Chapter 3

Penulis: Serein M
My father told me Julian's father paid a massive price to get this marriage approved.

If he found out his precious son ruined the deal, it would be a great show.

Thinking of that, I felt a lot better. I didn't care about these idiots anymore.

I spun on my heel to leave. But Victoria wouldn't let it go.

Backed by Julian's blind protection, she grabbed my arm and barked.

"Don't even think about running, thief! You stole my cloak and pushed me. We're not done!"

I turned around. My eyes were calm.

"What do you want?"

She thought I was scared. She took the chance to swipe at my face.

"I'm going to ruin your face, bitch! Let's see what man will ever look at you again!"

I easily caught her wrist. Then I punched her hard in the chest.

She stumbled back. She was stunned. She ground her teeth and screamed.

"You bitch, how dare you—"

I kept my grip on her wrist and shoved her again. "Happy now?" I asked coldly.

Victoria stumbled back with tears in her eyes. She hid behind Julian.

"Lord Julian, you have to help me!"

Julian wrapped his arms around her possessively. His voice was icy. He gave me a warning.

"Anyone who touches what's mine doesn't live to see tomorrow."

He waved at his blood guards to take me.

I moved first. I teleported and kicked one down. Sadly, I was outnumbered.

They overpowered me quickly. They pinned me to the floor, forcing me to kneel at his boots.

He smiled at Victoria.

"Do whatever you want, Victoria. I've got your back, no matter what."

That gave her all the confidence in the world.

She walked up to me and slapped me twice, hard.

A burning sting spread across my cheeks.

"Weren't you acting tough just now, bitch?" she snarled. "Where did all that fire go?"

As if that wasn't enough, she snatched my cooler box. She smashed my sun-resistance potion on the floor. It took me a year to make that.

I clutched my aching stomach and glared at them both.

"Mark my words. I will never let either of you get away with this!"

Victoria's laugh grew crueler.

"This is Lord Julian's territory. You're just a stray. What can you do to me? Let me show you what happens when you cross me."

She pulled a silver dagger from her boot. She waved it in front of me. The blade caught the light.

Then, she grabbed my hair and yanked my head back. She viciously stabbed the dagger into my pale arm.

The silver poison burned my skin instantly. It sizzled.

"Didn't you love that cloak?" she spat. "Let's see if you still have the face to wear it once I carve you up!"

The crowd gasped.

For a vampire, this was the ultimate humiliation. A permanent scar that barely healed.

Victoria gripped the dagger tighter. Drops of smoking black blood hit the floor.

Panic rose in my chest. I knew I had to beg.

"I was wrong. Take the cloak. I shouldn't have fought you for it. Please, don't do this!"

Swallowing my pride was the best choice. Keeping my face safe was the priority.

But she ignored my pleas.

She waved the dagger, screaming like a maniac.

"Now you want to beg? Too late! I'm going to carve the word 'Whore' into your face!"

Humiliation and fear made me scream.

Julian stood by with his arms crossed, watching coldly.

I gritted my teeth and warned him.

"You have no idea who I am, Julian! You're going to regret letting her do this!"

He just shrugged.

"Who could you be? You're just a tool your family used to buy a blood pact."

A sadistic thrill flashed in Victoria's eyes.

"Then I have every reason to ruin you. Let's see if you still dream of being a Lord's wife!"

"No—"

Just then, my phone rang.

I scrambled for it, but Victoria snatched it and answered.

My father's voice came through.

"Hey, Elara. Picked a cloak yet?"

I screamed for help.

"Father, help me! I'm under attack! She's trying to ruin my face!"

His voice tightened instantly.

"What... Who is touching you?"

Victoria spoke into the phone, totally fearless and smug.

"Your daughter is a savage. You're welcome. I'm just teaching her a lesson for you."

My father's voice boiled with absolute fury.

"I don't care who you think you are. Let my daughter go right now! If you make me come down there, I'll make you all pay!"

"Come and try it," she mocked. "Who knows, maybe I'll give you a free scar too!"

She laughed wildly. Then she smashed the phone on the floor.

She kept using the blunt edge of the dagger to torture me.

Every breath hurt. I curled up, trying to ease the pain.

For the first time in my life, time felt like a century.

Ten minutes later, nearly a hundred Night Guards appeared. They locked down the whole street.

My father melted from the shadows and materialized in the center of the room.

His crushing Ancient aura made everyone tremble.

"Now, where is the idiot who touched my daughter?"

Only Julian and Victoria's pathetic, grating sobs echoed in the hall. After a long while, I finally put my glass down. The sharp clink of crystal against wood cut through the air. They instantly went quiet. They stared at me with terrified eyes. But beneath the fear, there was desperate hope. I gave a faint smile, but my voice held no warmth. "If my father hadn't shown up in time that day, would either of you have let me go?" The question hit them like a slap to the face. They froze. The color drained from their faces. Their mouths hung open, but no words came out. "Victoria," I turned my eyes to the woman who once treated me like dirt under her shoe. "Wasn't it your dream to be a Lord's wife?" She nodded uncontrollably. A delusional spark of hope still flickered in her eyes. "And you, Julian." I shifted my focus to him. My tone was mocking. "You defied your fiancé for her. You let her attack me, just to spoil her. You must really love her, right?" "I don't! I was just..." h

Kaelen and I were sipping warm blood-wine in the council hall at Nightshade Manor. The air was thick with suffocating tension. Aldous stood to the side, frozen like a statue. Every second was agonizing. Finally, footsteps broke the dead silence. Two Night Guards walked in. They dragged Julian and Victoria out. They had been tortured by the UV lights so badly they were charred and barely looked human. The moment Aldous saw his son, a brief flash of heartbreak crossed his face. But it was quickly replaced by cold fury and terror. He didn't rush forward to help him. Instead, he marched over, grabbed Julian by the back of the neck, and forced his head down toward me. "You bastard," he gritted his teeth. "Apologize!" Then, loud slaps echoed through the hall as he hit Julian across the face, over and over again. This wasn't a father disciplining his son. It was a brutal execution of punishment. "Speak! Apologize to Lady Elara right now!" he roared. Julian was completely broken.

After the two Clan leaders left, the hall was quiet again. I was about to pick up my book when another guard walked in. He looked a bit uneasy. "Lady Elara, the manager from the salon is outside. He says he's here to confess his sins. He's begging to see you..." I blinked, remembering that snobby manager. Kaelen looked at me and gave a mocking sneer. "Let him in. I'd love to hear what he has to 'confess'." A moment later, the manager stumbled in. He practically crawled across the floor. The second he reached me, he dropped to his knees and started bawling. "Forgive me, Lady Elara! I was blind! I didn't recognize who you were! Please, have mercy—spare my pathetic life!" He fumbled in his coat and pulled out a heavy bag. He held it up high with both hands. "This is everything I've saved over the years. I'll give it all to you. Please forgive me!" Seeing him groveling and practically kissing my boots, it was hard to believe this was the same arrogant manager from the salon. Ka

A week later, I finished healing at the Blood Spring and went back to Nightshade Manor. By then, almost every vampire in the country had heard the story of a certain Lord who made an unthinkable mistake. He offended the beloved daughter of the Senate's Supreme Lord, the highest ruler of the dark world. For days, everyone was holding their breath, watching the situation, terrified of making a wrong move. Kaelen and I were working out of the council hall at the manor for now. Honestly, this place had become the temporary center of power for the whole nation. That afternoon, I was sitting by the window reading an ancient magic tome. A Night Guard appeared in a puff of black mist and bowed. "Supreme Lord, Lady Elara. The leaders of the Obsidian and Onyx Clans request an audience." I glanced at Kaelen, who was sitting at the head of the hall. He had his eyes closed, looking completely relaxed. He didn't even open his eyes. He drawled lazily, "Let them in." Soon, two powerful figu

Seeing the murder in Kaelen's eyes deepen by the second, my heart clenched. I was really scared he'd kill Julian right here. I quickly stepped forward and grabbed his arm. "Kaelen..." He seemed to hear the worry in my voice. He took a deep breath and forced his fury down. The sharp killing intent slowly faded. He turned and patted my hand to comfort me. Then he shot an icy glare at the two people on the floor. He flicked his wrist. The Night Guards stepped up and dragged Julian and Victoria out like thrashing ragdolls. "Throw them in the UV Cell," Kaelen gave an absolute order. Hearing that name, Julian started thrashing wildly. The UV Cell was where the Senate punished the worst criminals. It was a cage made entirely of artificial UV lights. It burned a prisoner's skin and soul endlessly. Even the strongest vampires would go insane. Legend had it that no vampire ever lasted three days in there without losing their mind. "No... No!" Julian screamed. For the first time, tru

I'm no saint. After what Victoria did to me today, I was definitely not letting her walk away unscathed. My father looked at me. "Do it, Elara. Show them nobody messes with our family." My eyes were locked on Victoria. I picked up the dagger she used to stab me and walked toward her slowly. She was shaking all over. She stuttered, "If you touch me, the Lord will never let you go..." I didn't want to hear her garbage. I grabbed her by the hair. While she screamed in terror, I carved a permanent, jagged cross right into her face. She shrieked. "My face!" I leaned in and whispered in her ear. "Didn't you want to ruin my face? Make sure no man ever looked at me again?" Victoria's eyes widened. All the color drained from her face. She tried to crawl backward in terror. I grabbed the box with the cloak. I opened it slowly right in front of her. The golden sunlight cloak sparkled under the lights. It was a brutal contrast to her messy, pathetic state. Then, I stayed perfectly ca
