Chapter : 4 [ First social appearance of Mrs. Hamilton ]

[ Scarlett ]

The old lady Windy was an over talkative woman. She literally told me the history and geography this shit hole that she calls a heaven for permanent dwellers. They consider themselves a big family but I find it annoying. I mean people need privacy and they don’t know how to respect it for someone who doesn’t like to be involved unnecessarily like me.

Windy also told me that I and Blaze should come to her house for breakfast where she has invited others also to introduce me to their society. Once she left, I yawned and glanced at the clock. It was around ten and Blaze was nowhere not that I cared about my father’s loyal dog aka Blaze Hamilton. I rise from the washed sofa and put my plates in the kitchen sink. If he thinks that I’d play a housewife for him then he’s living in a dream.

He brought it upon him, now he must bear the outcomes.

I return to his room means my temporary room to sleep but then I remember that I don’t have any cloth to wear except the one I’m wearing and it’s reeking now.

“I won’t forgive you for this Dad.” I curse my father for putting me in this situation.

I return to the bedroom and scan the interior. It isn’t very fancy but he maintains it. It smells of him. I open his closet to find something temporary to wear until he brings my clothes. I pick out a black shirt which has a unique scent on it. It’s expensive for sure but a poor driver like Blaze can’t afford luxuries. I frown but I shrug it off and change into his shirt which covers my body up to my thighs but its fine by me. I usually sleep just in my underwear.

I drift off as soon as I hit the pillow. The exhaustion takes over my senses.

Next day I am woke up by the loud beeping of an alarm clock. I jolt up and look at the time, it shows 6:15 AM in the early morning and it boils my blood. Who the hell wakes up this early? Definitely I don’t. Groaning  to myself, I make my way out of the room, sleep still rebelling in my eyes but the delicious aroma coming from the kitchen drifts me there.

Sleep disappears from my eyes as soon as my eyes lands on the man near thee stove. His upper body is naked while his trousers hung dangerously low. He has a lion’s head tattoo on his back. He is undoubtedly the most handsome man I’ve ever seen.

“Good Morning, Ma’am. Please come and have your breakfast.” His smooth raspy voice snaps me out of my dirty thoughts and I find him staring at me precisely on his shirt.

“So, you’re already on your duty to take care of Mathew Remirez’s daughter, impressive. Your loyalty deserves a medal.” I mock him while inspecting the simplest breakfast he prepared for me.

“Yes, Ma’am. I have no other reasons to share my house and food with you. I promised your father to protect you as long as this marriage binds us.’ He responses in the same cocky tone and pours some coffee for me.

I feel insulted and a liability again. People always treat me like I am a little spoiled girl who has no significance of her own.

“Don’t worry, I am going to meet my lawyer to see what he can do against this injustice. I don’t want to live here as well. This place is a replica of hell for me and the people are savage here. I mean who takes interest in other’s lives.” I scrunch my nose in disgust. I hear him sigh. He doesn’t seem to mind my words. I taste the simple eggs and grilled breads. It was oily but I don’t mind as I am hungry. I quickly finish my plate as I have to meet my lawyer to see what they can do and about to put the plate in the sink when he grabs my hand. His hold is gentle but it sends a spark down my body. I never feel this before with any men. His intense eyes are staring down at me.

“You left your plates last night. I didn’t say anything but from now on you have to wash your own plates, Ma’am. I can cook for you but I am not your servant.” He says in a curt voice.

I blink my eyes after I comprehend his words and it fills me with rage.

“But you can be my father’s servant, right?” I grit my teeth and jerks his hand,” Why are you playing this game, Blaze? What will you be getting out of this? Tell me your price, Blaze Hamilton, I will give it to you and get the hell out of my life. I can’t tolerate your constant insults just because you have made a narrative about me that I am daddy’s spoiled princess. Every coin has two sides, Blaze.” Tears brim in my eyes but I don’t let them fall.

His features soften a little but I don’t need his sympathy. After all he is also like others.

“I have placed your stuffs in your room. You can arrange them later but now we have to give a quick visit to Windy’s house to apologize that we can’t attend the breakfast. Please change quickly, I have to report at 8:00 AM.” He says and starts washing our plates and other pots. He is doing it effortlessly.

“I am not meeting the group of noisy ladies who has interest in my life than their own. Pass Windy my sincere apology.” I say carelessly and about to leave when he says something which hits my weakest nerves.

“For once, try to think about other’s sentiments, Ma’am. She is the woman who loves to take care of others. She always treated me like her son and tend to my needs even without asking. She brought dinner for you when she learnt from me that you can’t cook. Please respect others. I am sure you can understand it better as you also don’t have a mother.”

His words pinch me but he’s right. I don’t care for others’ feelings and always drown in self pity.

“Give me ten minutes. I will take a bath.’ I say in a low voice. He silently nods his head and resumes  cleaning up the kitchen.

This man has a bipolar personality. He acts all cold and robotic but shifts to a gentleman suddenly. He has a bitter past which turned him into a complex personality.

Fifteen minutes later I am ready to visit Windy and her husband and after that I will ask Blaze to drop me off at my lawyer’s office.

“You wear these clothes normally?” He questions me as his eyes scan me from tip to toe.

“What’s wrong with my dress?” I ask him back as I find no problem with my Prada dress.

He shakes his head,”Never mind, don’t come to me sulking when people will ask you how a middle class man’s wife affords such expensive dress which costs more than their average income. You don’t want to reveal your identity to them, do you?”

I bite down on my lips. He is right. I should change into something simple but the problem is I don’t have simple clothes. I mostly wear shorts and exposing tops as I hardly stay home.

“I don’t have clothes which are suitable for your society.” I tell him and he rolls his eyes. Why he always has to behave rudely with me like I have done a heinous crime by taking birth in a rich family. It’s not my fault.

‘Please avoid any questions regarding our marriage. They can’t know anything.” He says as we walk out of his house. I feel the neighbours gawking at us and I understand why he wants me to seal my lips about our marriage.

He circles his arm around my waist and leads us top the next door, Windy’s house. I can hear murmurs of people coming from her house.

“I can’t entertain crowd, Blaze.’ I whisper to him as we walk further closer towards the house.

“You must learn to adapt yourself in every circumstances, Scarlett that’s what your father wants for  you.” He answers and I feel jitters when he addresses me by my name for the first time.
