"Carlos," Nora called. "Is that really you."

I was filled with joy. My heart danced in excitement as I heard Nora's voice. I was so glad that I fpinally

"Nora! Yes, it's me! Are you okay? Are the twins with you?"

"Carlos!" The relief in her voice was palpable. "I can hear you! I've been trying to reach you!"

"Where are you?" I asked desperately. "Are you hurt? Are the twins safe?"

"I don't know where I am," she answered, her mental voice trembling. "Some kind of Ancient realm. They have our children, Carlos. They're using them to threaten me."

Rage flared inside me. "Have they hurt you? Or the twins?"

"Not yet," she replied. "But they want to know who cursed my blood. They can't drink it it kills them. That's why they took the twins, to force me to tell them."

"Listen to me," I said urgently. "You hsve to find out where..."

Before I could finish, her voice came again, panic-stricken. " I have to—"

And then silence. Complete, devastating silence.
