LEAH'S POV

I sit in the corner of the cold room with my knees pulled up to my chest and my back against the wall. My eyes are fixed on the door.

I've been staring at it for hours, waiting and hoping for something to happen. The minutes crawl by. The silence is heavy. I don't know how much longer I can do this.

The phone is still hidden in my waistband.. I don't know if Emily got my call. I don't know if anyone is coming. I don't know anything anymore.

Sophie is asleep on the mattress with her h

DAMIEN’S POV “So, Mr. Cross…” Leah turns to face me, the evening light catching her face making her look even more breathtaking. Her voice was soft and sweet but in her eyes I could see a glint of mischief. “I just say you've really outdone yourself this time” I couldn't help the grin that spread across my face. Everything was worth it, just to see this look of approval on her face. Then she frowned. “But im not entirely happy you know?” “Why? How?” I asked worried, had I missed something? Did I do something wrong? “You've been ignoring me.” She said in a small voice that sounded hurt. The grin faltered. “Ignoring you? How?” She stepped closer, tilting her head, that mischievous glint sharpening into something hungrier. “Well… let’s just say in some very unique ways.” Before I could ask what the hell she meant by that she dropped to her knees, I barely had time to process what was going on,she began working my belt open. Oh okay I wasn't expecting

LEAH'S POV "C'mon now, let's go." Damien leads me into the most gorgeous house I've ever seen. I couldn't believe my eyes the moment I stepped through the door. The living room was bathed in warm light from the large windows overlooking the ocean. “Cream color wall? Is the paint cream colored? Damien? You remembered? I thought you said dark brown would be better? “Well you seem to love cream so much, who am I to say no?” He said with a smile. “You only noticed the paint? Seems like you don't love green sofas as much as I thought.” I turned around and looked. In the living room, a plush sage-green sofa sat with ivory and blush-colored throw pillows scattered across it. “Oh my….” I gasp in surprise. “You really remembered” There was a fireplace made with white stone and across from it was a bookshelf with a rocking chair overlooking the ocean. There was nothing better than this. "Damien..." I breathed and placed my hand over my mouth. “Well I'm glad you like it” he said, “but

DAMIEN'S POV "Let's go, Damien," Leah said, pulling me along. I let her drag me through the crowded streets, her hand warm in mine. It had been two months since Cassian's death and the silence that followed had been heavy. Too quiet like the whole world was holding its breath, waiting for the next shoe to drop. But Leah had dragged me to an amusement park. Well, not necessarily dragged, but she said she wanted to see one, and I thought it could be a good time to get her all to myself. Watching her smile again had been one of the best things in my life. After everything she'd been through, after all the pain and the loss, seeing her laugh felt like a small victory. Maybe we were going to be okay. "Don't tell me you're scared of heights," she said, looking at me with that teasing glint in her eyes. I didn't respond. Just kept my eyes fixed ahead. She let out a squeal. "The big bad Damien is scared of heights! I never thought I'd see the day where you're actually scared of somethi

DAMIEN'S POV "So..." Marcus began. A car sped past us, cutting through the darkness and disappearing down the road. I watched the taillights fade until they were gone. I grabbed my gun instinctively wrapping my hand around the cold metal. "Who was that?" I asked, my eyes still fixed on the road. Marcus shook his head. "I don't know. Could be one of his men. Could be anyone." I sat there for a moment, staring into the darkness. For some reason, something felt wrong that the car drove by too fast. "We need to move," I said, opening the door. "But you said wait for—" "I changed my mind." Stepping out, I let the cold night air hit my face. "We go in now." Marcus scrambled out after me. "Damien, wait…" "No more waiting." I started walking toward the house. "I don't have the time to wait for Stephan or the police. This ends now." Marcus hurried behind me trying to catch up. "Damien, I should go first. I can—" "No." I cut him off without looking back. "You stay behind me. You d

ELRIC'S POV As we moved through the dark streets, the headlights cut through the night. I sat in the passenger seat with my rifle resting across my knees, my eyes fixed on the road ahead. Marek drove in silence occasionally looking at Elias and Elias, behind me, kept checking his gun for the hundredth time. The rest of the crew followed behind us in their own vehicles. Hopefully this ends well and all these men come back safe. Staring out the window, the buildings outside looked older, more run-down, and less inhabitable. The residential buildings were replaced with warehouses with broken windows and abandoned factories. The city lights were long gone and the place was eerily dark. We entered the industrial district and passed familiar roads as we continued driving in. We got to a street and something caught my eye “Slow down,” I said “What?” Marek asked, turning to me. “Just slow down” He eased off the gas. I leaned forward peering out the window, I wasn't mistaken. That w

DAMIEN'S POV The drive from his house to wherever Cassian was felt endless. I sat in the passenger seat, occasionally turning to look at Marcus as he drove. Each time I did, he tensed up a little more. I couldn't believe he could betray me like this. I had followed him after he left the office. I should have known something was wrong when Marcus, who needed at most twenty-four hours to find anyone, couldn't find him. "Why..." I muttered under my breath. He didn't respond. "Whyyyyy?" I yelled, "Marcus, why? Why? Why?" He said nothing. Just kept his eyes on the road, refusing to meet mine. I was with the enemy all along. I should put a bullet through him. Make sure he has a slow and miserable death but for some reason, I couldn't bring myself to lay my hands on him. Why? After everything he did? After all the lies? Deep down I knew why. Because he was still Marcus, the same Marcus who had been by my side, saving my life more times than I could count. He had my back even in my
