23. This is a Misunderstanding

Something changed in Adrian's eyes when I touched him, and he didn't seem like he hated me that much anymore. Maybe he was finally starting to realize that I did care about him.

But he was still acting defiant. He wasn't ready to let his guard down yet.

I went back to the living room and looked for Chase but couldn't find him anywhere. I saw Luke by the drinks, so I decided to talk to him instead.

"Hey, Maggie. What are you doing all by yourself?" Luke asked. "Where is your boyfriend?"

I shrugged. "I have no idea. Chase is way more social than me, so he could be anywhere, making new friends."
