worth 300 million dollars at the mouth of the shredding machine.

“Either you fire Alyssa Cillian or lose out on this investment. Make your choice!”

Half an hour later, I saw Alyssa’s dismissal letter in the company’s group chat.

I immediately completed the contract signing. “Magnus, you’d better remember where my boundaries lie. Don’t think that you’re my only option! If this happens again, you won’t like what comes next!”

Magnus did not respond for a long time.

I suppose that he was busy trying to win back his precious little Alyssa. He did not even consider how much pain I felt at this.

We had been dating for eight years. I built this company with him from nothing. I had given my best years to him and the company.

Before this incident, I thought that getting this 300-million-dollar investment and helping the company get listed would be the push to help us cross the finishing line to reach marriage.

After all, he had been the one to ask my parents for their blessing for our wedding, back when we graduated. However, my parents refused as Magnus had been poor.

At present, he was the owner of a company that was ready to be listed. He had long been able to impress my parents and get their blessing to marry me.

Yet, whenever I mentioned getting married, Magnus found all sorts of excuses to delay it.

In the past, I thought that he was concerned about the company getting listed since we were so close. It was only later that I slowly understood that his heart had been split in two. The other half of his heart belonged to a woman he had barely known for half a year.

I thought that Magnus was smart enough to heed my warning and take back the seaside villa he had given Alyssa.

However, when I got to work the next day, I bumped into the real estate agent at the reception. He was there to sign the purchase contract.

Since he did not have an appointment, the agent was stopped at the reception.

When I passed by, the receptionist said, “Rhi, he’s here to see Mr. Baird. He says Mr. Baird bought a villa, and he’s here to get the contract signed.”

I took the drafted contract from the agent and saw that the value of the villa was 200 million dollars.

A vein pulsed at my temple. It seemed they had agreed on this price for the villa yesterday at 5 p.m.

Sensing that something was amiss, I quickly tracked the 300 million dollars from the investment contract.

In the relevant account, I found only 100 million dollars left.

I had toiled for three months and given speeches until my throat nearly went hoarse to get this investment contract, but Magnus had taken barely a second to give that money to Alyssa.

Rage burned within me as I sped straight to the president’s office.

When I opened the door, I saw the floor littered with discarded clothes.

Magnus looked ecstatic. His legs were wide open, as a supposedly fired Alyssa knelt between them.

I lost all rationality and rushed forward to pull the two apart.

“I want an explanation for this, Magnus!”

Magnus was taken completely by surprise. He did not even remember to put his pants on as he stood.

He said, “Don’t get the wrong idea, Rhiannon. I got a graze yesterday when I was out horseback riding. Alyssa was only applying some medication for me!”

I scoffed and said, “Do you think I’m a fool or do you think I’m blind? You should get her to clean her mouth before you lie to me!”

Alyssa’s face was crimson as she scrabbled for her clothes to flee the scene. “I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have come here! I’m leaving now!”

Her clothes were still a mess when she rushed out. The whole company would know that Magnus had cheated on me before lunch.

Gabriel came with me as I was escorted safely to the police station to give my statement. The police said that Magnus had committed a huge crime, so he was definitely going to prison. The next day, Gabriel bought out the Baird Group. In a short two days, the Baird Group disappeared from the city. Magnus was sentenced to five years in prison, and Ina became greatly worried and dejected. She came to see me at the company many times and hoped that I would drop the charges and let things go. “I only have one son! Have mercy, Rhiannon. Let Magnus out!”I was numb as I watched her sob. “Ina, Magnus wanted to kill me. I can’t just let him go.”Seeing that I was not going to relent, Ina pointed and cursed at me. She called me heartless and accused me of cheating on Magnus. She tried to humiliate me in front of passersby. But everyone knew what Magnus had done, so they did not believe the ravings of an old, arrogant woman. I told the security guards to escort Ina away. Before

“I’m giving you one last chance, Magnus. Let me go and we’ll both be even.”Magnus’ hand slid down. It would soon reach between my legs. Magnus let out a laugh. “We’ll be even? How would we ever be even? I’ve lost my company, my money, and now, my wife!”I did my best to squeeze my legs shut, but I could not overpower him. Magnus pulled the camera closer and enjoyed my desperation.“How many times have I gone along with you? For you, I was willing to send Alyssa away and swear to be loyal to you forever. But you’re so heartless that you wouldn’t even give me a chance!“That awful Gabriel ruined the Baird Group just to show that he’s loyal to you. He bought out all other snobby people. Well then, let’s both go to hell together!”With a loud rip, Magnus ripped apart the last piece of fabric covering me. I felt helpless as tears streamed down my face. Just as I thought that I would not survive this, the warehouse door flung open. “Put down your weapon, or I’ll shoot!”Many g

Gabriel gestured to the bodyguards behind him, and they escorted Magnus away. I let out a breath. I was about to get out of the car to thank Gabriel when he opened the door and got in.Confused, I watched as he leaned toward me. I held my breath and anxiously grabbed his arm. He stopped just two inches away from me and chuckled. “How will you thank me for getting rid of your ex for you, Miss Flynn?”Those directly outside could see how close we were. Magnus became even more outraged. “It’s no wonder you want to break up, Rhiannon! You’ve seduced TR Group’s president! And here I thought you were a good woman! You’re just as dirty as the rest of them!”His words pierced straight into my heart. It seemed that only cruel words were left of our love. I closed my eyes. Before my tears could fall, Gabriel put his hands over my ears.Gabriel looked at me and said, “You’re a great person, Rhiannon. He’s not worthy of you.”He said it so sincerely that I believed it. After tha

“What can Alyssa even do for you? I think she’s just here to make trouble! You’re a fool to do this to Rhiannon!”Panicked, Magnus grabbed my shoulder. At this point, he finally accepted reality. “Do you really want to break up? Rhiannon, we’ve been together for eight years! There’s no way another man would want you now! We’re practically married after being together for eight years! You should calm down and think about this. If you hate Alyssa so much, I’ll send her abroad. You’ll never have to see her again!”His words disgusted me. “How do you expect me to forgive you, Magnus? You created fake photos of me and put them in a group chat! So many people cursed and laughed at me! Did you even consider the relationship we had when you did that?”At that point, I suddenly thought of the document in my bag. I took it out and threw it in his face. “I had someone track the IP address. I now have enough proof that you were the one behind it. Next week, I expect to see a million dolla

Magnus looked panicked. He suddenly fell to his knees before me.“There’s something else I need your help with, Rhi!”The way he was debasing himself and begging so piteously attracted the attention of passersby. Someone brought out their phone to start recording. I was worried that things would escalate, so I quickly helped Magnus up. “Just spit it out!”Magnus finally smiled. He used that opportunity to grab my hand. “I knew you still had feelings for me, Rhi!”I did not respond. I could not be bothered to argue with him. “My mom saw the news and had a heart attack. I’ve been taking care of her at the hospital for the past few days.”He wiped his tears away pitifully. “She’s in bad shape and wants to see you. Can you help me out?”Magnus lost his father when he was young, and his mother raised him alone. I was not a fan of his mother’s blunt and unrefined way of carrying herself. But when it came down to it, she was worthy of some sympathy. In a moment of weakness, I sa

The news of TR Group pulling its investment from the Baird Group spread quickly on the internet. Once they got the news, the Baird Group’s other partner companies quickly called them. “What? Mr. Wendell is canceling our partnership next quarter, too?”Magnus trembled as he hung up. He stumbled and nearly lost his balance. Then, he looked at me viciously. “Look at what you’ve done, Rhiannon!”It was not just this news that blew up online. The news of my being cheated on after eight years with Magnus also ignited the sympathy of netizens. Magnus became known as a dirty cheat. The image of the company, and of Magnus, was completely ruined. Thus, it was no surprise that Magnus was having a breakdown.I ignored Magnus’ furious gaze and let the bodyguards escort me into a lounge. Soon after, the lounge door opened, and Gabriel came in. “That was quite a show.”He applauded as he walked to sit beside me. He looked bemused.I calmly drank some tea before looking up at him. I a
