Eveline

She didn’t hit the ground.

The darkness swept over her for a few seconds — maybe a minute — but something warm and firm caught her before she could fall.

Two things, actually. One wrapped around her waist; the other cradled her head, easing her down onto something solid.

She blinked slowly as the wooziness lifted.

The scent hit her first. It was unfamiliar and unmistakable. It belonged to Lucien.

Her eyes widened as she wrenched herself away, stumbling back a step. It wasn’t her ima

The suspense in this scene was incredible. The moment Lucien spotted Gerald and started connecting the dots, I could feel the tension building with every line. It really felt like a major secret was about to be uncovered.

  • My Fiancé’s Uncle is Obsessed With Me   Chapter Hundred and Nineteen: Family Troubles

EvelineJonah walked in through the front door with his coat draped over one arm. He looked tired, but the second his eyes landed on Peter, his whole body went stiff and even the warmth in the room vanished.Peter stopped walking, the polite smile he had worn all evening disappeared and was instantly replaced by something guarded.Eveline looked between them, her heart beginning to thud. They stared at each other like two men who had already fought a war and were waiting for someone to fire the first shot of the next one."What is he doing here?" Jonah asked, his voice dangerously low."Jonah," Eveline said, stepping forward and trying to keep her voice even. "Peter came over for dinner. I invited him."Jonah didn't look at her. His glare stayed fixed on Peter. "He needs to leave.""Dad, stop," she said, irritation already rising in her throat. "He's my brother. I wanted him here.""He is not welcome in this house," Jonah said, stepping further into the entryway, his eyes hard. "He is

Eveline “Hey—” Eveline opened the door, breathing a little heavily. Some of the anxiety she felt melted away when she saw the wrapped gift basket in Peter’s hand. “You didn’t bring the champagne?”Peter smiled. “I told you—I’m only going to drink in your presence, when you can enjoy what a vintage bottle tastes like. Oh,” he waved his hand, laughing like he made a mistake, “forgive me. I forgot that your fiancé owns a fully stocked bar.”“And this house—” he glanced around, whistling under his breath in approval, “it is incredible. I’d like to know who designed it for him, because I’m planning on building my home very soon.”“You don’t have a house that’s yours, yet?” Eveline questioned, her brows slightly raised. She’d have expected—given his job and everything she’d learned about him so far, that her brother was living lavishly. Peter chuckled awkwardly, a hand brushing the back of his neck. “It’s a long story.”She wanted to hear it. But she didn’t want to pry. “Come on,” she sa

Lucien “We need to talk.”He’d taken the day off, because Jonah wanted to visit some friends at the golf club. And Lucien felt it would be a good place to get the other man to open up, without him feeling like he was being ambushed. They’d been playing for hours—Jonah was tired and since his doctor; who was also his son-in-law, hadn't cleared him for rigorous physical activity under the scorching sun, he had to go sit down. It was the opening Lucien had been waiting for all morning. “I know that it’s not really my place to ask,” he started, carefully, “but Eveline has been excited about connecting with her brother. But you have reservations. I’ve been hesitating to ask, because I don’t want to overstep my boundaries, but if you’re not going to tell her what it is, then I thought you might want to share it with me.”“Because,” Lucien added gently, as Jonah’s mouth flattened into an expression that wasn’t pleased, “we both care about her. We want her to be happy. To be safe. If ther

The restaurant was tastefully furnished, but it was obvious, from the way they greeted Peter, that he was a regular there. They led them to the best table in the building, which already had a bottle waiting. “Could you change that with something non-alcoholic?” He asked. “It’s fine,” Eveline waved her hand. “I don’t have to drink. I can just eat.”“Nonsense,” he scoffed lightly. “I’m not going to let you feel like you’re all alone. If you can’t drink, then I don’t plan on doing the same. In fact,” he tapped his chin, “I think champagne is a bad idea for dinner. I’ll think about something that we can all enjoy. Especially you.”Eveline chuckled, shaking her head. “You don’t have to, really. It doesn’t bother me.”But in true Peter’s fashion, he’d already concluded the topic and was now pulling out a chair for her to sit. He wasn’t the kind to go back and forth; she could tell by now. Peter sat himself. Then he brought out his phone, scrolled for a minute, and handed it to her. “The

EvelineEveline fumbled for a response to Peter’s question. She didn’t know if he was asking because he wanted to know how much she’d overheard—or he was making conversation. “I—” she laughed, waving her hand around and trying to act normal. “I just showed up. Almost the same time your secretary did, actually.”Heavens, when did she become so paranoid? Maybe because her parents were killed, instead of dying from an accident like she thought, and everything else that she built her life on crumbled in a matter of months? It was her second nature to doubt everything, but she was taking a conversation she overheard into a different context…when it could mean anything. Maybe he was talking about a deal? A competitor that he wanted to stay ahead of and something he needed to find out from them. She wasn’t in the cutthroat corporate world, but she had an idea of how it worked. Peter broke into a smile. “You should’ve called!” He pulled her into a hug. “I told you, I can have someone co

  • My Fiancé’s Uncle is Obsessed With Me   Chapter Hundred and Fourteen: What Are They Hiding?

Lucien Lucien shoved the door open without knocking and strode into Vanbeek's office. Marcus was mid-call on his laptop. He lifted one finger, then flicked it toward the chair across from him. Lucien pulled out a chair and sat down. His fingers drummed a lazy rhythm against the edge of the desk as he waited for the call to end. A minute later, Marcus closed the laptop with a soft click and nudged it aside. He leaned back, folded his arms, and offered a smile so smooth it looked rehearsed. "Dr. Roswood. What brings you to my office this morning?" Lucien reached into the pocket of his white coat and drew out a folded envelope. He set it on the desk and slid it halfway across with two fingers, his eyes never leaving Marcus's face His voice came out low and even. "Cut the shit, Marcus. Stop playing games. I know you're behind the text I got two days ago." Marcus tilted his head, brows knitting in practiced confusion. His eyes dropped to the envelope, then lifted again. "What text

“Miss Storm.” Eveline stood rooted to the spot as he walked into the room, a polite smile on his lips. He walked over to her, stretching out his hand. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Dr. Roswood. The elevator doors opened with a soft chime, and Eveline rushed out, panting softly. Eveline pinched the card between her fingers as she spun around, hiding it behind her back. Eveline The key turned with a muffled click, a sound drowned by the one that stopped Eveline cold in the foyer. It wasn’t the television as she’d thought. It was a low, rhythmic wet sound, punctuated by a sharp guttural gasp she knew intimately. His gasp. Her overnight bag slipped from her numb
