Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
Before I could react, Mason pulled the divorce papers from his bag.

“I suggest you be smart about this. Otherwise, I have plenty of ways to tell everyone what kind of woman you are! Even if you don’t care about the shame you’ll face, can your son handle it?”

Susan stood nearby with her hands on her hips and glared at me.

“You shameless woman! You hid the truth from us for eighteen years! You stay in my house just to spread your filthy diseases to us, don’t you?”

She took a few steps back and looked at me in disgust.

The crowd quickly scattered.

Quiana stood with her hands on her hips and spoke with the authority of a doctor.

“Please don’t avoid seeing a doctor. The earlier it is detected, the sooner it can be treated. I can see your complexion is bad, and you have a few pimples on your face.”

Quiana frowned and let out a deep sigh.

“This is definitely syphilis. Considering your reckless private life, you probably have gonorrhea, genital warts, or HIV.

“Since these diseases can be passed from mother to child, I suggest your son get checked too.”

What nonsense! She was just making things up!

I watched Quiana shield her belly with her hand and deliver her self-righteous medical lecture.

That was when I finally understood why Mason had gone to such lengths to risk losing his own son just to stage all this.

A forty-five-year-old man, tempted by his young mistress, was expecting a child in his middle age!

I sneered.

“Mason, you know exactly who was reckless in this scenario!

“A paternity test at a normal hospital takes at least a week! I have every reason to suspect that you’re faking the results!”

Mason remained calm.

“Willa, you’ll keep making excuses to the very end! No matter how many hospitals you go to, the result will be the same.”

Mason was very confident, and I knew he was right.

In my past life, no matter how many times I tested Yulian and Mason’s hair, the DNA results were always the same.

I had agreed to do another paternity test a week later, but that was only to buy some time.

I had to find solid evidence during that time.

Otherwise, I would only be repeating the mistakes of my past life.

During the days I was at the hospital with Yulian, the online chatter never stopped.

The public loved a story about an affair, after all.

Many clickbait accounts ran pieces about sexually transmitted diseases and their dangers.

People online kept attacking me.

[Today, I saw this sick woman at the hospital. She is full of disease and still trying to seduce men! She jumps on any man she sees. People like her should just jump off a building!]

[That’s too easy for her. That woman should be doused in concentrated sulfuric acid and then slowly burned with white phosphorus!]

The online threats were cruel.

While I was handling Yulian’s discharge paperwork, a crazed woman suddenly rushed at me.

She threw concentrated sulfuric acid all over me.

“Today, I’ll carry out the justice myself!”

Even though I reacted in time, my clothes were badly burned.

The wall behind me smoked and caved in from the damage.

Bystanders excitedly aimed their cameras at us.

People online cheered. They even offered ways to secure the woman’s bail.

The whole internet was eager to see me punished.

During that time, I could do nothing. Not a single doctor would agree to see me.

I felt discouraged.

Could it be that even though I had returned to the past, I could not change my fate at all?

I searched every corner of the house again.

From what I knew about Mason, the place that seemed most dangerous was actually the safest.

Sure enough, I found several test reports in the locked bedside drawer.

The top three were paternity tests for Mason and Yulian. They showed that Mason was indeed Yulian’s father!

The five reports underneath all showed that Mason and Yulian were not biologically related.

When I saw the last test report, my eyes widened in disbelief.

It was no wonder that every paternity test I had done before had shown the same result. Mason was hiding a huge secret!

The sudden turn of events left everyone in shock.I stayed calm and smiled softly.Only a fool risked everything on just one plan.In my past life, after I became pregnant, Mason slowly stripped away my influence in the company. After forcing me to leave with nothing, he took full control of the business. To show his loyalty, he gave half of his shares to Qiana.Mason, already well past middle age, seemed to regain his vigor. He cared for Qiana deeply and protected her thoroughly. It was no wonder I learned of her existence only after my death. It was a shame that this young woman did not appreciate it. She only wanted his money.Thinking of this, my smile grew wider.Susan, hopping away, finally noticed me.Her voice was sharp and vicious as she said, “Willa, did you do all this?!”She grabbed the police officer’s sleeve.“Officers, my son’s innocent! He couldn’t even hurt a fly, let alone attempt to murder someone! This horrible woman is framing him!“I don’t understa

I stared at the results in disbelief. There were hair tests, blood tests, saliva tests, nail tests…How could this be possible?Mason’s parents had only ever had one child. If even one report showed a biological connection between Mason and Yulian, it would have proved that Yulian’s genes might have come from the uncle who had been absorbed by Mason in the womb. It would have also confirmed that Mason was a genetic chimera. The doctor looked at me coldly.“Ms. Zabel tried to bribe me, but I cannot falsify results. My duty as a doctor doesn’t allow it.”Mason could finally feel at ease. He said, “Willa, we’ve been married for eighteen years! I cared for Yulian as my own son for eight years. I might’ve been able to overlook what you’ve done, but the company is my father’s legacy.”He paused and sighed heavily.“No matter how greedy you are, there has to be a limit. As we agreed before, you will leave the house with nothing to your name.”The crowd pressed in closer. In the c

Two sets of DNA?!Everyone stared at me in disbelief. They probably thought I had lost my mind. One of the older men in the crowd spoke up. “Are you serious? Even with a basic high school education, you’d know that’s nonsense! Everyone has only one set of DNA. Two sets? That would be some kind of genetic disorder.”His words seemed to snap everyone else to attention. They nodded and agreed. “It’s no wonder she didn’t even flinch when she got an STD. Now, it makes sense. Even with chromosomal abnormalities, it’s usually XXY or XXX.”“She is just panicking and making things up!”I listened to their skeptical remarks and projected the test report from my phone onto the hospital’s screen.Even though the screen was old and poorly maintained, the report was clear and vivid.[Patient: Mason York, 45.[Analysis shows XY and XXY mosaicism. 47, XXY is also known as Klinefelter syndrome…]The room went silent with shock.Online, people completely lost it.Susan’s eyes went wide in

Mason hurriedly told the doctor to collect the samples. “Willa, we agreed already. If Yulian isn’t my son, you leave this house with nothing.”I sneered and nodded. “Of course.”Susan muttered, “That stubborn woman still won’t admit it.”Even the onlookers did not know where my confidence came from. Because the whole internet was watching, the hospital agreed to speed up the test for free.In front of everyone, the doctor collected hair from both Mason and Yulian. As the doctor turned to leave, I stopped him. “Hair alone is not accurate enough. Please test their blood as well.”The moment I said that, the scrolling comments stopped for a second. Everyone began mocking me.“Where does her confidence come from? Even if they run the test ten thousand times, the results won’t change.”I smiled and nodded. “Maybe it will.”Mason’s face turned pale, and he looked shaky. “There’s… there’s no need for that! “Yulian just had a blood transfusion a few days ago. This isn’t

As soon as I got home, Yulian ran into my arms. “Mom! I…”Seeing him hesitate, I crouched and stroked his head patiently.“Yulian, what is it?”He looked up at me. His face was covered in tears. “Mom, they said I’m not Dad’s son. Is that true?”I froze.I had always kept Yulian away from the adults’ dirty game to protect him. He should not have found out about this! Where had he heard it?“It… it was Dad. He admitted online that I’m not his son! The people said I’m a child without a real father.”I held him close and told him that none of it was true. After I calmed him down, I opened my phone. The replay of Mason’s livestream was still on the homepage. On the screen, Mason’s eyes were red from tears. His stubble made him look worn out. “My wife insists she didn’t cheat. I’ve been with her from the time we lived in a small rental to running a public company. Eighteen years together… I can’t believe she’s such a person. This is a top hospital’s paternity test. The d

The report had “genetic chimera” printed in bold.My hands shook as I held the paper. There was a line of small text under it:[The sample shows an excess of Y chromosomes. Results indicate an XY and XXY mosaic.]I took out my phone with trembling fingers and searched for information on it.[A genetic chimera, in simple terms, means that two fertilized eggs end up merging into one.]A sudden thought hit me. I remembered what Susan had told me about Mason’s birth. When she started her prenatal checkups, she was pregnant with twins. But in the end, she only delivered one baby.Mason had absorbed his unborn brother while he was still in the womb! That was why he carried both his own genes and the genes of his sibling who had not survived. It was no wonder Mason was so confident.Every hospital showed me the same results. But how did he make sure the results were always accurate?I looked through the reports again. The dates on the pages were close to each other. The same
