Chapter 3

We both left for my seat, leaving Emeka hanging there, looking all hopeless and shocked as how I just came and took the girl he was trying to impress and woo.

I would pay a million dollars to see the face Emeka made in a permanent portrait hang on my wall. it was just so priceless really but I am pretty sure he will not give up so easily. As I said earlier he is very competitive especially when it comes to girls, he always have this saying

’ Every girl has a price, and he is every girl's dream. '

What a guy! So full of himself.

“ So why did you leave your former school, didn't you like it there? " I asked her once we were seated.

“ I love my former school and I didn't want to leave, but I had to leave because my dad wants me here."

I could sense the sadness in her voice. I wonder why her father would want to make her daughter sad, then I remember that her father is Mr President, the same man who derives joy in the tears of many school children.

This is no man. He's a monster. Those were my thoughts but unknowingly to me my facial expression had changed while thinking about Mr President.

“ What's wrong, you seem angry. Did I say anything wrong?"

“ No is not what you said, I just remember something in the past." I lied.

“ Would you like to share?"

Huh??

This girl has just put in a tight spot with that question. Should I tell her it's because of her dad? I am angry that I hated her father with a lot of passion. She will surely hate me too.

Should I lie? But I was never a good liar,  she will know i'm not telling the truth, I decided to be honest with her.

“The truth is your dad.. " I was stalling as I was trying to figure out how to say it.

Suddenly a familiar figure walked into the class. Miss Esther, a youth corper who is teaching us English. I quickly stood up and greeted her first and Sandra with the rest of my classmates joined me.

Everyone loves Miss Esther because she is friendly and she never brings a cane to her class. There are other reasons why we like her, especially the boys because we boys find her hot and sexy. We do tell her from time to time in a funny way how hot she is and she seems not to mind.

“ How are you all doing? I hope you enjoyed your weekend and you didn't forget to do my assignment." She said with a lovely smile.

Oh shit!!! Assignment?? I totally forgot about Miss Esther assignment, and I am 100% sure she will call me out, cus unlike other subjects I am pretty good in English language and she just likes calling me, maybe because I always smile at her in her class.

However I pray she does not call me this time around cus I don't want to embarrass myself in front of Sandra.

“ So I want someone to come out and talk about the importance of democracy in Nigeria."

Total silence filled the classroom, it seems no one did Miss Esther assignment as well, maybe because we know she won't cane us or maybe we all enjoyed the weekend that we forgot about school work. Any case this is bad news for me. I saw Miss Esther gaze fixed on me, this can't be good.

” Chris, can you help your classmate out?"

All eyes were fixed on me including Sandra's. I wanted to say no, but somehow that felt more embarrassing than actually making a total mess of myself in front of the whole class so I stood up.

It can't be worse than crying like a girl I said to myself.

“ Alright let me try, ". I said all the while trying my best to keep a smile on my face,to put a form of false confidence.

For about 5 minutes I kept on saying things that came to my head. Each time I glanced at Miss Esther's face there was always a smile on it. I am actually pulling this off.

“ ...so these are the reasons why democracy is important in Nigeria. " I concluded..

The whole class applauded me and I felt I had won a million dollars.

“That's wonderful, simply brilliant. That's why I like you Chris. " Miss Esther said, smiling at me and I smiled back at her.

“Now I want someone to say what he/she learnt from Chris' presentation?"

She looked around and then called out to Emaka.

“MA, I..I don't know what to say."

The whole class burst into laughter including myself...

I went back to my seat and the look on Sandra's face was that of amazement.

“You didn't tell me you are smart."

“What can I say..... I don't brag." I smiled.

I was really happy that I didn't embarrass myself and that Sandra had forgotten what we were discussing early. Someone tapped my back. It was my best friend Ayo.

“Chris, you did the assignment?"

“No I didn't." I replied.

“How come you said all that you said?"

I laughed softly, “I just said what came to my mind, most of them were from movies I watched."

“Bad guy. So when will you start your revenge on our teacher's daughter?"

Oh shit!

I have totally forgotten that I told Ayo about that, and I don't intend to go on with the plan again but I don't want to look like a ‘woman rapper' so I lied.

“Very soon, I have gotten her trust, which is the first part of my plan. I will soon teach her a lesson she won't forget."

“Wow, you're the boss, so you don't like her?"

“How can I like her? God forbid." I lied.

I felt bad for saying such things but I don't want to look weak in Ayo's eyes.

I figure she wont find out

But had I known what would happen next I wouldn't have said that to Ayo.
