**Elena**

The grand piano played a soft, elegant version of the Happy Birthday song as we re-entered the hall.

Guests turned their heads, pausing their chatter to watch us. My heels clicked softly against the marble floor, but all I could hear was the pounding of my heart.

Xavier walked beside me…no, he practically had me locked in his arms like I might slip away at any second.

His hand stayed firmly on my waist, warm and possessive. I could still feel the effect of his lips on mine.

My cheeks were burning, and no matter how hard I tried to keep my expression neutral, the blush gave me away.

I couldn’t stop thinking about what happened just ten minutes ago. We’d barely talked, just made out.

And then..

That poor maid.

She had dared to knock because it was past time for the grand entrance. Xavier had snapped, stepping in front of me, voice cold and sharp.

“You’re lucky you didn’t walk in thirty seconds later,” he’d hissed. “And that you’re not a male. If you were… I wouldn’t have le

**Elena**She brought it out slowly. I stared at the brown file in her hands. But before I could take a closer look, the sound of footsteps echoed from the hallway.Voices.Loud and close.I turned sharply to her. “You know what… just keep it for later,” I whispered. “We have to leave. Now.”Ivana nodded, sliding the file quickly back into her jacket. I grabbed her hand and we slipped out of the dressing room, out of Trisha's chambers.Music thumped below us, the party was going lively. Laughter, clinking glasses, the occasional cheer from someone probably a little too tipsy. We moved quickly through the corridor, passing a few distracted guests, heads already spinning with champagne.Once we reached the grand staircase, Ivana slowed her steps, her breath still shallow.“Where’s the present?” I asked, glancing around.“It’s still in your room,” she said. “I’ll go get it.”“No,” I said quickly, shaking my head. “It’s fine. I’ll go.”I didn’t wait for her response. I turned towards the

**Elena**I turned around. But there was no one. My steps hastened, as I rushed toward the lift on the second floor. It was the quickest way to get to Trisha’s room. My breath was shallow, and my heart beat with a strange urgency I couldn’t quite explain. As the lift doors slid open with a mechanical hum, I stepped inside, only to stop mid-motion.There was someone already there.Blocking the way.My heart jumped to my throat.Sweat pricked the back of my neck. I froze, every nerve suddenly on alert. Was it…?"Helena," a familiar voice broke the tension.I blinked, my chest still heaving slightly."Adolfo," I breathed out his name, forcing a smile as my hand subtly curled into a fist at my side. "Hey."He smiled broadly, completely at ease. How could he be so calm? I’d swear someone had been tailing me just seconds ago.“Have you seen Lauren anywhere?” he asked, brushing his hands through his dark hair. “You know I haven’t been to the mansion in a while. Some places have changed, and

**Elena**But why here…Why now?"Helena..." Xavier’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.I blinked and forced a smile, adjusting my focus. “I’m sorry. I got distracted for a second,” I said quickly, trying to stay present. The music was still playing softly as our feet moved on the dance floor, but my heart wasn’t in it anymore. Something had shifted. I could feel it.Loud cheers erupted as the ballroom clapped and the music came to an end.“Happy birthday, Alpha Xavier,” Luna Eleanor’s voice cut through the noise as she and her husband walked over. Alpha Trevor chuckled. “Still with the mask thing, huh?” he teased lightly. She waved her hand, dismissing his tone. “Don’t mind him,” she said with a smile, turning to me. “Actually, it does look quite pretty on you.”I gave her a small smile. I didn’t feel pretty. Not at this moment. My mind was too cluttered to enjoy the atmosphere. So I excused myself gently and left Xavier with them. Then I heard it.“I haven’t seen you in so long

**Elena**His breath was hot against my skin as he pressed me against the wall, one hand gripping my waist like he owned it.I should’ve stopped him, but I didn’t.Instead, I just stood there, heart pounding, hands gripping his shoulders as if he was the only thing holding me upright. Then came the sound. My Zip.My breath hitched. The cold air hit my back and slid down as my dress slipped to my hips in a second.Only my red pantie, my lacey bra, and the mask still covering half my face kept me from being completely bare.“Xavier…” I whispered, trying to find some sanity. “The door's not locked…”That was the only thing my mouth could form. Stupid. Why did I say that? His lips didn’t leave mine. He just groaned into my mouth like my words meant nothing. He moaned again, deep, rough, and pulled me even closer. As if he was saying I don’t care. Let them watch. His fingers trailed up my back, unhurried. My body trembled as he found the clasp of my bra. One flick. That’s all it took.It

**Elena**I pressed the phone tighter against my ear, trying to steady my voice. "Hi.""How have you been, Elena?" Her voice was soft, almost casual.I clenched my jaw. “Cut to the chase. What do you want?” I said coldly, not wasting time."That's harsh," she replied, a hint of hurt in her tone. "C'mon, can't I ask how you're doing, Ena?"Ena? That name felt like a knife twisting in my gut. "Please. You don’t have the right to call me that again," I snapped. "Now, why did you call?"There was a long sigh on the other end. "We’re almost at the mansion," she said quietly. "I thought... maybe we could meet. Talk."I swallowed the lump in my throat "There’s no need. I’m out of town," I lied smoothly. "Enjoy the birthday party." And just like that, I ended the call.I dropped the phone on the table, heart pounding. Had to lie. She has no idea of my marriage with Xavier. Nor the whole mask thing.Turning to Ivana, I forced a smile. "So, you were saying?"She stared at me, disbelief written
