Chapter 1

Meeting my skeptical gaze, my grandfather, Harold Reid, flushed crimson and stomped his foot in anger.

“Isn’t this an insult to my taste? That pitch-black scrap of metal could never be my car!”

He lovingly caressed the soft, adorable pink interior of his own car. The blush paint gleamed as it caught the light.

“Just look at this color. This is what truly suits me,” he said with pride and satisfaction.

My grandfather had always been fond of anything soft and pink.

His house was covered in pink wallpaper, and he slept in a four-poster bed draped with a sheer canopy. Even the curtains glimmered in a sparkling pink hue.

As for the Rimac Nevera he recently purchased, he treated it as a prized treasure. The moment he acquired it, he immediately had it repainted in blush pink.

This was meant to be the first time he showed it off, but before he even had the chance, someone deliberately cut us off.

“That jerk! Let’s see who he is!”

My grandfather angrily rolled up the sleeves of his Hello Kitty shirt and was about to get out of the car to argue.

As I was afraid his blood pressure might spike, I quickly stopped him. “Please stay here. I’ll go check it out.”

By then, the Rolls-Royce owner had already walked over and was aggressively banging on my car door while muttering curses.

“What are you dawdling for? Get out of the car!”

When I stepped out, he took one look at how young I was and sneered, as if it had been exactly what he expected.

“I knew it. Just another ignorant woman. If you can’t drive, don’t get behind the wheel. Do you even know what kind of car this is? And you still dared to crash into it?”

I suppressed my anger. My voice came out cold as ice. “I was driving normally. If you hadn’t cut in from the side and suddenly slammed on the brakes, I wouldn’t have hit you.”

Pointing at the surveillance camera above the underground garage passage, I continued, “Keep making false accusations, and I’ll call the police and pull the footage right now!”

“Go ahead. Call the police if you dare!”

The man suddenly raised his voice, ensuring the drivers stuck behind could hear. “You rear-ended me and still think you’re in the right? Perfect. This is a great time to show everyone what kind of reckless driver you are!”

As he spoke, he reached out to shove me. “You think I won’t lay a hand on you just because you’re a woman?”

Having grown up by my grandfather’s side, I was used to everyone treating both him and me with great respect.

Hence, I had never encountered anything like this before.

Shocked and furious, I blurted out, “Are you insane? You were the one who cut me off on purpose, and now you’re turning it around on me?”

By this point, a long line of cars had already formed behind us, and impatient honking rang out all around us.

Several drivers leaned out of their windows, cursing and complaining.

“What’s going on up there? Don’t you know we’re going to be late for work? Why are you still blocking the road?”

Someone spotted our pink car and immediately started swearing without understanding the situation.

“Curses! Another female driver is causing trouble. Alas! These women act like they own the place. They’re always causing trouble for everyone. Hey, you there! If you can’t drive, then don’t. Get your husband to drive you to work instead.”

Some drivers even turned on their high beams and kept flashing them at me.

A furious laugh escaped me.

I never imagined I would encounter something like this at my company, all because I was driving a pink car. It was truly eye-opening.

I texted Grandpa, who was sitting in the car and barely holding himself back, and told him not to come out yet.

This was the perfect chance to see what kind of shady characters were lurking in his company.

As the surrounding chatter grew louder, the man became even more smug. Spittle flew as he spoke.

“You see that, idiot? Everyone knows it’s your fault. You still won’t admit it?”

I felt a surge of anger and amusement.

“What a bunch of brainless perverts! You’re all getting ridiculously excited over a pink car for no reason at all.”

My words pushed him over the edge.

“Who do you think you’re insulting?”

With a roar, the man swung his hand at me.

I dodged it nimbly and kept up my mockery. “What’s wrong? Did I hit a nerve? Didn’t your mom teach you how to respect women?”

I had spent nine years training in self-defense. Had I not been worried about causing trouble for Grandpa’s company, I would have taken that man down.

He kept lunging at me, but he could not even touch my clothes.

Out of breath, he finally stopped and pointed at me.

“You must be the new intern. Do you have any idea who you’re talking to? How can you still behave so arrogantly? You’d better believe that I can have you fired with just one call to the chairman. You’ll be blacklisted all over Haverbrook!”

I was surprised by his arrogant tone.

I racked my brain but could not remember who he was. I also could not figure out if Grandpa even knew him.

The moment I was distracted, he seized my wrist and raised his other hand high.

“You wretched woman, let’s see how you dodge this!”

At that critical moment, someone behind me shouted furiously, “Stop!”

As despair spread across their faces, I listed the repair costs. It totaled up to as much as twenty million dollars. Only one million dollars was attributed to the Rolls-Royce, while the remainder was for the pink Rimac.“This is outright extortion!” Preston yelled, throwing caution to the wind. “It’s just a locally made car. How could it possibly cost so much?”Before I could speak, Nigel, who was still slumped on the floor nearby, answered, “You ignorant fool. This is a Rimac Nevera. Not even ten Rolls-Royces could compare to it. I was wise all my life, only to be ruined in a single moment of stupidity. How did I ever believe you…”Preston went pale as a sheet. “How is that possible…?”Everyone involved in damaging the pink car also panicked and swarmed around him.“You told us to smash it. What do we do now?”“I’m not paying for this, you jerk. You handle it yourself!”“Exactly! You pay for it!”George knelt on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably, but Grandpa did not spare him

A heavy silence fell. Everyone stared at Preston in stunned disbelief.Yet, he only became more brazen. “If that’s not possible, I can marry your granddaughter. It wouldn’t be beneath her, but…”He looked at me. “Once we’re married, I’ll handle work. You’ll stay at home and care for my father and me.”Grandpa froze for a moment, then burst into laughter. After laughing to his heart’s content, he fixed George with a frosty stare.“I must’ve been too kind to you all this time. You actually dare to imagine my granddaughter attending to you?”Before George could stammer out an explanation, Grandpa had already taken my hand and turned me toward everyone.“Listen up. From this moment on, my granddaughter is the only heir to the company.”He cast a cold look over everyone present. “As for all of you, anyone who harassed her today is hereby fired.”The crowd erupted into chaos. Voices rose in desperate pleas for mercy.Suddenly, Preston raised his chin and shouted, “How can a woman b

Silence filled the space. The men who had been calling for female employees to be fired moments ago stood frozen. Their faces were drained of color.A low murmur spread through the crowd.“What? That old man is actually the chairman?”“Quiet! Do you have a death wish?”“B-But didn’t Mr. Creed say he was the chairman’s grandson? Why do they look like they don’t even know each other?”“Don’t tell me we got played?”Preston was utterly stunned. He stammered as he asked, “M-Mr. Wellington… w-what did you say? He’s… the chairman?”Nigel looked just as shocked. He stared at Preston in disbelief.“Didn’t you keep saying Mr. Reid was your grandfather? How is it that you don’t even recognize him?”The air seemed to freeze as they locked eyes. With a howl, George threw himself at Grandpa’s feet.“Mr. Reid, my son is just young and foolish. I was the one who lost my mind… Please don’t take it out on him!”Then, he turned and knelt before me. “Miss Reid, I truly had no idea it was you!

Then, Nigel noticed Ernest standing off to the side. He was drenched in cold sweat. He frowned. “Ernest, as head of logistics, how could you not handle this right away or report it? Why did you let it drag on until I showed up?”Ernest desperately signaled to him with his eyes. However, Nigel waved him off impatiently. “Enough. Whatever the reason, I’ll take over from here. Mr. Creed, who hit the chairman’s car?”Preston pointed at me. There was a smug, malicious glint in his eyes. “It was her.”Upon hearing that, Nigel gave me a once-over.“Since you’re the one who did it, we’ll settle compensation through legal channels.”I stepped forward. “You haven’t even established the facts, and you’re already passing judgment just because he said so?”“Do you know who you’re speaking to, young lady?” Nigel’s tone turned icy. “Here, our word is final. If we say you did it, you did. Refuse to admit it, and we have plenty of ways to handle people like you. Consider this your lesson. You

His words were met with a chorus of agreement from the employees.“Mr. Creed is right. It’s as expected of the chairman’s grandson! He’s looking out for the guys!”“Women like that are ruining society these days.”“Whenever I see a woman in a pink car, I honk and flash my lights on purpose. Watching them panic is pretty entertaining.”Grandpa’s expression grew increasingly grim.Ernest frantically tried to signal to the others, but it was useless.Meanwhile, George struggled to his feet and grabbed Preston’s sleeve, still trembling. “E-Enough… please, let’s go.”“What are you afraid of? I’m the chairman’s grandson. This company will be mine someday. What’s wrong with firing a few employees?”Preston shook him off and became even more arrogant, speaking as if he already considered himself the company’s heir. “I’m telling you, people like them are frauds who need to be taught a lesson…”“What’s all this commotion?”A stern voice rang out from behind the onlookers. “You’ve been

The moment George saw Grandpa, he crumpled to the floor as if he were a puppet with its strings cut. His lips trembled uncontrollably.“M-Mr…”Off to the side, Ernest dropped the fire extinguisher with a thud. His eyes widened, and his face paled as he tried to speak, but Grandpa silenced him with a single glare.Grandpa looked at me apologetically. “Liana, I just remembered that black Rolls-Royce is actually mine. It’s been sitting in the garage so long, I forgot all about it… The color is just too ugly. No wonder I couldn’t remember it.”I chuckled helplessly and was about to speak, but Preston beat me to it.Frowning, he gave Grandpa a once-over and asked irritably, “Who in the world are you, old man?”Ernest stared at Preston in shock, as if he could not believe what he had just heard.Meanwhile, George had gone deathly pale. He was mumbling nonstop, “It’s over… We’re doomed…”Grandpa kept his face impassive.“You claimed you were the chairman’s grandson, and yet you do
