Nevertheless, my first day at work was exciting. The bar closed at 3 AM and we were free to leave. I was wondering how we would go home at that time of the night when some of us slept on the couch. Some used the cushion as a bed. I did the same thing and rested my head on one of the beanbags.
Unfortunately, I could not sleep. I was troubled by the events of the day. I remembered my family and how much my tips could do for us.
A stream of joy flooded my mind and I said to myself, "Mom will be happy with this."
At that point, I slept off. I was woken after two hours by Andrea.
"Wake up, Julius. The manager wishes to see you," he tapped my legs and informed me.
I opened my eyes and discovered that the day was bright already and some of my colleagues were not there. Indeed, the sleep of a laboring man is sweet. I had never slept like that in a long while.
"Good morning, Andrea. Thank you for informing me," I greeted him and got up wondering how I would clean up before meeting the manager.
"Good morning. Go to the washroom and clean up," he said and pointed towards a door.
"I got it," I said and got up languorously.
"Hurry up and don't keep me him waiting," he ordered me and I hastened up.
I got to the washroom and met my colleagues cleaning up. I had no toothbrush or paste and one of them noticed it.
"You can have my toothpaste, Julius. You can gargle with it," he said.
I was pleased with the offer. I collected the paste and appreciated him. Soon, I was through and left for the manager's office. He was ready to leave but was waiting for me.
"Good morning, Manager," I greeted him.
He searched my countenance, smiled softly, and answered me, "Good morning, Julius. How did you see the job?"
I smiled shyly and responded, "The job is fine."
"Are you sure? What about the fights? You were terrified," he asked me further.
"I was terrified, but I will get used to it," I stated.
"I like that. This is your offer letter. Read through it and see if you can cope with the conditions," he said, handing out the letter to me.
I collected it from him and read through it while he studied my expression. The conditions were not important to me as the payment and I quickly looked out for it. It was not as poor as I expected. I continued reading through, and the conditions were not too much for me to cope with.
"Thank you very much for the offer. I can cope with the conditions," I said smiling from ear to ear.
"I'm happy you like it. Kindly indicate that by acknowledging the receipt of the offer."
I did as he instructed me and handed the acknowledgment copy to him. He collected it, put it in a folder, and faced me
"Congratulations once again. See you in the evening," he complimented and dismissed me.
"Thank you for the compliment, Manager," I appreciated him and left his office.
I was walking to the supervisor's office to inform him of my appointment. Fortunately, he was interested in the outcome of my visit to the manager's office and came to meet me.
"How did it go?" He asked me anxiously.
"It went well. I have been employed," I announced with glee.
"I expected that. You are a smart boy."
I was delighted to know that I impressed him.
"Thank you, Andrea, for believing in me."
"You are welcome. See you in the evening," he said and walked back to his office while I walked away.
Unknown to me, the men at the gate had been waiting for me.
"How did it go? Did he absorb you as a relief staff?" The guard asked me with genuine concern while his colleague eagerly waited for my response.
"It went well, Officer. Thank you for your encouragement. I was not absorbed as a relief staff but a permanent staff," I announced proudly.
"Wow!"
"Congratulations," they said one after the other.
I appreciated them and began to walk back home. My house was a bit far but I was familiar with trekking. Part of the tips I got from the clients could take me home if I chose to board a taxi but I did not wish to tamper with it. Rather, I increased my pace and walked on happily.
Before I got home, I saw some of my colleagues but I did not want them to know my house for fear of identifying my father. I carefully dodged them and walked into my compound. Eugenia was about to leave for work when I walked in. She breathed freely and asked me questions.
I explained everything to her and she was pleased.
"Congratulations. Let me run along or I will be late for my work," she said happily and moved.
"It's all right. Have a great day, Big sister," I said and waved at her.
"Bye," she responded and left.
I walked to my mother's room and met her sleeping. To avoid disturbing her, I walked out of the room. Meanwhile, Milo, our dog missed me. Since I returned from school, that was the first time I was spending the night outside the house. He walked to me and began to circle around.
"Did you miss me, Milo?" I asked him jovially and rubbed his head.
He was pleased with that and wagged his tail. I took him to the kitchen and I got my breakfast. While I was eating, Mother walked to the parlor.
"Good morning, Mom," I greeted her cheerfully.
She smiled broadly and responded, Good morning, Son. What kept you?"
I got up, walked up to her, and hugged her. She was surprised and inquired again, "What's up? Have you gotten a job?"
"Yes, Mother," I released her and answered.
She was enlivened and pulled me closer for another hug. Apart from the support that my income would give to the family, she wished to see me fulfilled like my mates.
"Thank you. I guess you are seeing the interior for the first time.""Yes," he answered me.In my quest to exhibit a character worthy of friends, I decided to follow my instincts by doing those things that our parents did for us as kindergartners. I veered off from the road to my house and headed to the mall. He did not ask questions because he was not familiar with my house. I drove into the mall and parked. He gave me a quizzical look and smiled."Excuse me. I will be back, "I said and got out of the car."It is okay," he said and began to wait for me.Nevertheless, I could feel him watching and admiring me while I was walking to the store. I returned after a few minutes with ice cream and pizza. To my surprise, he was on a call with someone. Not only that, he was angry and could eat the person up if he or she was within his reach. As soon as he saw me, he cut the call on the person.I felt for him because the caller just ruined his day.'It must be his wife,' I thought and waited f
Lindsey was not prepared for the question. Instantly, he experienced some discomfort in his system but had to think of a suitable answer very fast."It was after he left here. You could recall that you called the prince and he said he gave some youths a ride to the market.""Yes, I recalled. He attacked them because I dismissed his claim as a heap of piffle.""You are right, My King."To buttress Lindsey's story, the General informed him that he had arrested the transgressor. Presently, the king was very angry with the Duke and did not want to disturb his weekend with his matter."Thank you for arresting him. I will talk about that on Monday," he informed the General. "I got it, My King," he responded and returned to his office leaving the Duke to his fate.Meanwhile, no member of his family was courageous enough to come for him.Julius' HouseWhen I returned, I did not see my father's car and wondered what happened. All the same, I knocked on the door and waited for their response.
At that point, I remembered that he said that if he saw Julius, he would keep him."Huh!" I cried out and got up."I hope he is not keeping Julius and having lunch hour quickie with him every day."That assumption infuriated me more than anything else. I picked up my car keys and stormed out of my office immediately. Such actions scare my secretary and clerk. They assumed that I was provoked by a staff and would deal mercilessly with him. I got into my car at once, drove to the gate, and stopped."Come with me, CSO," I said not minding the fear on his face."I got it, Mr. Zenith," he said and armed himself with two handguns. He got into the front seat and I drove off. I drove into Wilson's complex as calmly as I could to avoid being stopped. We walked into his office, and I introduced myself to his secretary. She informed him that I was around and he gladly said, "Let him in.""Wait for me," I informed my CSO and he obliged. When he learned that I was around, he concluded that I came
He led us to the car park where his driver and escorts were waiting for him. I do not know much about cars but I perceived that the least car among them could buy three of my dad's luxury cars."That is your driver, Mrs. Reagan. His name is Humphrey," he informed my mother and pointed at a driver who was standing beside a car."I got it, Mr. Macaulay," she responded and the driver opened the door for us.We got in and greeted him happily. Mr. Macaulay got into his car and we left. After twenty minutes, we were in a mansion. It looked familiar, and I recalled that I only saw it on the television and in my Current Affairs textbooks. Macaulay was the the name of the Prime Minister and Henry was his first son. The woman to be cared for was the Prime Minister's mother."Welcome to my humble home," he greeted us when we got out of the car.""Thank you for having us," we responded in unison."Come with me," he said and led us to her mother's chamber. We saw an old woman of about seventy-fiv
I was lost for what to say to him. Refusing his offer may signify that I was still angry with him. I thought for a while before I answered him, "I will revert.""It's okay," he said and ended the call."Maybe we should eat at Johnson's office," I said to myself and called Johnson.Johnson's Office I was disturbed when Reuben got a call and ended our discussion. I could not be jealous since it could be a business call. When he did not call me back quickly, I became worried and many thoughts filled my mind."What could they be discussing? If it is a business call, the caller should have called his GM," I concluded and decided to call him.At that point, I got his call and picked it up immediately."What's up?" I asked him curiously."It is Wilson. He wants us to have lunch together."To say that I was angry was an understatement. Wilson is a randy goat and never had respect for relationships. He only wants to have sex with every gay and discard them."What did you tell him?""I told hi
I walked her to the gate and watched her as she boarded a cab. Afterward, Milo and I began to walk back to the house. I glared at my father's dusty car and ignored it. My mother was up and preparing for the training. Indeed, being busy would help her to heal faster."Good morning, Mom," I greeted her."Good morning, Son. Welcome back.""Thank you, Mom. I hope you slept well.""Yes, I do. How was your work?""Work was fine. I can see you wished to be at the job fair earlier.""Yes. Today is the last day. I wish to ask more questions about my job.""And submit your assignment," I reminded her."You got it. We are also collecting our certificate of participation today.""Oh! That's fine. I would love to be there and take photographs with you.""That would be great. I wish Eugenia would be around as well.""Did you inform her?" "No, I did not.""She may not come.""I will speak with her. She would come if it is convenient for her.""You are right," I agreed with her.She left afterward a
"I had a heavy lunch. Any light food would do," I informed him."I got it, Mr. Zenith," he responded and left. While waiting for him, I kept myself busy with the television. I smiled when I saw a recap of the job fair. Not quite long, my dinner was ready and I began to eat. Having eaten with Johnson for some days, eating alone was difficult for me. My problems that night were many. I was eager to know the cause of the traffic jams from him and the longing to chat with him filled my stomach. Nevertheless, I ate a little and was satisfied. Shortly after, his call came in and I picked it up quickly.Mr. Johnson's House Edna's incessant calls annoyed me and I was ready to put an end to it. I got home and my security guards informed me that she was there to throw tantrums. She could not come to the office because I had never introduced her to the guards."Why didn't you tell her that I was not yet back from my trip?" I asked them."We did, Boss but she would not listen.""She said that he
Johnson's POV Edna's call was a pain in the neck and I wondered why she insisted on getting my attention that day. I planned to settle her and we would go our separate ways amicably. I never promised her marriage therefore, she had nothing to fault me with. To avoid distracting Reuben, I set my phone in silent mode and pretended to be working while admiring him. I was pleased with his stay and wished that it would continue.Westminster Before the General came to the guard room to see the Duke, Celestine had beaten him to his heart's desire leaving him with bruises."What? Did he attack you also?" The General asked them and gave them the right answer. "Yes, General. He almost strangled me," Celestine answered him, and the Duke was astounded at his level of lies."Ha!" The Duke exclaimed in astonishment and the General assumed that he was only pretending.A cockroach can never be innocent among fowls (African Proverb). The guilty-laden Duke could not defend himself and was afraid tha
Instead of answering her, he was forlorn and looking hopeless. When she got tired of waiting for his response, she hissed and walked away."Will the king discover the truth? What will he do to me? I will tell him that I was deceived by the devil to do that," he decided and stared in the space. He was there until lunch and his wife never bothered to invite him. His youngest son, Kingsley, returned from the local school and greeted him, and he mumbled his response. Kingsley joined his mother in her room. After the greetings, he went for his lunch.Despite the Duke's worries, his stomach would not be overlooked. It wobbled due to starvation and he got up. Kingsley was eating when he walked into the parlor and he instructed him, "Get my lunch for me.""The pot is empty," he informed him."Why?" He asked him angrily."Because you are not hungry," his wife, who had been waiting for him, walked in and answered him."What does that ..."He stopped in his tracks when he saw two soldiers walki
