Alejandro stood on the balcony of his chambers, the cool night air brushing against his skin as he gazed into the dark view of the forest. The moon hung high, casting a silver glow over the trees, but his attention was drawn to the distant howl that echoed through the night. It was faint, almost imperceivable to anyone else, but to him, it was unmistakable.

It was Clarice.

The sound was raw, filled with pain and fury, and it sent a ripple of unease through him. He closed his eyes, his jaw clenched as the weight of her emotions crashed over him like a wave. Bitterness. Jealousy. Betrayal. They were all there, tangled together in a storm that threatened to consume her and in some ways, him.

This wasn’t the first time he had sensed her like this. Over the centuries, he had grown fond to her feelings, a side effect of their deep, unspoken connection that used to be. But tonight, it was different. Tonight, her anguish was sharper, more deeper, and he knew exactly why.
