Chapter 2

Autor: Goodtale
Camilla smiled in a benevolent way as she pulled the boy to her side. "This is the first grandson of the Seymours. Roxana gave birth to him before you married Isaac."

A chill went down my spine as I asked in a trembling voice, "Why would you still want to marry a Princess when you already have a wife and child?"

Isaac burst out laughing. "Marry a Princess? All I wanted was your status. Do you really think I would ever fall for you?"

Roxana came up to me and curtsied while she smiled softly. "My name is Roxana. A pleasure to meet you, Princess."

My nails dug into my palms, and I had no idea what to say. Every servant lowered their head, and no one dared speak, yet Roxana refused to let the moment pass. She held her son's hand and approached me slowly to give me a bow. "We are sisters now that we have the same husband."

I looked away as I felt my ears burn from her words. "You are not my sister. How dare you deem yourself worthy to be called my sister when even your marriage to my husband is not recognized by the kingdom."

Roxana was not angry, and she smiled even more softly. "The Princess is of noble blood and was brought up as a lady. It is only normal that someone like me is not worth your time."

Isaac came forward to shield her behind him. He looked at me with an air of superiority. "Roxana has not always been in good health. Stop acting so ill‑mannered around her. It will only frighten her."

I felt nauseous as I said through clenched teeth, "A mistress like her deserved death for the mere act of appearing in front of a Princess."

Isaac sneered. "Roxana has every right to be here because she gave birth to my first‑born."

Roxana took the opportunity to speak up with a trembling voice. "It is not right to let the Seymours be without an heir, Princess. I gave this family their first‑born, yet I did not ask for anything in return. It chills the heart to know that the Princess still feels the need to demean me."

She carried her son in her arms and pushed him close to me while she gently coaxed him. "This is your mother, Ignatius."

Ignatius cowered in her arms and called out to me in a timid voice, "Mother."

The anger rushed to my head, and my hands trembled so much that I could hardly grip my handkerchief. "Who told you he is allowed to call me 'Mother'?"

Isaac's face fell, and he flung my hand, which was pointing at Ignatius, away. "You should consider yourself lucky that my son is calling you 'Mother', and stop being ungrateful about it."

Roxana looked as if she was about to cry. She hugged Ignatius tighter and choked back a sob. "If the Princess does not like being his mother, I will make sure Ignatius stays silent. I promise he will not anger you any further."

I stared at her and replied in a trembling voice, "You are just a mistress without anything to your name. What right do you have to play victim and shed tears in front of me?"

Roxana turned pale, and her face was quickly covered with tears as she wept in a pitiful way. She peeked through her fingers to look at me while she cried, and she choked back a sob as she said words that pained my heart.

"I have lived a life of suffering, unlike the Princess, who has enjoyed a life of luxury. Yet your mother, the Queen Consort, who is supposed to be an example to all women in the kingdom, is highly disrespected in the Palace.

"So many have called her an incompetent fool behind her back."

All I heard was buzzing in my mind. She could insult anyone she wanted, except for my mother. I staggered toward her and raised my hand to her cheek. "Shut up!"

Before I could slap her, everything started spinning around me, and I saw black. It felt as if my feet had left the ground. The 3‑year‑old Ignatius somehow found the strength to crash into me with his small body and push me to the ground.

I screamed and hit the back of my head against a table leg. The pain was so sharp that I started seeing stars. My personal maid was so shocked that she ran toward me to help me up. "Princess! Princess, are you all right?"

However, none of the Seymours looked at me.

Camilla, Hugo, and Isaac were busy tending to Ignatius. They questioned him to see if he had hurt himself anywhere as they checked him up and down, worried that the incident had frightened him.

"Did Ignatius hurt himself?"

"Let your grandmother take a good look at you, my poor grandson."

The cold ground was covered with tea and my blood, yet no one cared. I was so furious that I felt a rush of blood to my head, and I blacked out from pure anger.

"You pretended to be naive for decades, and you even kept it from me?"Mother was silent for quite a while before she replied in a soft voice, "Before the late King passed, he held my hand and told me that Prince Edmund was wildly ambitious, and he could only leave the kingdom in my care."He said that if I attracted too much attention, I would not be able to live for long, which was why I pretended to be silly, foolish, and ignorant. I did not expect the act to continue for decades."There was a long silence in the room, and I thought Father would not say another word. However, he spoke again, sounding pained. "Are you not tired after all these years?"Mother did not reply, yet I knew she was crying. Father continued in a hoarse voice, "From now on, I will act alongside you."Mother smiled and choked back a sob. "You do not need to do that. It is time to return this kingdom to its rightful owner."My tears could not stop falling as I listened to their conversation outside the ro

She had once been the highly regarded Noble Consort, and when she was dragged out of the Palace doors, she turned back to yell at Mother."You put on a pretty good act! I schemed half my life in the Palace, only to lose to a woman who pretended to be foolish!"Mother did not even look at her when she replied, "I am not the one you lost to. You lost to yourself."Vivienne was dragged off, never to be seen again.Isaac was sent into exile 3,000 miles away to the border. On the day he w

In order to live, Isaac revealed the mastermind behind everything.News came from jail that Isaac wanted to see Mother because he had something to say, and Mother went. I went with her.It was dark and humid in jail, and the moldy air was filled with the stench of blood.Isaac sat behind the bars, looking haggard and thin. He had once been a dashing man, yet now his cheeks had sunk in, and there were dark rings beneath his eyes. He no longer looked like the noble he once was. When he saw Mother, he fell to his knees with a loud plop on the cold ground and begged, "I am guilty, and I deserve death, but please have mercy on me. I am willing to reveal the mastermind behind everything!"Mother looked at him coldly. "Talk."Isaac swallowed hard and said in a trembling voice, "The person who instructed the Seymours to ask for the Princess' hand in marriage to produce an heir of the Royal bloodline was the late King's younger brother, Prince Edmund."I was in shock.Edmund was my uncl

That night, the Royal Guards surrounded the Seymour Residence.I stood outside and watched the door where I had been forced to slap myself for the past 6 months being kicked open. Crying, screaming, begging, and the sound of things being rummaged through came from inside. It was chaos. The servants who had bullied me haughtily because of the Seymours' silent consent were dragged out and forced to their knees. The Royal Guard Commander came forward to report their seizure of the Seymours and their assets loudly."Princess, we have found three boxes of ledgers proving corruption, 27 letters confirming that they sold official positions, and proof of Roxana docking the allowance of Your Highness when she was taking care of the household accounts, and taking the Princess' dowry for her own."I was surprised that there were accounting records of my cold meals and old clothes given to me in the past 6 months. Every cent that Roxana had docked from me had been returned to the Seymours' poc

The Seymours no longer showed any ounce of respect for Mother when they saw she had failed to put them in their place twice. Isaac's arrogance went to his head, and he became even more insolent than before."If the Queen Consort is still determined to make a mess of the situation, I would have no choice but to make a joint request with all the court officials to request that she be stripped of her title!"The request to strip Mother of her Queen Consort title caused a commotion.Roxana's hips swayed as she walked slowly toward Mother and smiled brightly. "Your Majesty, a pushover like you is only able to stand here, thinking that you have real power, because the King dotes on you."Look around here. Who in this hall has any respect for you? Who here has not called you an incompetent fool behind your back?"Camilla and Hugo yelled in agreement, causing more laughter in the hall.I could no longer take it. Tears streamed down my face as the anger and sorrow I had suppressed for 6 m

The Seymours grew even more insolent after escaping death. Isaac even went as far as to confidently advise Father about the Queen Consort. "Your Majesty, please forgive my bluntness, as I have something to say."Isaac turned the tables on Mother and claimed that she was trying to interfere with the imperial court. He accused her of being jealous in nature and lacking virtue as a Queen Consort for calling for an execution during a gala. He said she was a disgrace to the Royal Family."Your Majesty has always been just, and I would like to ask for justice on behalf of Roxana and me."Vivienne's supporters immediately took the cue to voice their dissatisfaction with Mother. They took turns declaring why Mother was not worthy of being the Queen Consort. It hurt tremendously to watch this from behind Mother, especially when I saw how thin and frail she was.I had wondered many times in the past 6 months if I would be able to escape the horrible abuse by the Seymours when they confined
