Selena asked. Her eyes landed on a photo resting on the coffee table. It was a photo of Yale with another woman. They were holding a child together.Clearly, Yale already had a family of his own. Yet here he was, trying to pursue Selena. His intentions were obviously anything but innocent.Selena picked up the photo and let out a cold laugh. Her expression darkened."Yale, so you've been lying to me all along. You lied about wanting to get back together with me, and you only approached me to get what you wanted."Yale snatched the photo from her hand and opened his mouth to explain himself."That's enough," Selena cut him off before he could say another word.A strange sense of relief washed

  • On My Birthday, My Wife Took My Life   Chapter 11

I had planned to use the good news of my recovery to come clean with Selena about everything.I wanted to tell her that we once had a child, confess that I was finally a normal man, and talk about our future together.Sadly, none of that was possible now.All this time, I had been lost in my own little fantasy, convinced I was a devoted and loving husband. I never realized that, to everyone else, I was nothing more than a pathetic fool. Now, the notebook filled with all my heartfelt feelings seemed more like a collection of humiliating jokes. However, Selena clearly didn't see it that way. Tears streamed from her dark, sorrowful eyes as she sobbed uncontrollably. Her broken cries echoed through the empty house.Just then, a soft ringtone broke the silence.Selena wiped away her tears and answered the phone. The moment she heard the voice on the other end, she froze."Is this Ms. Selena Zane? I'm calling from the Traffic Bureau. We've completed the investigation into your recent

"What on earth have I done?" Selena wailed. The pressure was clearly too much for her to bear. She started biting her fingernails frantically. She bit so hard that her fingers began to bleed.I couldn't help but frown at the sight.…In the morgue, Selena stood before my corpse for what felt like an eternity. I had no idea what was going through her head. When she finally broke the silence, her voice was raw and raspy. "Why didn't you explain yourself? Why did you let me treat you like that? You fool…"She had been so consumed by rage back then. When had she ever given me a chance to explain?Besides, a dead man couldn't answer her questions.Just then, my phone buzzed. Someone had sent me a message.Selena picked up my phone and opened it. The message read, "Mr. Lawson, I've sent over the digital copy of your medical report. Even though you're fully cured now, there are some precautions…"The profile picture belonged to Willow, my therapist. She was the same woman in the p

I was so excited that I wasn't watching where I was going. Next thing I knew, I was tumbling down the stairs.Normally, I wouldn't have felt anything from a fall like that. But this time, a strange, almost miraculous sensation shot through me. It was like a blind man opening his eyes and seeing sunlight for the first time.Trembling with fear, I looked down at my raw knees and scraped arms. An intense, tingling sensation throbbed against my skin.I knew right away that this was what people called pain. A quick visit to the doctor confirmed it.From then on, my condition improved gradually. And just today, the doctor had officially declared me cured.I thought it was a birthday gift from heaven—a blessing to make up for the heartbreak of losing our baby.Today marked the beginning of my new life.Clutching my birthday cake tightly, I walked home with a light heart. "Selena, what's the point of doing all this now? He's already dead. We're both murderers now. We need to get rid of the body as soon as possible," Yale said, his voice low and coaxing.I was stunned. I couldn't believe how calm and composed Yale was while staring at my dead body. Had he done this before?Selena's eyes were bloodshot. She shook her head frantically, refusing to accept that I was gone. She pulled my lifeless body tightly into her arms."No, it's impossible. He can't be dead. He didn't suffer any fatal injuries!" she gasped. "How could he be dead? He must have gone into shock from losing too much blood."Her eyes suddenly widened with frantic hope. "Yes, that's it! Get him to the hospital!"Surprise flashed across Yale's face. "Selena, you…" he muttered. He clearly hadn't expected Selena to deny my death so fiercely."Take him to the hospital. I have to get him to the hospital!" she screamed. Finally, Selena thought to take me to the hospital. The thought that I w

In my final moments, I saw Selena's face twisted in pure panic. Her lips moved frantically, but I could no longer hear her. When I opened my eyes again, I was floating in midair. My body felt lighter than it ever had before. It was as if I'd let go of not only my physical body, but also all the hatred and love that came with it.I knew then that I was dead.I stared down at Selena with cold detachment, curious to see how she would react to my death. My lifeless body was pale, covered in wounds, with blood pouring from them.Despite how terrifying it looked, none of the injuries were actually fatal for a grown man my age. Even so, being tortured to death like this had undoubtedly been one of the most agonizing ways to die.My head hung at an unnatural angle. It was obvious I'd lost consciousness.Selena's expression changed instantly. She froze for a moment, then panicked and tapped my cheeks hurriedly."Hey, what's wrong with you? Martin, you're putting on an act again, aren't
