The air in the boardroom was heavier than usual. The kind of heavy that sits on people’s shoulders and makes them adjust in their seats without realizing it.

I could hear nothing but the faint tick of the antique clock on the far wall, each second tapping louder than it should.

Twelve board members sat around the table, all of them waiting. No one spoke, not until the man at the end of the room, my father, finally did.

He sat there with his usual stillness, fingers steepled under his chin, back straight, face unreadable.

His voice came low and even, but with enough weight to draw everyone's attention. He said the board would like to know what I’ve found so far.

Then he paused, like he wanted to be sure we were all aware he was watching, before adding, don’t we all?

One or two nodded. A few more added murmurs of agreement. I didn’t speak. Not immediately.

I leaned back in the chair, eyes on the gleaming surface of the table, one hand slowly rolling a heavy me

The city lights stretched out before us as we drove through the winding streets, headlights weaving through the dark like fireflies. The silence in the car was soft, almost comforting, until his voice broke through it. "You look different tonight." I turned to glance at him, raising a brow. "Different how?" He shrugged with a slight smile, keeping his eyes on the road. "I don’t know… just different. Like you’re not trying to hide anymore like you’re finally letting yourself be seen." That made me laugha light, breathy sound that came from somewhere deep not because it was funny, but because it was true. "Just drive," I said, shaking my head. We drove in silence again, the radio low, humming some soft tune in the background. The air was thick with the scent of my perfume, the kind that made men turn their heads in passing. My heels tapped lightly against the floor of the car, my legs crossed. Two minutes in. Three. Five. I looked into the rearview mirror abse

I stood in front of the full-length mirror, staring at the reflection of a woman I barely recognized but admired. The deep crimson gown I wore clung to my body like a secret I wasn’t ready to tell. The fabric shimmered faintly beneath the soft light, hugging every curve, and tracing every dip of my waist and hips before stopping just above mid-thigh. The slit on the side bold and unapologetic exposed my leg with every slow, deliberate step. The neckline dipped low, showcasing just enough of my cleavage to make a man stare twice. And the back was bare and rebellious. My hair, that had just been freshly curled, tumbled down in soft waves that kissed my shoulders and framed my face in a way that felt romantic yet daring. I had spent time curling every strand until I got the look I wanted, not perfect, but purposeful. My makeup was sultry a bold wine-colored lipstick, smoky eyeshadow, and lashes that curled upward like they were reaching for something untouchable. This

The courtroom was packed. Pale grey walls and mahogany chairs made the space feel both formal and cold. At the far end sat the judge, a stern woman in her late fifties, her glasses perched halfway down her nose as she shuffled papers and studied the case file before her. The placard on the bench read: Hon. Justice Beatrice Andoh. And her robe was neatly pressed, and her expression unreadable. Alessa Cole stood on one side of the courtroom, poised but visibly tense. Her lawyer sat beside her, whispering last-minute suggestions. Across from her was Ethan Cole, tailored in a charcoal suit, his expression unreadable but his eyes flickering between Alessa and the judge. Behind them sat Milo, nestled beside a court social worker, glancing nervously at both parents. Judge Beatrice banged her gavel once. "Court is now in session. Case 4872. The petition for divorce filed by Mrs. Alessa Cole against Mr. Ethan Cole." Alessa rose slowly as her lawyer gave her an encouraging nod

A plate of untouched pasta sat on the table, slowly going cold and Alessa sat in front of it, her head bowed, shoulders trembling as tears slipped silently down her cheeks. She stared at her phone for a long second, her finger hovering over the screen, and then she pressed CALL. It rang twice before he picked it up. “What?” Ethan’s voice was curt as his voice echoed on the phone. “Ethan...” Her voice cracked. “Are you coming home tonight? I have something I want to tell you.” A beat of silence. He sighed. Loudly. “Why are you calling me? Don’t you know I’m at work?” “Just for a minute,” she pleaded. “Please.” “I said I’m at work, Alessa. I don’t have time for this ” and then click was the sound that came from the phone as the call ended. Alessa stared at the screen for a moment longer than she intended lost in deep thoughts, before slowly setting the phone down back on the table, As her gaze fell to the paper beside her still folded. She didn’t open it, she could

The cafeteria buzzed with the usual midday chaos loud chatter, clattering trays, and the ever-lingering aroma of fried chicken and soggy fries. At the far end, under the skylight where the sun carved soft golden shapes on the polished tables, the hockey team had their claimed territory. The table gleamed with their laughter, overflowing energy, and a few too many empty soda cans. Ethan lounged with one arm over the back of his chair, legs stretched out with an air of arrogance that demanded space. Beside him, Jace scrolled through something on his phone, lips twitching as he smirked at the screen. Opposite them were Carter, Finn, and Mike fellow teammates and a group of cheerleaders in their short skirts and school-issued jackets, twirling their hair, giggling a little too loudly at nothing in particular. "Yo, you guys ready for the match this Friday?" Finn asked, slamming his Gatorade bottle on the table. "Hell yeah," Ethan said. "We’re gonna wipe the ice with East H

"Pass the puck, Ethan!" Drew shouted, skating hard across the icy rink. Ethan Cole, gliding effortlessly, barely turned his head. His eyes stayed on the goal, his jaw clenched tight, and the black rubber puck snapped against the blade of his stick as he ignored the open players around him. "Dude, we were open!" Ryan added from the far side of the rink. "It was a clear shot," Ethan said flatly, flicking his wrist and sending the puck flying into the net with a sharp clack. "And I made it." "You always want to play solo," Drew muttered, skating up to Ethan. "This is a team sport, in case you forgot." Ethan spun around, skating back toward the group. His eyes narrowed. "And maybe if you trained harder, you'd be worth passing to." Drew's stick clattered to the ice. "What the hell did you just say?" Jace, watching from near the bench, called out, "Guys, cool it. We're just practicing." "No," Drew said, stepping toward Ethan. "He’s always like this. Every damn practice. Acting like
