Chapter 4

Damon’s words pierced through Jeanette’s heart like a precise and vicious blade. She felt so much pain that almost her entire body was trembling. She quickly reached out to hold the table to support herself and finally steadied herself.

Sylvia smiled as well as she mocked Jeanette with her gaze, but she said, “Damon, I get what you mean, but you already married her. Do you plan to never have a child?”

She patted Damon on the shoulder and tried to persuade him. “Having a child is really nothing. You just need to turn off the lights and close your eyes. As long as she gets pregnant and gives birth to a son, I’ll disregard everything else.”

Would they get a divorce? No! She had gone through so much to marry him until she finally did. She suffered and was humiliated for the past two years. If she left, wouldn’t it mean that she gave in?

If they got a divorce, she would always be ridiculed and looked down upon by people who disrespected her in the past! She wouldn’t let him go!

If Damon wanted to make her suffer, she would not make things easy for him either!

Jeanette pushed away her chair and said coldly, “I’m done eating. You guys can take your time!” She then turned around and left after saying that.

Sylvia frowned, and her face sank as she got up from her seat. “Jeanette Leighton, stop right there!” In her heart, Jeanette was a snip who had married into the Godfrey family with impure intentions. Besides, her mother was a mistress. No matter how she looked at it, Jeanette was not worthy of her son, let alone being a part of the Godfrey family!

Back then, Sylvia had compromised and agreed to let this woman in. Jeanette should have known her place and lowered herself to serve the Godfrey family!

Who gave her the right to act up like that!?

However, despite hearing Sylvia, Jeanette walked out without turning her head. She knew that if she stayed there, Sylvia would only keep insulting her.

From the moment she had married into the Godfrey family, Sylvia had gotten used to bullying her. In the beginning, she endured it and respected her because she was Damon’s mother.

It was indeed true that she had used dishonest means to marry into the Godfrey family, so she did carry guilt in her heart. But that did not mean she should be treated like a slave and get trampled by them however they wanted!

“Jeanette Leighton, I told you to stop!” Sylvia suddenly became livid and even ran after Jeanette, but the latter still ignored her.

“Jeanette, are you trying to go against me!?” Sylvia scowled and raised her finger as she ordered the servant, “Go stop her and get her back right now!”

The servants in the Godfrey family residence looked at each other and were hesitant to take action. They were just servants, but Jeanette was the young lady of the Godfrey family. How could they actually do that?

“Are all of you going to disobey me too? Do you want to lose your job?!” Sylvia threatened them when no one followed her order.

The servants had no choice, so they mustered their courage to stop Jeanette.

“Get out of my way!” Jeanette was annoyed as she glared fiercely at the servants who were in her way.

“Go and get her back! If you don’t do as you’re told, you’re all going to get kicked out as well!” Sylvia gave them an ultimatum. The servants did not dare to hesitate anymore, so they grabbed Jeanette’s arm.

“What are you doing? Let me go!” Jeanette struggled as there were too many of them. Several servants dragged her.

Sylvia said angrily, “Well, well, well, Jeanette Leighton, I think you not only disrespect me, but you don’t take the Godfrey family seriously either! Since you’re so uncultured, you should be punished through domestic discipline!”

She pointed to the basement. “Drag her in there and lock her up for the entire day. She’s not allowed to leave until she is locked up for at least 24 hours!”

The two servants dragged her all the way into the basement obediently.
