Chapter 3

작가: Goodtale
When I woke up, I was already lying in my own bed. A bowl of medicine, which had turned cold, sat by my bedside, yet no one was taking care of me.

News of a 3‑year‑old angering me so badly that I passed out spread through the entire household within half a day. The servants made fun of me behind my back and laughed about how a noble Princess had been pushed to the ground by a small child.

I could not take this, and I struggled to sit up while I instructed that my things be packed. "I want to return to the Princess' Residence."

The moment I gave the order, Isaac entered my room. With a wave of his hand, my Royal Signet Ring bearing the family crest and my Palace Pass were confiscated right away.

Isaac looked at me with an air of authority and said, "Now that you have married into the Seymours, you will live your life as a Seymour and die as a Seymour. I will instruct my men to remove your name from the deed of your Princess' Residence."

After that, he locked the room, and I was held captive in my small room with no one to save me. I was determined to get out, and I gave my personal maid every cent I had managed to keep hidden. I told her to climb over the walls to inform my parents of my predicament.

The first maid was brought back to me with a broken leg. She lay on a stretcher with blood all over her while she wailed, "I am so sorry, Princess. I only made it to the second door…"

I continued sending my maids out for help. My second maid had her left leg broken, while the third maid had both legs broken. Both of them were flung outside my room door, which soaked up their blood.

All I could do was hold them in my arms as I wept with sorrow. My heart was so broken that I no longer sent anyone out to get help. The only thing left for me to do was accept everything that was happening to me and swallow every angry emotion boiling inside me.

Isaac put on a great show when he was out in public.

Father heaped praises on him as a new noble who had great potential, while his colleagues thought of him as a well‑mannered and humble young man who was also cultured. Everyone believed that I had married a good husband.

Every time I entered the Palace, Mother held my hand with tears in her eyes. She said how much weight I had lost and lamented that I did not look well. She wondered if I was unhappy, and this always prompted me to say something, yet Isaac was always by my side.

He stared daggers at me, and it felt as if they sliced every piece of flesh off my body. In the end, I kept my mouth shut.

The Seymours grew increasingly bold in the next 6 months when it came to abusing me.

Roxana blocked my carriage from leaving and forced me to call her "Lady Seymour". If I refused, she would not let my carriage leave. Even the most junior maid serving under her went over my head.

My monthly allowance was docked, and she served rancid meals to me while she rolled her eyes and said, "You can go hungry if you do not want it."

I was a Princess, yet I lived a life worse than a slave.

When it was late at night, I stared at my wedding gown and thought of Mother when she held my hand and kept telling me that if anyone bullied me, I should not hold back and should go home anytime to tell her. However, all I could do now was cry silently.

Mother was soft and did not know the ways of the world. If I told her the truth about the life I was living, I would only cause her to become a laughingstock and might even embroil her in the scheming plans of others.

So, I tolerated it.

This continued until the Harvest Gala when the Seymours were invited, and the Princess was informed to bring her husband to attend it. When Roxana found out about it, she made a fuss about attending the gala as well. "I would like to see how glamorous it is and see the hall filled with nobles."

I looked at her in disbelief. "You want to enter the Palace when you are only a mistress?"

Isaac, Camilla, and Hugo nodded in agreement.

Camilla smiled in a benevolent way. "You should go and let the entire kingdom see what a good‑looking grandson the Seymours have."

They started discussing clothes and carriages for the gala and made sure that they had everything better than mine. In the end, they took the Princess' carriage and allowed Roxana and Ignatius onto the carriage while I was given a worn‑out carriage that came in last in the convoy.

I pushed open the blinds in the carriage to see my gold‑rimmed carriage in front being occupied happily by the mistress, and it made me want to cry.

Just like that, the grand convoy from the Seymours headed into the Palace with the mistress taking the most prominent carriage.

"You pretended to be naive for decades, and you even kept it from me?"Mother was silent for quite a while before she replied in a soft voice, "Before the late King passed, he held my hand and told me that Prince Edmund was wildly ambitious, and he could only leave the kingdom in my care."He said that if I attracted too much attention, I would not be able to live for long, which was why I pretended to be silly, foolish, and ignorant. I did not expect the act to continue for decades."There was a long silence in the room, and I thought Father would not say another word. However, he spoke again, sounding pained. "Are you not tired after all these years?"Mother did not reply, yet I knew she was crying. Father continued in a hoarse voice, "From now on, I will act alongside you."Mother smiled and choked back a sob. "You do not need to do that. It is time to return this kingdom to its rightful owner."My tears could not stop falling as I listened to their conversation outside the ro

Father let him live only because they were family.Vivienne was found guilty of forming factions for personal interest and causing disorder to the Palace. She was stripped of all titles and relegated to a commoner. She had once been the highly regarded Noble Consort, and when she was dragged out of the Palace doors, she turned back to yell at Mother."You put on a pretty good act! I schemed half my life in the Palace, only to lose to a woman who pretended to be foolish!"Mother did not even look at her when she replied, "I am not the one you lost to. You lost to yourself."Vivienne was dragged off, never to be seen again.Isaac was sent into exile 3,000 miles away to the border. On the day he w

In order to live, Isaac revealed the mastermind behind everything.News came from jail that Isaac wanted to see Mother because he had something to say, and Mother went. I went with her.It was dark and humid in jail, and the moldy air was filled with the stench of blood.Isaac sat behind the bars, looking haggard and thin. He had once been a dashing man, yet now his cheeks had sunk in, and there were dark rings beneath his eyes. He no longer looked like the noble he once was. When he saw Mother, he fell to his knees with a loud plop on the cold ground and begged, "I am guilty, and I deserve death, but please have mercy on me. I am willing to reveal the mastermind behind everything!"Mother looked at him coldly. "Talk."Isaac swallowed hard and said in a trembling voice, "The person who instructed the Seymours to ask for the Princess' hand in marriage to produce an heir of the Royal bloodline was the late King's younger brother, Prince Edmund."I was in shock.Edmund was my uncl

That night, the Royal Guards surrounded the Seymour Residence.I stood outside and watched the door where I had been forced to slap myself for the past 6 months being kicked open. Crying, screaming, begging, and the sound of things being rummaged through came from inside. It was chaos. The servants who had bullied me haughtily because of the Seymours' silent consent were dragged out and forced to their knees. The Royal Guard Commander came forward to report their seizure of the Seymours and their assets loudly."Princess, we have found three boxes of ledgers proving corruption, 27 letters confirming that they sold official positions, and proof of Roxana docking the allowance of Your Highness when she was taking care of the household accounts, and taking the Princess' dowry for her own."I was surprised that there were accounting records of my cold meals and old clothes given to me in the past 6 months. Every cent that Roxana had docked from me had been returned to the Seymours' poc

The Seymours no longer showed any ounce of respect for Mother when they saw she had failed to put them in their place twice. Isaac's arrogance went to his head, and he became even more insolent than before."If the Queen Consort is still determined to make a mess of the situation, I would have no choice but to make a joint request with all the court officials to request that she be stripped of her title!"The request to strip Mother of her Queen Consort title caused a commotion.Roxana's hips swayed as she walked slowly toward Mother and smiled brightly. "Your Majesty, a pushover like you is only able to stand here, thinking that you have real power, because the King dotes on you."Look around here. Who in this hall has any respect for you? Who here has not called you an incompetent fool behind your back?"Camilla and Hugo yelled in agreement, causing more laughter in the hall.I could no longer take it. Tears streamed down my face as the anger and sorrow I had suppressed for 6 m

The Seymours grew even more insolent after escaping death. Isaac even went as far as to confidently advise Father about the Queen Consort. "Your Majesty, please forgive my bluntness, as I have something to say."Isaac turned the tables on Mother and claimed that she was trying to interfere with the imperial court. He accused her of being jealous in nature and lacking virtue as a Queen Consort for calling for an execution during a gala. He said she was a disgrace to the Royal Family."Your Majesty has always been just, and I would like to ask for justice on behalf of Roxana and me."Vivienne's supporters immediately took the cue to voice their dissatisfaction with Mother. They took turns declaring why Mother was not worthy of being the Queen Consort. It hurt tremendously to watch this from behind Mother, especially when I saw how thin and frail she was.I had wondered many times in the past 6 months if I would be able to escape the horrible abuse by the Seymours when they confined
