Lucy’s POV

After leaving Tom, I immediately went to the police station. It was the only thing left to do outside of crashing out and having a complete meltdown.

“Hi! I liked to file a police report for stolen property.” I said as soon as I arrived. The woman at the front desk nodded and took down my information.

When I told her that it was a watch, she looked at me like I was crazy, until I put on the waterworks, and told her how much that watch meant to me and my family. She took me a little more seriously then.

They took my information and promised to keep me apprised.

I left that police station feeling defeated. What was I going to do now?

There was no way I’d tell mom that I’d lost the watch or even that it was stolen. Adding this stress on her wouldn’t make the situation any better for me nor her.

A day had come and gone without any news, and it was killing me to keep a reassured and optimistic view in front of mom whenever I was around her.

“Mom, I have to run out for a min

Lucy’s POV‘You’ve done enough. I’ll fix this myself.’There was a cold judgment in those words as he stalked out of the office, leaving me there to think about what I’d done. That’s what it felt like; like Alaric was reprimanding me, chastising me like a disobedient child. And it pissed me off. Maybe I should have listened to him when he told me not to go off and try to handle this on my own. I’d probably even regret it, but I just couldn’t take this lying down. So no, I didn’t listen to Alaric’s warning. I sat there anxiously as I waited for him at a back corner table at Whisk & Bloom. I thought that being in a place where I had trusted surroundings would at least make me more comfortable when talking to him. When I saw him approaching with Amanda begrudgingly in tow, my breath hitched a bit, the man made my heart flutter. In repulsion. Still, I tried to maintain a stoic calm that would ensure him that I wasn’t there to verbally attack him. At least not yet. The man would clam u

Alaric’s POV“What just happened?” I snapped at her as soon as we had the room. “How did he become a shareholder?!” “Alaric, I don’t-”“And 30% at that?” I hollered irately.“Alaric, if you stop yelling, and just let me explain-” she started to say.“Then go on!” I quipped. “By all means! Explain.” It was when I gave her room to speak that she stood there, clearly dumbfounded and without any explanation at all.“Alaric, I don’t know how he got it. I really don’t.” I was so infuriated by her ignorance of the situation that I could barely look at her. “Yet again!” I hissed. “Yet again, you’ve made an already impossible problem worse! For me and your family.” She took a step back from me, probably intimidated by every unconscious step I took toward her. “I…I didn’t mean to-”“Of course you didn’t!’ I growled. “Do you ever?!” She frowned. “Do you ever think about the decisions you make? How will they affect everyone around you?!” “That’s not fair,” retorted in defense.“Oh, the hell

  • No Longer His Ugly Wife   CHAPTER SIXTY FOUR

Lucy’s POVThat morning we arrived at the Whitmore building half an hour before the meeting. Alaric wanted to make sure that we were at the head of the table, a show of confidence and leadership when they arrived. “Chin up, Lucy.”I sat there nervously. “I’m fine.” “Clearly not,” he hissed under his breath. I cast an annoying glance his way. “What is that supposed to mean?” I asked when the doors ahead suddenly opened up. It was the shareholders. But only half had shown up. “Alright,” said the man sitting across from me, his bushwacked brows, cast down in impatience. “Let’s get this over with.” His eyes glared at me, and he wasn’t the only one. Everyone in attendance had their eyes cast down on me, a condescending expression written all over their face. And I honestly couldn’t blame them.In their minds, I was the probably the lame-brained heir returning after years away to make a quick buck by selling her ailing father’s company. They didn’t care about me, and why should they?

  • No Longer His Ugly Wife   CHAPTER SIXTY THREE

Lucy’s POVThe room I ended up in that night, was a haven away from the simmering tension that was growing in the house in the few hours that I’d arrived.I relished every second alone in the grand and beautiful room that was all my own. Even better than that was the fact that it came equipped with a bathroom, so I didn’t have to do very much to avoid the brother-sister duo.One thing that I couldn’t avoid, however, was having meals with them. And though in some way I definitely could, Alaric would have made a problem out of it for sure if I had. That morning, I did my due diligence in looking as neat and nice as I could, my hair brushed out in its soft waves before finally leaving the room.Descending the stairs into the kitchen the scent of eggs, bacon, corned beef hash, and a little something swift wafted through the morning air. The coffee was what had been calling my name the most, though.“Oh!” I gasped when I saw Alaric sitting there at the island, reading the morning newspape

Lucy’s POVThe move into the Kingsley mansion was almost immediate. There was no need to bring anything, he’d said to me before making the move official.“You’ll have everything you need,” he’d said to me when we talked about what to do with my things.Just as expected, Alaric’s place was extravagant, Tudor-style, and beautifully built. I was in awe of how beautiful it was.“What do you think?” he asked from behind.I’d have liked to have said something insulting, that it wasn’t my style but that would have been a lie. Tudor style architecture had always been my preferred design in a home. It was cozy and attractive. “It…it’s nice.” I replied, my eyes lingering on the house but my body guarded and stiffened by his nearness. “Beautiful,” I murmured.“Good,” he said and then walked past me and towards the house. He opened the door and waited for me to come along. Reluctantly, I did and we went into the house together. It was just as beautiful inside. Despite my forebodings, part of m

Lucy’s POV“I object to this travesty!” the girl exclaimed. “Don’t do it, Alaric!” she berated. The room gasped in unison at the outburst. I incredulously looked at Alaric, silently questioning what was going on, but he was too irritated to even look at me. It was as if he’d almost known that this was going to happen.“Alaric-” She yelled as Ray, Alaric’s assistant, snatched her up by the waist and dragged her away. “Don’t do this! You’re making a huge mistake!” she spat, her eyes glaring daggers at me as she struggled against Ray’s grasp. As I watched her be carted off, my eyes zeroed in on Alaric. Was this his lover? The notion itself made me despise him even more. To bring me into a marriage with an established side-piece? And a psycho one at that. I didn’t think he could stoop no lower. “Are you kidding me?” I hissed irately.“Calm down. Just smile and stay cool.” He hissed.“You’re really telling me that?” I asked sarcastically under my breath.“Don’t ruin this wedding, Lucy.
