Emery’s POV

No, no no this can’t be.

“Mate!” He called out again, drawing closer to me, and I stood rooted, staring at me.

Am I dreaming or what?

“You’re my mate?” I asked with a low voice. I’m not too sure that he’s actually my mate, what if he was there when Emilia said that nonsense about me yesterday and he’s just trying to tease me.

Even if he’s pretending, one thing is for sure, my racing heart and anxiety. I feel so nervous and shy, like the ground should open up and swallow me.

He brought his hands close to me and brushed my cheeks sweetly, and I felt it, I felt the sparkles. I took two steps back away from him in shock.

How’s this even possible? I thought, I thought I was human? How am I feeling the sparkles?

“You…” I bit my lower lips, not knowing what to say, when I heard a low growl coming from him, forcing me to stare at his dark, pitch-black eyes.

I opened my mouth to say something but was grabbed forcefully by someone shutting my mouth “What are you doing, huh?” Came the voice of the rudest girl I have ever known… Cami.

She’s Emilia's best friend and my second worst enemy. I do feel like she’s the reason why my sister treats me the way she does, and I hate her for it.

“And who are you to question me?” I asked, staring back at her annoyingly.

“Aren’t you supposed to be home with your mother instead of playing around with boys?” She scoffed, eyeing the gentleman in front of me.

“And aren’t you supposed to be with your mate instead of poking your nose into people's businesses, and oh, your mate is dead, I’m sorry” It feels so good getting back at her.

Cami had her mate by 18, and she thought that was the end of the world for all of us, but unfortunately her mate lost his life on the battle field when she was 20, and ever since then she hasn’t been with a mate.

She’s a year older than us.

“What did you say?” She asked, showing me the corner of her sharp canine, and I gulped hard but still kept my emotions neutral on the surface.

“I said what you heard.”

We locked gazes at each other, and then she let out a melancholic laugh before bursting into tears holding her eyes.

“Ahh!!” She shouted, and all of a sudden blood found its way down from her eyes.

What the hell!!!

“Ahh!!”

Everyone immediately gathered around us, and Cami crutched on the floor crying. Fuck, she’s trying to manipulate them by acting all emotional and playing the victim.

“Cami, what happened to you?” Emilia rushed to her and kneeled in front of her, holding her tight.

“Oh, it hurts a lot, Emil,” She cried out, and some people started casting their glance at me.

“Cami, come on, tell me…how did you hurt your eye?” Emilia pushed in.

“What? I can’t possibly hurt myself; it’s all Emery’s handwork.” She wailed, and then I got everyone's full attention.

My palms immediately became sweaty as I rubbed them on my gown. The Alpha will punish me because he personally made a promise to Cami that he would be her supporter when her mate passed away and Cami almost died, but she survived, and her wolf hasn’t been in full, her wolf is weak, but she’s still a bit stronger than me anyway.

“I didn’t do any…”

“Oh will you shut it!” Emilia snapped at me.

“You know how fragile she’s yet you’re harming her!” Her face was squinted up in anger and I felt a pain in my chest.

My twin sister doesn’t believe me, she’s in support of what her best friend said. What if I had a wolf and lost it? Would everyone also show me pity like they show Cami and also care for me.

“Believe me, I didn’t harm her, why the hell are you lying, Cami??” I shouted, glaring hard at her.

“Alpha you promised to come to my aid at all times, right?” Cami asked with a low voice, and I immediately glanced at the Alpha, who stared at me before returning his eyes back to Cami, and then he nodded.

“Emery here is a threat, she has been the one inflicting all those scars on me, I’m so scared, I don’t want to die by her hands…I want to die as Henry’s mate, I miss him so much and…” She buried her face in Emilia’s shoulders, crying loudly as everyone threw their angry glare at me, which I’m used to already, but today is different.

“Guards!!” Alpha Roland called after a while, and they immediately sprang forward.

“Seize Emery, I will tell you what will be her punishment later,” He ordered and they immediately lunged at me.

“Touch her and kiss your life goodbye!” A mighty voice said behind me, forcing everyone to stare at the man who has been watching silently all along.

“Touch my mate, and I will kill you!”

“Alpha Kaiser,” Alpha Roland called in disbelief, and I stumbled forward before starring at him.

No way!

Without knowing what to do, I turned around and took on my heels.
