Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
The dining table was covered with all kinds of shrimp dishes.

My mom linked her arm through mine affectionately. “Jana, you must be tired after a full day of studying, right? Look, I made your favorite shrimp just for you!”

She didn’t know that shrimp had been my favorite when I was little.

I hadn’t touched it in years.

I picked the shrimp off my plate. “Mom, I’m allergic to shrimp.”

She froze for a moment, then suddenly seemed to remember something, her expression turning awkward.

“Right! Look at me, I’ve gotten so muddled—I forgot you suddenly developed a shrimp allergy when you were eight and even ended up in the hospital…”

“It was nine,” I corrected.

The smiles on my parents’ faces became even more strained.

At this age in my previous life, I would have felt hurt.

But after living through it once, I no longer felt anything over their favoritism.

Yuna and I were twins. She was born before me but weighed just over four pounds.

I, the younger one, weighed a full six pounds.

She had always been frail and sickly, placed in an incubator right after birth, while I had been strong as a horse, perfectly healthy.

Some people said I took Yuna’s share of nutrients even before we were born.

So, my parents had always favored her.

In my memories growing up, I was always the one watching the three of them laugh happily together.

When I was eleven, I came home from school to an empty house.

I waited alone, hungry, until ten at night before my parents finally returned, bringing Yuna back with them, full of excitement.

She was holding a toy from an amusement park.

When she saw me, she let out a small “ah” and said, “Mom, we forgot to bring my sister.”

My chest tightened as I looked at my mom, hoping she would promise something, like taking me next time.

She barely spared me a glance before saying, irritation lacing her voice, “We have a kitchen. You’ve been home this whole time and didn’t even think to cook? Honestly, how thoughtless can you be?”

My dad sat on the couch like a king, legs crossed, silent.

From that moment on, I understood.

They never loved me.

So, I stopped expecting anything.

Later, I succeeded in my studies, achieved financial freedom, and became the child they proudly spoke of.

Yet they still doted on Yuna, who lived a life of reckless indulgence.

After I was stabbed to death, my soul drifted above and watched as my mom rushed into my bedroom.

Her eyes widened in panic as she asked my dad what to do.

My dad lit a cigarette, took a drag, and said in a low voice, “They look so alike anyway. If it comes down to it, let Yuna take Jana’s place and keep living.”

My mom hesitated for only a moment before making her decision. “Alright. We’ve already lost one daughter; there’s no way we’re losing the other too.”

Just like that, my death was quietly buried.

The three of them still went on to celebrate my birthday, laughing and enjoying themselves, as if I had never belonged in their lives at all.

With the table full of shrimp I couldn’t touch, my mom placed some vegetables onto my plate. “Here, Jana, eat more.”

“Mom, just say what you want to say.”

Beside me, Yuna gently tugged at my mom’s sleeve under the table.

“A sin… what a si…”She didn’t even finish the sentence. Her head slumped to the side, and just like that, she was gone.Yuna burst into a crazed laugh. Then she suddenly lifted her head and looked straight toward the camera.“Jana, you’re watching me, aren’t you? Let me tell you this, one day, I’ll be even more successful than you were in your last life! Everything you had will end up in my hands!“The system is mine now. My luck will always be better than yours!”I could only shake my head, almost pitying her.Even now, she still believed my success in my previous life had come from the system. The moment it told me luck came at the cost of lifespan, I had completely given it up.I let it lie dormant within me for years.During that time, it tried to tempt me again and again, but I endured through sheer willpower. The system wasn’t some golden advantage. It was a death sentence.…By the time I saw Yuna again, I had already finished my studies at Alderwick and returned home to open m

Yuna immediately burst into loud, exaggerated sobs. “Our poor mom… she’s dying, and her own daughter has money but won’t spend a single cent to help…”The crowd began whispering and pointing.“That’s disgusting.”“How can someone be like that?”Yuna shot me a subtle, triumphant look. She even lowered her voice and said, “Jana, just give up. I have the system’s luck; you can’t win against me.”I shook my head, almost amused. “Do you really think… they’re talking about me?“Check your social media, Yuna.”The moment I finished speaking, the voices around us grew louder.“This whole family is unbelievable, completely heartless. Favoritism doesn’t even begin to cover it.”“If you ask me, people like this… if they die, so be it. At least the younger sister would finally have some peace.”“And that sister of hers—what the hell is wrong with her?”Yuna’s expression began to shift. She hurriedly pulled out her phone and opened her social media. The moment she saw the trending topic at the top,

She rushed forward and grabbed Yuna’s hand. “Yuna, what do you mean by that?“M-my illness… is it because of you? How could you do this to me and your father?!” She broke down, sobbing as she beat her own thigh in despair. “Your father and I have spent our whole lives favoring you over your sister, just so you could have a better life. And this is what we raised? A heartless ingrate!“You ungrateful child! Ungrateful child!”A strange, bitter feeling rose in my chest. So, they had always known that they favored Yuna over me.But what did that change? In the end, they still didn’t love me.I let out a soft laugh and turned to leave. It didn’t matter anymore. The moment I died in my last life, they had already stopped being my parents to me.That very night, I suddenly went viral online. The same Yuna and my parents who had been arguing earlier now stood united, posting a video together accusing me.They said I had won a huge sum of money but refused to share it with my family, even wh

Her near-hysterical state didn’t settle until the results were announced. This time, our school didn’t place well at all.And all the blame fell squarely on her.“I saw her mess up several times during the performance.”“One bad apple ruins the whole bunch.”“If Jana had gone on instead, we definitely would’ve placed much higher…”Those words clung to her like a nightmare, echoing endlessly in her ears. So, when the host handed her the microphone, she suddenly snapped.“What do any of you know?! What does Jana have that I don’t? She’s not better than me at anything!” She spun around, screaming, her eyes bloodshot, her expression unhinged. “Why does she get to live better than me? Why?! My life is supposed to be the one that goes smoothly! She doesn’t deserve to have it better than me!!”Yuna was dragged off by security.Even in the final moment, she was still screaming at the top of her lungs. “Jana, you bitch! Do you even know whose life I traded to get this chance to go on stage?!”

A thought rose in my mind—Could it be that lifespan wasn’t limited to trading your own?…On the day of the performance, Arden still hadn’t arrived. The judges’ panel was already full. The instructor was urging Yuna to get into position. “What are you waiting for? Are you ready?”As her supporting dancer, I sat off to the side, scrolling idly through my phone.Yuna started to panic. She grabbed a staff member from the organizing team. “Where’s Professor Dale? Is he running late?”“Professor who?”The staff member looked at her, confused. “What are you talking about?”Yuna’s face drained of color. She was pulled into center position by the instructor but suddenly seemed to remember something. She turned and grabbed my wrist. “Jana, did you do something?!”Her eyes were wide, almost unhinged. “You bitch, what did you do to Professor Dale?”I looked up at her calmly and let out a quiet laugh. “Why don’t you ask your system?”The announcements ended.Whether she wanted to or not, Yuna had

She tossed aside her towel and struggled to her feet, putting on a limp as she looked down at me. “You’re my sister. If you just ask me nicely, what wouldn’t I give you? It’s just the lead role.”She could stand with ease, while my leg throbbed so badly that I couldn’t move at all.Something in me snapped.I wrapped the towel around my wrist, braced myself against the mirror, and slowly pushed myself up.Then I swung my hand hard across her face. Her cheek instantly flushed red and began to swell.Yuna clutched her face, staring at me in disbelief. “You actually hit me?!”She had never been treated like this. All her life, she had been the one bullying me; I had never once fought back. But after she said that, I grabbed her collar, yanked her forward, and slapped the other side of her face just as hard. Then I shoved her to the ground and dropped down hard onto her knee.A sharp crack echoed. It sounded like bone. She broke out in a cold sweat from the pain.I let out a cold laugh. “Y
