Isla’s POV

I arrived at Sade’s house a little after seven, the familiar brick home glowing warmly in the evening light. Before I could knock, the door swung open, and Melody, Sade’s mom, stood there, her arms already outstretched. She pulled me into a tight hug, holding on longer than usual.

“Oh, Isla, I’ve missed you so much,” she said, her voice thick with emotion.

I felt my chest tighten. I’d missed them, too. Sade’s house had always been a safe space for me, a second home, and Melody always made me feel welcome. Tears welled up in my eyes as I hugged her back.

“I missed you too, Ms. Melody,” I said, my voice trembling.

Melody gently cupped my face and smiled. “You’re always welcome here, sweetheart. Always. You know that, right?”

I nodded, my tears slipping free, and she gave me one last squeeze before stepping aside. “Come on in. Make yourself at home, as always.”

I walked into the house, the comforting smell of baked goods lingering in the air. Before I could take another step,

Sade’s Point of ViewMonday mornings were always hectic, but Sade preferred it that way. It kept her focused. The latest clinical trial results for the Alzheimer’s treatment she’d been working on were showing real promise, and she was deep in her reports when Cheryl suddenly leaned in, whispering with urgency.“Oh my God. He’s here.”Sade didn’t even look up. “Who?”Cheryl gave her an exasperated look. “Seriously? Adamo Rossi.”At that, Sade’s gaze flickered up briefly.Adamo had just entered, moving through the office at his usual unhurried pace, nodding in acknowledgment as people greeted him. His presence had that effortless command, the kind that made people sit up straighter, pay attention. He had grown a short beard since she’d last seen him up close, and she had to admit it suited him.She noticed. But that was it. A passing thought.Unlike Cheryl, who was practically preening in her chair, subtly adjusting her blouse and checking her reflection in her phone screen.“Does my ma

Marco’s POVThe house was quiet as I unlocked the front door and stepped inside. The clock on the microwave read 4:30 a.m. I let out a slow breath, rubbing a hand down my face. My body still hummed from what had happened with Isla, but my stomach was tight with guilt.I didn't even know how it had escalated like that. One minute, we were talking, and the next...I swallowed hard and forced the thought away.As I moved through the living room, my eyes landed on Sade. She was curled up on the couch, her chest slowly rising and falling, our baby girl sprawled across her, both of them knocked out. A tiny snore escaped from Sade’s lips, and a softer one followed from the baby. For a second, everything inside me twisted. This was my family. My home. And I had just betrayed them.I exhaled slowly, tiptoeing past them toward the stairs. My legs felt heavy, my body sluggish, but my mind raced. Maybe if I could just crawl into bed and sleep, this weight sitting on my chest would lessen.I reach

Isla’s POVThe living room was dimly lit, the only glow coming from the lamp in the corner and the faint city lights seeping through the blinds. The air between us felt heavy charged with something I wasn’t sure either of us could control.Marco stood a few steps away, hands shoved into his pockets, his jaw tight like he was fighting a battle within himself. I wasn’t any better. My heart pounded so hard I swore he could hear it, and I couldn’t seem to look away from him.We shouldn’t be doing this.“We should stop,” I murmured, my voice barely above a whisper.Marco’s lips twitched, but it wasn’t amusement. It was frustration. “Then tell me to go, and you can call an Uber to take you to your in-laws' house to pick up your kids. ”I opened my mouth, but nothing came out.Instead of answering, I found myself taking a small step forward. Marco didn’t move away. His eyes darkened, his breathing deepening as I closed the space between us.The moment our bodies brushed, a slow exhale left h

Anonymous POV The lively hum of Jake’s Bar buzzed in the background as Sadé’s phone vibrated on the table. She glanced at the screen, Mom.“Hey, Ma,” she answered, but the urgency in Melody’s voice cut through her like ice.“Sadé, baby, I need you to come home,” Melody said, panic lacing her tone. “One of the twins is running a slight fever and keeps tugging at her ear. I think it’s an ear infection.”Sadé immediately straightened. “Okay, I’ll be right there.”Shane, who had been standing nearby, overheard and glanced over. “Everything okay?”“Not really,” Sadé admitted, grabbing her purse. “One of the twins isn’t feeling well. I need to get home.”Shane nodded, already reaching for his keys. “Come on, I’ll drive you. I have an early flight to New York anyway.”He turned to Isla, who was still deep in conversation with Tamara and Star. “Babe, I gotta head out,” he told Isla, leaning down to kiss her forehead. “You staying a little longer?”“Yeah, I’ll catch a ride with Marco,” Isla r

Anonymous POV It had been an incredible night so far. The trick-or-treating was a blast, with everyone enjoying the cozy, familiar feel of their close-knit neighborhood. The kids were running around with bags full of candy, their laughter filling the air as the adults chatted, reminisced, and shared stories. But now, the group had gathered at Rickabini’s, the neighborhood’s favorite Italian spot, to continue the celebration—this time, honoring the memory of Travis. The group was seated at a large round table in the back of the restaurant, plates of lasagna, fried steaks, and garlic bread laid out before them. The energy was light, despite the sadness in the air. It was a mix of bittersweet nostalgia and joy, with the people who loved Travis coming together to celebrate his life.At the table were Tamara and her husband, Jackson. Tamara was dressed as Madea, and her husband, Jackson, was wearing the signature attire of Professor Klump. They sat close, laughing and reminiscing with the

Sade’s POVHalloween in Chicago always had a certain magic to it, the crisp air, the leaves crunching underfoot, and the excitement buzzing in the city. But today, the excitement wasn’t just about trick or treating or the plans for later that night.Today, Adamo Rossi was walking into the lab.Sade was at her workstation, finalizing details for the clinical trial, when she heard the sudden shift in the office’s energy. The quiet hum of work had been replaced with hushed whispers, stolen glances, and subtle gasps. Then she heard it.A voice, deep, smooth, and laced with an intoxicating Italian accent.Oh boy.She glanced up just as Adamo Rossi stepped into the lab, and she had to admit—this man was something else.Tall. A jawline sculpted by the gods. Dark, perfectly styled hair. A tailored suit that fit like a second skin. And his presence? Commanding. Effortless. She didn’t even have to turn her head to know Cheryl was internally combusting beside her.“Girl…” Cheryl whispered, gripp
