Chapter 23 Promoted

Li Mu walked into the office with apprehension when he went to work on Monday.

From afar, he had already seen He Xiaoyu sitting at his work station, staring fixedly at the entrance.

When she saw Li Mu, He Xiaoyu immediately sprang up from her seat and called out loudly, “Li Mu!”

A few of the colleagues who had already reached the office immediately turned their heads to their side one after another and looked at them curiously.

Li Mu quickly trotted over and said in a low pleading voice, “Ms. Yu, please spare me. If there is anything, let’s go outside and talk about it.”

He Xiaoyu snorted and strutted out of the office.

Li Mu hurriedly threw his bag on the desk and followed her out obediently.

The two of them went to the garden downstairs, and found a place with not many people. Before Li Mu could sit down, He Xiaoyu had already begun to question him, “Lin Wan blocked me, right?”

“Yes, you’re stupid. Very stupid. Extremely stupid! If Lin Wan doesn’t have any secret, I’ll write my name, He Xiaoyu, backward!”

“Yu Xiaohe, it sounds good!” Li Mu teased.

He Xiaoyu raised her leg, gave him a kick, and said, “I’m telling you something serious. Stop interrupting me!”

“Hey! Why did you kick me?” Li Mu patted the shoe print on his pants and said, “Look, I can’t get it off. You might as well give me a punch.”

“Okay!” He Xiaoyu gave him a punch on the head and said, “Idiot. I really want to knock some sense into you!”

“Do you feel better now? Would that appease you?” Li Mu asked with a grin.

“Humph, I feel worse. Unless you can become smarter. Tell me everything that had happened in the last two days. I’ll help you analyze them.”

“Xiaoyu, that’s after all, my personal matter. You don’t have to bother about it!”

“Say that again!”

“No, I already said that it was a misunderstanding. Just forget it. Don’t mention it anymore. It’s so frustrating!”

“Do you know why you feel so frustrated? It’s because the knot in your heart hasn’t been untied yet. Li Mu, if you plan to continue to deceive yourself, then I really won’t bother you anymore. But don’t come and complain to me if you have really been betrayed in the future.”

“Betrayed? Would things get so serious?” Li Mu’s tone began to become a little hesitant.

At the beginning, he didn’t tell her everything in detail. However, in the end, he could only tell her everything clearly as he couldn’t bear He Xiaoyu’s thorough questioning.

He Xiaoyu frowned and thought for a while before saying to Li Mu, “It seems that there are a lot of questionable points in this matter. There are a lot of things that cannot be explained clearly. I am particularly puzzled about one thing. Why does she want to make everything so complicated?”

“What questionable points? Why can’t I find any of it?”

He Xiaoyu rolled her eyes at him and sneered, “It’s because you can only see Lin Wan in your eyes. Tell me, what else can you still see?”

“Since you have found them, then tell me about it. You don’t have to scoff at me like that!” Li Mu grumbled.

“Alright, I’ll tell you where the problems are now. But let me ask you a question first. You have checked through her phone, right?”

“Yes, I have checked through it, but I didn’t find any problems!” Li Mu replied honestly.

“Is she using a dual-SIM card phone?”

“She only has one activated phone number, and I’m sure of that!”

“Are you sure? Humph, don’t say it so confidently. Don’t you feel strange at all?” He Xiaoyu suddenly asked.

“To be honest, I also feel that something is wrong, but I couldn’t find any problem with her call history.” Li Mu said uncertainly.

“Are you really stupid or just pretending to be stupid? Don’t you understand? No problem is exactly the problem. Her phone records are so clean. What does that mean to you?” He Xiaoyu reminded him.

“You mean she deleted part of the call history?”

“Well, this’s probably the case. Then the question comes. If there is really nothing between her and Lin Kun and those people are really her family members. Why does she need to delete her call history?”

Li Mu’s face darkened when he heard that. He already felt that something was wrong when he was looking through Lin Wan’s phone at that time, but he didn’t think of this at all.

However, he immediately noticed the problem after He Xiaoyu brought it up now.

What He Xiaoyu said was right. Since she had a clear conscience, and since they were her family, why should she erase all traces of contact between them? This doesn’t seem logical at all!

“There is a way for us to find all the call history!” He Xiaoyu said confidently.

“How?”

“We can go and check her phone bill record. She can only delete the call history on her phone, but not the record in the billing system. I am in charge of the Shanyang’s system project, so I know their password for their remote maintenance.”

The two of them hurried back to the office and went to Li Mu’s work station together.

After opening the remote maintenance webpage, He Xiaoyu entered the administrator password and called up Lin Wan’s billing records for the last three months. Then, she started to check one by one with Li Mu.

Both of them felt a little strange as they looked through them.

This billing record was almost the same as the call history he saw on Lin Wan’s phone. Li Mu can even conclude that the two records were exactly the same.

This meant that Lin Wan didn’t delete her call log, nor did she hide anything.

Li Mu was starting to feel a little bored. Just when he was about to close the webpage, He Xiaoyu suddenly stretched out her arm to stop him.

“Wait, something is not right. Yes, I know what’s wrong. There is a problem with this bill record!”

“What’s the problem?” Li Mu asked with a low chuckle, “I think there is something wrong with your mind. Whatever you see have a problem.”

“Li Mu, all her family members are not locals, right?”

“Yes, she is from Zizhou, and all her family members are also from Zizhou. What’s wrong?”

He Xiaoyu pointed to the screen and said, “Look! That is the problem. Can you find any Zizhou’s number in this bill record?”

Li Mu froze for a moment before he took a look at the computer screen again. Sure enough, all the phone numbers shown on the bill records were local numbers. Even if there were a few foreign numbers, they were also not Zizhou’s numbers.

“Do you know where is the problem is now?” He Xiaoyu asked.

Li Mu nodded and said unhappily, “It’s impossible that they are not contacting each other by phone. I don’t think they would take the trouble to change all their phone numbers to local numbers when they came here to look for their daughter. There is some problem with this billing record.”

“Oh gosh. You are so stupid! There is no problem with this billing record. No matter how capable Lin Wan is, she can’t delete the records in the system. You still can’t figure out where the problem is?”

“Do you mean that she has another cell phone?” Li Mu asked uncertainly.

He Xiaoyu nodded vigorously and said with certainty, “I’m sure that she has another cell phone. They contacted each other with another phone number. Do you still believe that there is nothing between her and Lin Kun?”

“This doesn’t really mean anything as well. Maybe...” Li Mu couldn’t continue anymore.

“Isn’t this enough? She has another cell phone, which she used to contact the other man behind her husband’s back. Do you still think that there is no problem?”

He Xiaoyu gave his shoulder a pat and said, “Even if it can’t prove that she is having an affair with another man, but it is certain that she is hiding some dirty little secrets. At least, there is a secret that she can’t let you know about.”

“What should I do about this? If I go and ask her directly, she would certainly not tell me the truth,” Li Mu was starting to feel a little annoyed and slammed his palm on the table.

“What happened, Li Mu? Who made you so angry?” Mr. Yan’s voice came from behind him.

“Nothing. We are just joking around with each other!” He Xiaoyu rushed to answer his question.

Mr. Yan chatted with He Xiaoyu briefly before waving at Li Mu and said, “Li Mu, come to my office for a while. I’ve something to tell you.”

After saying that, Mr. Yan turned around and went back to his office, and Li Mu muttered a little worriedly, “He looks so serious. I’m afraid that it’s not anything good!”

“Quickly go!” He Xiaoyu said with a grin, “It’s a good thing. You’re going to be promoted!”

“Nonsense. Why am I suddenly promoted for no reason? I don’t have that kind of luck!” Li Mu said with a self-deprecating smile.

“It’s true, Li Mu. Don’t doubt yourself. I always believe that you can do it!”

Li Mu still didn’t believe in her words. He only went to Mr. Yan’s office after playing around with He Xiaoyu for a while.

He entered the room after knocking on the door. Mr. Yan pointed to the chair opposite him and said with a pleasant smile, “Li Mu, please have a seat!”

“Boss, why are you looking for me?” Li Mu asked politely.

Mr. Yan stood up, walked behind his desk and went to close the door first. Then, he pulled over a chair and sat next to Li Mu.

“Li Mu, I have good news for you.”

Li Mu was excited when he heard that. Could it be that what He Xiaoyu said was true? Is he really going to get promoted?

He continued to listen to what Mr. Yan had to say, “After the company’s formal assessment, the review team felt that your capabilities and performance at work are extremely outstanding. The company management has decided to promote you to be the business consulting director and deputy general manager of Quest Mobile’s business department.”

Upon saying this, he stretched out his hand and patted Li Mu’s shoulder and said to him cheerily, “After the official notice comes out, this office will belong to you. Li Mu, let me congratulate you in advance!”

Li Mu was in a daze after hearing his words. He couldn’t digest this piece of news for a moment.

He didn’t expect that he was really promoted just like what He Xiaoyu told him.

There was really too sudden. Why didn’t he hear any news about it before this? He wasn’t prepared for this at all. Also, how did He Xiaoyu know about this news?

He only came back to his senses when he heard Mr. Yan congratulating him, and hurriedly asked, “Boss, then how about you? Where are you going?”
