Aria.

The field was starting to clear out. The cheers and laughter from earlier had faded into soft chatter and the occasional squeak of wheels as the cleanup crew pushed the benches back into place. Kai had just finished saying goodbye to the last of the kids, giving a high five to one of the smaller boys and ruffling Mina’s hair. She beamed up at him but didn’t even glance in my direction as she clung to her mother’s hand and walked off.

I found it weirdly cute. The way she was already defensive of him, like she needed to protect him from me. I kind of respected it. If Kai was really her hero, I could understand how she wanted everyone to see him as the same.

We were quiet as we walked toward the edge of the field. I didn’t know why I hadn’t let go of Kai’s hand yet. Or why he hadn’t let go of mine. His fingers were still wrapped around mine, warm and sure. I looked down at them and felt it again.

Peace.

  • My Quarterback Alpha   Chapter 37

KaiThe wind was cool against my face as the bike sped down the quiet forest road, but all I could feel was her.Aria.Her arms were wrapped tightly around my torso, her chin brushing my shoulder every now and then when the road curved just slightly. She was so close I could feel the rise and fall of her chest with every breath. My hands gripped the handlebars, but my mind, my mind was still back there, by the lake, where her lips had touched mine for the first time.I had been scared. Not of her, never of her. But scared of what it meant to want her so badly, of how deeply she had already sunk her way into me. That look in her eyes before I kissed her, the green soft and glowing under the sun, framed by the flowers and water and light, it wasn’t just beautiful. It was breathtaking. She stood there like a dream, surrounded by nature, the same green as her eyes, with the lake reflecting all that soft magic back onto her face. And I…I lost it.Her lips were parted slightly, and I cou

  • My Quarterback Alpha   Chapter 36

Aria. I was drying the last of the dishes when I heard Kai cursing softly from the living room.I peeked around the corner to see him crouched beside the old PlayStation that looked like it belonged in a museum. He was trying to plug something in, his brow furrowed like he was defusing a bomb."Need help, tech genius?" I called, smirking. He grunted, holding up a tangle of wires. "I swear this thing used to work."Eli was sitting cross-legged in front of the TV, holding a controller that wasn’t even plugged in, pretending to drive a race car. I shook my head, drying my hands on a towel before walking over. But before I could say anything, there was a knock at the door.Kai stood up slowly, stretching his arms before moving to open it. His shirt was slightly wrinkled from lying around, and his hair was still damp from his shower earlier. He turned the lock and pulled the door open.Standing on the porch was a woman. She looked exhausted, her eyes sunken and her clothes dusty. Her hand

  • My Quarterback Alpha   Chapter 35

Aria. I stirred awake slowly, the weight of sleep still clinging to my limbs like a heavy blanket. My cheek was pressed against something warm, solid… Kai. His arms were around me, steady and calm, his breathing deep and even. I blinked at the ceiling for a moment, confused at how peaceful I felt. How long had it been since I’d woken up without the sting of fear or the pull of nightmares? The moment didn’t last long.A sharp cry pierced through the room, loud and sudden.I jolted, eyes flying toward the doorway where Eli stood, small fists rubbing his eyes as tears streamed down his cheeks. His bottom lip trembled, and his cheeks were wet and blotchy.“Mama,” he cried softly, voice thick and broken.Beside me, Kai groaned into the pillow, his voice muffled as he dragged it over his head. I sighed, my entire body aching. We hadn’t gotten much sleep, between the late night, the confessions, and the nightmares, I had maybe dozed off for a couple of hours.I tapped the bed gently, pattin

  • My Quarterback Alpha   Chapter 34

AriaI lay still in the quiet, wrapped in warmth that should have felt foreign but didn’t. Kai’s breathing had evened out, soft and steady, like the storm inside him had finally gone quiet, for now.His arms were around me, loosely but protectively. I could feel the slow rise and fall of his chest against my back, the heat of his body soaking into mine like sunlight. It wasn’t supposed to feel this comforting. Not with him. Not with someone I was supposed to hate. But in this moment, I couldn’t deny it, being here, wrapped in Kai Blackthorn’s arms, I felt safe.Just moments ago, he had been trembling. I’d heard the scream echo down the hallway and bolted out of bed without a second thought. By the time I reached his room, he was already fighting something unseen, caught in the grip of a nightmare so violent, I thought for a moment he might hurt himself. His eyes had been wide, unfocused, wild like he didn’t know who I was. When I reached for him, I saw the flicker of a predator in his

Warning: abuseKaiI was eight again. I knew it the moment I opened my eyes and saw the carved ceiling of my old room. The colors were faded, the corners blurred like fog around the edges, but it was all exactly as I remembered. The air was cold.I was under the bed, curled up with my knees pressed to my chest, the thick rug brushing against my cheek. My breath came out in small shaky exhales. I could still feel the way my tiny fingers gripped the wooden floorboards. My pulse thrummed in my ears, loud enough to drown out the silence.Until it wasn’t silent anymore.Heavy boots echoed through the marble hallway outside. One… two… three… deliberate and unhurried, like thunder that knew it would strike. My heart pounded harder. My mouth was dry. I knew that sound. I had known it all my life.Alpha Magnus Blackthorn. My father. He was coming.I didn’t dare move. Maybe if I stayed still long enough, maybe if I held my breath, he would think I wasn’t here. That I had disappeared. That his yo

  • My Quarterback Alpha   Chapter 32

Aria.By the time we reached the cabin, my legs felt like jelly and my shoulder ached from the cold seeping into my bones. The walk had only been fifteen minutes, but it felt longer with the silence between us and the weight of everything that had happened tonight.Kai pushed the door open and reached for the light switch. The soft click echoed in the quiet space before warm light spilled across the polished wooden floor.I blinked. The place was beautiful. Not the kind of cabin you’d expect from a rugged football Alpha with too much pride. No, this was… lavish. Like someone had taken a catalog photo of “cozy luxury” and turned it into a real-life escape.Dark leather couches. Floor-to-ceiling windows that looked out into the woods. A stone fireplace in the center, surrounded by deep gray armchairs. The walls were lined with bookshelves and everything smelled faintly of pine and cinnamon, like it had been used recently. Lived in.Kai kicked off his shoes and nodded toward one of the ro
