Damon steps forward, voice low.

“Don’t listen to him. He’s twisting facts. He always does.”

Lucian lets out a soft laugh. “Facts? You think the truth bends because you glare at it?” His eyes shift to me. “Your family had power. Influence. A heritage older than any Alpha line. And it vanished overnight. Do you ever wonder why, Aria?”

My heart pounds.

I speak slowly. “Everyone said it was an accident.”

“Everyone,” Lucian says, “because someone controlled the story.”

Damon snaps, “Enough.”

But Lucian continues, voice sharp and steady.

“He is the one who burned it down.”

My breath leaves me all at once.

Like someone hit me in the chest. Hard.

Damon steps closer. “Aria, look at me. I didn’t break anything.”

Lucian lifts a brow. “You destroyed everything.”

My voice breaks. “Stop talking in riddles. Tell me what you mean.”

Lucian answers without doubt. “He ruined your family’s legacy to protect his own.”

I want to scream. My thoughts battle until the inside of my brain feels raw.

“Explain,” I whisper.

Lucian opens his mouth.

Damon cuts him off. “He’s lying. He always lies.”

“Funny,” Lucian muses, “she doesn’t feel lied to. She feels the truth. Isn’t that right, Aria?”

My hands shake at my sides. I do feel something. I feel cracks in Damon’s words. Not lies. Not the truth. Something in between. Something heavy, like secrets he is holding behind his teeth, afraid they might spill if he opens them too wide.

“Stop,” I breathe. “Both of you. Stop talking around me. Speak to me.”

Lucian’s eyes relax. Damon’s darken.

Damon moves first.

“I was trying to protect you.”

My heart lurches. “Protect me from what?”

“From him,” Damon says, pointing at Lucian.

Lucian laughs again, but there is no humor in it. “Protect her? Damon, you hid her so well she didn’t even know who she was.”

My pulse trips over itself.

“Hide me?” I agree.

Damon goes still.

I whisper again, louder this time. “Hide me?”

He closes his eyes for a short, painful second. When he opens them, guilt flashes across his face so clear it cuts me.

Damon says, “I only wanted to keep you safe.”

It feels like a confession. But not the whole thing.

Never the whole thing.

Lucian takes a slow breath. “You see? He can’t deny it. He buried your past. He buried your family. And he thought no one would ever find you.”

Damon snarls, “Shut your mouth.”

Lucian steps toward him, calm as a ghost.

“Make me.”

Lucian reaches into his coat and pulls out a small black folder.

My heart drops when he gives it to me.

“Take it, Aria. Open it.”

Damon snaps, “Don’t.”

Lucian’s tone sharpens. “Encrypted archives. Asset changes. Hidden accounts. Everything your family owned was moved. And guess whose name shows on the approval lines?”

My hand shakes as I take the folder.

“No,” Damon says. “Aria, don’t”

I flip the first page.

And there it is.

His signature.

Bold. Clear. Damon's.

The floor seems to tilt under me.

I whisper his name, voice cracking. “You said you never touched anything related to my family.”

He takes a step toward me, afraid of lighting his eyes. “I didn’t. Not like this. Not the way he wants you to think. I had to sign some documents”

“Documents,” Lucian cuts in, “that erased her heir rights. Documents that turned her into a ghost.”

My stomach turns terribly.

“Why?” My voice is a breath. “Why would you do that to me?”

Damon pulls a hand across his mouth. “It’s not what it looks like.”

Lucian scoffs. “It looks like the truth. For once.”

Damon’s voice goes cold.

“Guards.”

My eyes opened. “No”

Four guards step into the hall instantly, weapons drawn, eyes fixed on Lucian like he is an execution order waiting to be carried out.

“Take him,” Damon says.

Lucian’s smile spreads slowly. “You still think force will save you?”

The guards move.

Lucian doesn’t move. Don't move. He could be cut from ice.

“You want to arrest the only man telling her the truth?” he asks softly.

Damon snarls, “You’re manipulating her.”

“No,” Lucian says. “I’m revealing you.”

The guards edge closer.

I step between them. “Stop! Do not touch him.”

Damon stiffens. “Aria”

“I said stop!”

The guards freeze.

Damon’s jaw locks. Lucian’s eyes gleam with interest. Almost admiration.

Damon whispers, “He’s dangerous.”

Lucian answers, “She already knows that.”

Lucian leans close to my ear. I feel the warmth of his breath. A shiver runs down my spine.

He talks so softly that only I can hear him.

“Ask him why you were hidden.”

My heart stops.

Then starts again too fast, too hard.

I swallow. My voice is rough when I speak.

“Damon… why… Why was I hidden?”

Damon’s eyes widened with fear.

“Lucian,” he growls. “You crossed a line.”

Lucian straightens, hands behind his back, the picture of cool success.

“I crossed nothing. I only started the match. She will burn the lies herself.”

Damon turns to me. “Aria, we should talk alone.”

“No,” I say. “Talk now.”

His chest rises and falls. He looks stuck, and that worries me more than anything.

He says, “It’s complicated.”

Lucian cuts in. “It’s simple. If you won’t tell her, I will.”

Damon roars, “Shut your mouth!”

Lucian doesn’t move.

He looks at me again.

And this time, he talks loud enough for everyone to hear.

“He hid you because someone wanted you dead.”

The world stops moving.

Damon’s eyes squeeze shut.

Lucian continues, voice low and sharp. “And he thought hiding you from your own bloodline would save you. But he never asked you if you wanted the truth.”

I turn to Damon, heart pounding, throat tight.

I say, “Is that true?”

He says nothing.

Nothing.

And his silence answers everything.

The folder slips from my hands and hits the floor.

I take a step back.

Another step.

Lucian watches me with calm interest.

Damon reaches for me with shaking hands.

“Aria,” he says, “please”

I lift my chin, voice breaking.

“Who wanted me dead?”

Both men fall silent.

Neither talks.

And that quiet turns into ice running down my spine because if neither wants to answer, then the truth is worse than anything I can imagine.

I whisper one last question.

“Was it someone I know?”

Damon’s eyes widened with fear.

Lucian’s smile turns sharp.

And I know.

I know the answer is yes.

And I know the truth will break me.

I don’t trust him.The thought settles deep and steady, not loud, not frantic. Just true.Lucian watches me like he already knows that. Like he expects it.“You’re thinking too loudly,” he says.I cross my arms. “Then stop listening.”A corner of his mouth lifts. “If I could, I would.”I don’t look away. “You said there was another secret.”“Yes.”“And you waited.”“Yes again.”“Why?” I demand.“Because timing matters,” Lucian replies. “And you weren’t ready to hear it.”Anger sparks. “You don’t get to decide when I’m ready.”He steps closer, not invading, not retreating. “If I told you everything at once, it would have broken you.”“I don’t break,” I say sharply. His gaze sharpens too. “That’s why you survived.”I exhale. Slow. Controlled.“Say what you came to say,” I tell him.Lucian nods. “I want to train you.”I laugh, sharp and humorless. “Train me like a weapon?”“Like a leader,” he corrects.“I didn’t ask for this power.”“No,” he says. “But it asked for you.”I shake my head.

Like a man waiting for a verdict.“You brought me here for answers,” I say. “Start talking.”He nods once. “You don’t waste time.”“I lost enough of it,” I reply. He places a folder in front of me. Thick. Old. Marked with symbols I recognize from my mother’s journals. My chest tightens. “You said you had proof.”“I do.”I haven't touched the folder yet.“Before I open that,” I say, “tell me why I should trust you.”Lucian leans back. His voice is steady. “Because I gain nothing from lying to you now.”“That’s not comforting.”“No,” he admits. “But it’s honest.”I opened the folder. The first page hits like a slap.Names. Dates. Agreements. My father’s name is there.Signed.My fingers tremble. “He never agreed to this.”Lucian watches my face carefully. “I know.”I flip the page. Another document. Another signature.“That’s his writing,” I whisper. “But it’s wrong.”

Something is wrong. The thought hits me before sound or movement. Before instinct even has a name for it. My skin tightens. My pulse sharpens. The hum inside me shifts from steady to alert.“This isn’t over,” I whisper.Lucian’s eyes flick to mine. “You feel it too.”I nod once. I don’t ask what *it* is. I refuse to run this time. The thought steadies me as soon as it forms. It settles deep in my chest, heavier than fear, stronger than doubt. I have spent too many years reacting. Too many years being guided, protected, hidden. Not anymore. The files Damon tried to keep from me replay in my mind. The words final key. The way his voice shook when he said my bloodline had been sealed. Not destroyed. Sealed. That means it can be opened.I follow the pull without questioning it. I know where to go. I always have. I just never trusted the feeling before. My mother’s estate has been silent for years. Empty. Preserved. Untouched by choice, not neglect. I asked once why we never sold it. My father said some places are not meant to be cleared out. They are meant to wait.I finally understand what he meant.“My parents didn’t lie,” I whisper to myself. “They prepared.”The entrance gives way easily, like it recognizes me. That alone makes my chest tighten.“You shouldn’t have listened to him,” he says. “Lucian is dangerous. He feeds on doubt.
