CHAPTER VI.

Isla Palm

Having to step back into Jayden's company was going to be a torment, especially when they hadn't let me send my resignation letter to human resources. I found myself pacing back and forth outside Jayden's office, psyching myself up to go in.

"You're going to dig a hole in the floor, Isla," Rachel whispered in a teasing tone. "Just go in and get it over with."

I nodded, touching the door, and a few seconds later, I entered the office, feeling my entire body trembling.

Jayden was in front of the computer typing rapidly, not even taking the time to look up.

I stood there, motionless, waiting. Nervously, I fidgeted with my fingers.

"Isla Palm," I jumped when he mentioned my name.

"Sir?"

Jayden stopped typing and pushed his chair back silently, walking towards me.

"What do I have to do to get you back to your position?" he said, brushing a strand of my hair behind my ear. "I'm very upset; no one does the job the way I want. Are you sure you want to quit? I can increase your salar
