DORRY

It felt like I was struck by lightning when I got Jac’s call. The words "Nelson" and "critical condition" kept playing over and over in my head. My heart pounded like a clanging bell.

I finally arrived at the hospital. I was disoriented and struggling to catch my breath as I rushed to the operating room. My mind kept insisting that Nelson would be okay. He survived getting hit in the head—he’ll survive this too.

And now, there he was—Jac, pacing outside the OR, just as anxious and shaken as I was.

I hesitated to go near. I felt ashamed, afraid Jac might say that Nelson had to be in critical condition before I finally started to care. They didn’t know I had been coming here all this time, back when Nelson was first confined. I never went past the nurse's station. I only asked the nurses how he was doing.

“Dorry,” Jac said. His voice was heavy with worry. His eyes were red and brimming with tears.

And just like that, I couldn’t stop my tears from falling. “Where’s Nelson? How is h

My heart was pounding wildly in my chest as my footsteps quickened. Even though my knees felt like they were about to give out, I forced myself to keep going, trailing behind the doctor, who was now heading back to the operating room.I could already see Jac and Diego pacing anxiously in front of the OR. A nurse quickly approached the doctor."Doctor," the nurse said as she was about to enter the operating room."What happened?" he asked, stopping at the doorway to listen."The patient experienced internal bleeding. He’s extremely unstable right now."The doctor shook his head. “We need to prepare for the possibility that we might not be able to stabilize him.” He turned toward Jac and Diego, who were left speechless.I hadn’t even reached the door of the operating room yet, but I heard everything—the nurse’s voice, the doctor’s grim words. I heard it clearly: Nelson’s condition was critical.Just moments ago, I was pushing my weak legs forward just to keep up with the rushing doctor.

It was clear he didn’t want to be involved in his parents' scandal. He was completely washing his hands of it.“I honestly don’t know where they are right now, officer. As embarrassing as it is, I barely see my parents anymore. I’ve been busy with my own company, so we only meet during special occasions,” he said, looking like a helpless puppy begging for sympathy.Jac and I exchanged glances. That was exactly what we expected him to say. Hector had always been self-centered. Of course, he wouldn’t allow himself to go down with his parents.“Let’s go! We’re not getting anything useful from this guy. He’s just wasting our time,” I said, but not before shooting one last look at Hector, who returned my stare with a sharp glare of his own.Jac and Diego quickly followed.“Sir, don’t let your anger get the best of you,” Jac said. “The questioning was just a formality. But the authorities will still keep a close watch on him.”“They should,” I replied. “Even if it’s true that he barely sees

My heart was filled with anxiety as we made our way home. It felt like danger was lurking in every corner we passed—eyes watching us, shadows trailing behind, waiting for the right moment to strike. Call it paranoia, but that’s exactly what I felt. I kept glancing around, making sure the police escorts were still following us.“We’re almost there, sir,” Jac said, noticing how tense I was. “You’re really on edge. You’re not usually like this. The Nelson I know never backs down from a fight.”I glanced at him. “I’m not scared, Jac. I just don’t want to die without seeing Dorry.”And that was the truth. Right now, it felt like my life had a deadline. It’s hard when your mind is overwhelmed with problems and you don’t even know what the solution might be.“We all know, sir, that there are no guarantees in this fight. But you have to trust—this will end eventually.”I just sighed in response. It’s like what happened earlier didn’t faze him at all. Then again, Jac was used to battles. He wa

My heart pounded rapidly, matching the sound of the gunshots echoing outside the café—each beat a harsh reminder of the danger we were in.We were all crouched under the small tables, trying to stay hidden as the screams of other café customers filled the air, blending with the flickering lights. After several bullets shattered the café’s glass wall, we began to hear the blaring sirens of approaching police vehicles, followed by loud shouts and commands. But the gunfire outside didn’t stop. Whoever those heartless people were, they clearly had no intention of backing down. They shot at the café without hesitation.Everything happening now was proof that we weren’t safe yet, and more people could be caught in the crossfire if this continued. All because of me.The smell of gunpowder now filled the air, thick and suffocating, as bullets continued to fly between the police and the attackers.“Sir, stay down!” Jac yelled as he pulled me back when I tried to stand.I just wanted to see wha

Our movements were so swift that we could no longer control the pounding of our footsteps, which now echoed throughout the narrow stairwell we were descending. My chest was filled with fear—not just for myself, but for all of us. Still, I forced myself to shake it off. The only thing that mattered now was getting out of this hospital. Finally, we reached the bottom of the stairs. Now we could hear the chaos—people shouting, police sirens wailing. We were now beside the concrete wall at the side of the hospital. The sticky, humid night air wrapped around us, perfectly matching the heat of the tension we were desperate to escape. At last, we found a steel door marked with a bold “No Entry” sign. The bodyguards surveyed the area while Jac worked quickly to unlock the gate. This was our last hope to get out. There was no way we could go back. We were sure the people looking for us had already been alerted. They must’ve heard our hurried footsteps earlier.“This way, hurry!” Jac called out
