Dakor

The door to my chambers slammed open with enough force to rattle the iron hinges. I didn’t need to turn from where I stood by the fireplace to know it was Elliot. Only he possessed both the audacity and the death wish required to enter my private quarters in such a manner.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” His voice cut through the silence like a blade, sharp with barely contained fury.

I reached for my shirt from the chair beside me, pulling it over my head with deliberate slowness. The fabric settled against my scarred skin as I finally turned to face him. Elliot stood in the doorway, his usual composed demeanor replaced by something raw and dangerous, it made me smirk.

Oh how I just loved to rattle him. It was the only time I got to see a glimpse of the man I used to know.

“I assume you’re referring to my conversation with the omega,” I said, my voice devoid of emotion.

“The omega?” Elliot stepped fully into the room, closing the door behind him with more control than

RazielaI managed a shaky smile. “Just trying to survive the night.”She laughed softly. “Oh honey, you have no idea what you’re in for. These things go on until dawn sometimes. The nobles start civilized enough, but by midnight…” She shook her head with knowing amusement.“What do you mean?”“Well, let’s just say inhibitions tend to disappear along with sobriety. Last year, Lord Aldric stripped down to his undergarments and challenged the King to a wrestling match right there on the high table.”Despite my nerves, I found myself genuinely laughing for the first time all evening. “What did the King do?”“Stared at him until he put his clothes back on and slunk away like a scolded pup.” Diane grinned. “His Grace has that effect on people.”“No!” I gasped, covering my mouth to muffle my shocked laughter.“Oh yes. Wine makes people forget their place around here. The serving staff has bets on who will make a fool of themselves tonight. My money’s on Elder Blackwood - he’s already on his

RazielaAs I prepared to leave for my duties, I knelt beside Enid’s bed where she played with Thunder. “Mama has to work at the big party tonight,” I explained, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “Maria will be here soon to watch you, and I’ll be back before you know it.”The older woman who had taken a special liking to Enid had promised to watch her tonight, since she didn’t have to serve at the party. “Will there be music?” she asked, her eyes bright with curiosity.“Yes, sweetheart. Lots of music and dancing.”“Can I hear it from here?”My throat tightened. “Maybe a little. But you need to stay here with Maria, promise me?”She nodded solemnly, then wrapped her small arms around my neck. “Be careful, Mama.”The wisdom in her young voice broke my heart. A three-year-old should not have to worry about her mother’s safety, should not understand that the world was full of dangers that could steal away everyone she loved. The eastern courtyard had been transformed into something from a

RazielaThe kitchen knife trembled in my grip as I sliced through carrots, but my mind was three days away, trapped in the memory of huge chains and gunmetal eyes that had looked at me like I was salvation itself. What had possessed me that night? The question burned through my consciousness like acid, making my stomach churn with equal parts shame and something far more dangerous. I had touched the King without permission. I had defied his orders, invaded his private torment, and worst of all, I couldn’t explain the thing that had taken over me in that moment. The audacity of it should have gotten me killed. But that wasn’t even the most terrifying part. The most terrifying part was how my body hadn’t felt like my own.I could remember watching my body move, as if from a distance. My mind had remained intact but my body had moved with a will entirely separate from my own thoughts. It was as though something had slipped beneath my skin, puppeting my limbs. The sensation had been un

Raziela He stared at me as if I had spoken in a foreign language. “Raziela, you do not understand. In this state, I am not entirely myself. You must leave before—”“I am not leaving,” I interrupted, the words emerging with absolute certainty. Before he could protest further, I rose and moved into the bathroom where I filled a bowl with cold water and grabbed a towel along with it. “What are you doing?” he asked as I returned to his side. “Taking care of you,” I replied simply, beginning to gently wipe the perspiration from his forehead and face.I knelt beside him again and began to gently clean the perspiration from his forehead and face. The coolness seemed to provide immediate relief as his eyes fluttered closed and some of the terrible tension in his jaw eased.“This is madness,” he murmured, but he didn’t pull away from my touch. “You should be terrified of me right now.”“I am terrified,” I admitted, moving the cloth carefully around the silver chains that had left angry ma

RazielaThe corridor outside was empty and dimly lit.My feet carried me toward the castle though I could not have explained why. My rational mind screamed questions at me. What was I doing? Where was I going? What possible justification could I have for leaving my quarters in the middle of the night? But those questions felt distant, unimportant compared to the inexplicable pull that drew me forward. The gates that led to the castle were unguarded, unlike earlier in the day when several warriors had flanked around. It seemed things had eased inside the castle. I pressed forward, crossing the threshold that led into the castle and moving through the courtyard until I was inside the castle. It was dark inside, shadows played tricks with the familiar architecture, and the silence seemed to pulse with a life of its own. Yet, I continued to move through the hallway. It was only when I reached the King’s wing that the reality of my situation truly struck me. Two guards stood at attention

Raziela “Not intentionally,” Elliot replied thoughtfully. “But his beast operates on instinct rather than reason. It sees threats where there might be none, reacts to movement and sound in ways that could be… problematic. That’s why we make sure that the castle stays clear at all times. It’s not just for everyone else’s safety, it’s for his as well.”There was something in his tone, a depth of understanding that spoke of personal experience with this situation. How many times had he helped his King through this battle? How many times had he watched someone he clearly respected struggle against the beast within?“How long does this usually last?” I found myself asking.“It varies,” Elliot admitted. “Sometimes hours, sometimes longer. Sometimes it doesn’t happen at all. Much depends on the intensity of the shift, the circumstances that triggered it, and how long he holds the shift for before taking back control. But Dakor is strong. Stronger than he sometimes realizes. He’ll find his b
