Chapter 6

Author: Hidden Glint
Anthony's voice was low and icy. "I had people look into it. There's no record of Willow leaving the country."

"She should know you well enough to know how to avoid you." As soon as she said it, Maisie pretended she'd misspoken and hurriedly clapped a hand over her mouth.

Still, her words made Anthony's expression darken further. He narrowed his eyes slightly and turned to leave, but she hurriedly threw her arms around him to stop him.

"Tony, stop bothering about her," she said weakly. "She's just an orphan. Your family saved her, took her in, and you've always protected her.

"You even married her and gave her a life where she never has to worry about anything. She should be grateful, yet she just keeps dodging and making excuses now that you need her to give just a little bit back.

"She's too selfish, Tony. She's unworthy of you. You deserve someone more considerate, someone who truly loves you and can share your burden…"

Her tone grew increasingly suggestive, her gaze drifting as she boldly leaned in, clearly about to cross a line.

The sight made my stomach turn. I wanted to look away, but the next second, Anthony suddenly pushed her away.

Maisie froze. I was also stunned.

"I'm sorry. I signed an agreement with Willow," Anthony said flatly.

It took me a moment to realize what he was talking about. Honestly, I'd almost forgotten what he was even talking about.

When Maisie had first returned to the country, she'd wanted to test Anthony's limits. So, she'd faked medical records and claimed she had leukemia, saying that she needed a bone marrow transplant.

I was six months pregnant when Anthony had me forcibly dragged to the hospital. He made me terminate the pregnancy; our first child was killed before we even got to meet them. Because of that, I finally understood that retaliation was useless. So, I started trying to die.

I starved myself, slit my wrists, and tried every way I could think of to end my life. None of them worked because Anthony wouldn't let me die. He wanted to keep me alive to be Maisie's lifeline.

After my repeated suicide attempts, he finally started treating me more gently, wanting to calm me down and keep me alive. He even did the unthinkable and compromised, sitting down with me to set ground rules. Our final rule was that he would never be with Maisie, and I was forbidden from committing suicide.

I knew this so-called agreement would never hold him, but I had to admit that his brief tenderness at the time had messed with my head. And after torturing myself to the edge of death over and over, I was exhausted. I wanted to live, just a little.

Sure enough, it didn't take long for Anthony to break the rules. He continued locking me up, tormenting me, and forcing me to give blood. He violated every rule but the last. I had a feeling he would soon cross that one, too.

So, hearing him now bring up our agreement felt like a cruel joke.

Hearing that, Maisie was so frantic that she was almost driven to tears. "Tony…"

Before she could get any further, Anthony's phone rang. He answered the call.

"Mr. Flint, we've located Willow…"

Anthony didn't seem to hear the hesitation in the caller's voice. He let out a cold, mirthless laugh. "So she finally decided to show herself."

Maybe I was imagining it, but he sounded almost relieved when he said that. His tone made it clear there was no room for argument when he ordered, "Bring her here."

There was a pause on the other end of the line. Then, the reply came. "Mr. Flint, Willow was in a car accident five days ago. She died at the scene. Her body is in the morgue, basement level one, of the hospital you're in right now."

"It's too late, Anthony," I said coldly."Why?" Anthony's eyes reddened. "I've already avenged you, and I regret everything I did. I know I messed up. Why won't you give me one last chance?"I was surprisingly calm as I watched him fall apart. "So what? You admit you're wrong, you regret what you've done, you turn a new leaf, and that magically erases the torment I experienced?""I've dealt with Maisie—"I cut him off. "But the one who hurt me wasn't just her alone. Why is she the only one who needs to pay while you dream about being forgiven? Maisie lied to you and manipulated you, sure. But you're the one who did all the dirty work. You're the one who couldn't tell right from wrong."From the day we got married, I understood that you were an incredibly selfish man. You married me for the right to inherit the Flint family's inheritance, then blamed me for you and Maisie not being able to be together. You made me your punching bag so you could feel a moment of fake peace and run a

"This is my home with Willow. Her soul must be here. I don't want her to keep seeing you even in death!" Anthony's eyes were icy, and his tone final.Maisie was on the verge of breaking down. "Tony, I swear I didn't do anything to hurt Willow. Her death has nothing to do with me."She tried desperately to explain, but Anthony didn't believe a word. "I've already called the police. They'll be here any minute, so you'd better get going. Whatever the truth is, you can explain it to them yourself."As soon as the words were out of his mouth, sirens started wailing outside, growing louder and closer.Amid her panic, Maisie watched as a few police officers kicked the door open and came straight in to take her away. No matter how she screamed and cried for help, Anthony didn't spare her a single glance. My ghost friends watched, feeling thoroughly satisfied."Mr. CEO must be dying of regret right now. But at least he cleared your name and caught the person who killed you."I shook my h

Anthony seemed drunk. The minute he walked through the door, the strong stench of alcohol hit me.Before my ghost friends and I could even guess what had happened, Anthony staggered straight into the bedroom, looking like his soul had been sucked out again. He threw his arms around my urn and suddenly started to sob.My friends were dumbfounded; the cards slipped from my hands and scattered all over the floor.Anthony slammed his fist into the wall, looking almost unhinged as he roared, "Why, Willow? Why didn't you tell me all of this earlier? Why did you have to torture me like this? You promised you'd pick me up at the airport when I got back! How could you go back on your word? How could you lie to me?"After a while of this, his tone softened and became almost pleading. "I'm sorry, Willow. I know everything now. It's my fault. It's always been my fault. Can you please come back? I'm begging you—please come back."In the end, he clutched my urn tightly, his lips bloodless and h

"Who did you just call a mutt?" Anthony looked at the heiress with a pleasant smile, but his eyes were utterly frosty and devoid of warmth. The other heiresses scattered in an instant. The ringleader was so terrified she started shaking and begging for mercy. She stammered that she'd only been cursing me and had no intention of disrespecting him.Anthony ignored her. His gaze shifted to the wine stains on my dress, and his eyes turned stormy. Then, he picked up a bottle of red wine from the side and handed it to me."Pour it on her." His voice was ice-cold.He'd always stayed out of my business, but that night, everything he did was to protect me. Later, every single socialite and heiress who'd taken part in the bullying was dealt with, and even their families got dragged into it.It was the first time Anthony showed his iron-fisted methods after taking over the Flint family. The fallout was huge. No one had expected that bullying me would make him that furious. To this day, I st

Another note read, "Anthony's flight is at 5:00 pm tomorrow. Don't forget to pick him up."And a third. "Meet Maisie at the airport at 7:00 pm."Anthony looked like he was holding something back. His fingers trembled as he traced the handwriting on the notes, his eyes turning terribly red.My memory had never been good. Once, when Anthony finally came home, I'd forgotten what time he was arriving. By the time I'd finished cooking, he was already gone. After that, I'd started sticking reminders on the fridge. These notes were ones I'd written when he was away on this particular business trip.I honestly couldn't remember what was up with that last one about meeting Maisie, though. If I wasn't mistaken, the time the doctor estimated for my death was right around then, too. Could she have something to do with it?Just then, the doorbell rang. Anthony opened the door.A man stood outside. When he saw Anthony, he faltered for a moment. Then, he asked, "Excuse me, is Ms. Shore home?"

  • My Grave Became His Obsession   Chapter 8

This was the first time I'd ever seen Anthony cry, and it was for me. I was a little taken aback, but it soon hit me all over again that I was already dead. All his tenderness and tears didn't mean a thing to me now. His belated affection was cheaper than dirt.Anthony stayed like that for a while. The doctor couldn't just let things go on like that and hit the in-hospital call button to get help. Even with a few people working together, they still couldn't pull Anthony away from me."He seems to really like you." Eddie sniffled, his voice hoarse as he spoke to me.A mess of feelings crashed through me. I felt like something was lodged in my throat; I could barely breathe. In the end, I let out a bitter laugh. "Let's hope so."…A few days later, Anthony was done handling all the arrangements after my death. But instead of putting my ashes in a grave somewhere, he brought them back to the villa. With the kind of money he had, buying a plot was nothing. I had no idea why he chose t
