Chapter 4

Three years later, at North City Airport, a news flash was broadcasted in the hall.

“North City’s latest financial news: Fudd Enterprise bought out the land along Navy Road and is planning to build a large-scale entertainment center in the area. It was reported that Navy Road was surrounded by wealthy neighborhoods. Demolition will be a difficult issue as there are a lot of high-class residential and villas in the area. Today, we are honored to interview the CEO of Fudd’s Group, Heaton Fudd. Let’s take a look at how he will solve this problem.”

Verian Mont was attracted by the massive screen in the hall as soon as she disembarked the plane.

A man dressed in a gray suit and a black tie appeared on the screen. He had porcelain skin but did not look girly at all. He was very handsome and had well defined facial features. His cold aura was unforgettable.

The man’s clasped hands rested on his lap and he was calm when facing the camera. A faint smile spread across his thin lips. “Nobody will feel that they have too much money, the same goes to the people living in this wealthy neighborhood. If money can’t solve their issues, it means that there is just not enough money.”

The host’s eyes gleamed with admiration and astonishment. The host politely smiled and asked, “If you don’t mind me asking, President Fudd, how long will it take for this complicated and large demolition process to be completed?”

The man looked straight at the camera with sharp, wise eyes and said, “Fudd will deal with all the residents and complete the demolition process in one week.”

The scene was then cut off. It transitioned from showing a handsome man’s face to Navy Road. It was a disaster. Many residents already moved out, and most of the houses were demolished by excavators. The area was in ruins.

Verian’s dewy eyes trembled fiercely behind her shades. Her gaze was fixated on the Mont family villa on the screen. It meant that the Mont family villa, which was also located on Navy Road, would be demolished too!

The shaky camera showed a reporter stopping a fashionable, rich, middle-aged woman. The reporter asked, “Mrs. Sheen, you’re the owner of this villa. I heard that you’ve already come to terms with the Fudds regarding the price and conditions, am I right?”

The woman was none other than Verian’s stepmother, Queena Sheen!

Queena Sheen smiled at the camera and said, “Fudd Group offered us a generous amount. Therefore, we have no intention in opposing their decision. We will pack our stuff, hand in the key, and prepare to move today.”

Verian’s knuckles turned white as she tightly embraced the urn that was tied with a piece of black silk.

Her eyes were tinged with indifference. Three years ago, she could not return home; three years later, no one could stop her from bringing her father back to the Mont Family!

That was not merely a villa in a wealthy neighborhood. It was her father’s last anchor.

Verian clenched her fist. Pulling her suitcase, she quickly left the airport.

In June, the clear blue sky in North City appeared very different from the cold freezing night when she first left the city.

She looked up at the scorching sun then caressed the urn.

‘Father, I am bringing you back home after three years.’

A car honked at her and the owner of a white Polo stretched her head out of the car window, waving at Verian excitedly. “Rainie, here!”

The corner of Verian’s mouth lifted into a smile. Dragging her suitcase, she quickly walked toward the car. Guin Yellen mocked Verian as soon as she got into the car and took off her shades.

“What a loyal friend you are! Are we still best friends?! You left for Paris without a word three years ago. I’ve been so lonely all these years!”

Verian lowered her eyes as Guin mentioned the tragedy from three years ago. A hint of loneliness flashed across her eyes, but she smiled and said, “I’m back now, aren’t I? I had a tough time then.”

Guin looked at her sympathetically. “You surely had a rough time during those three years. You were the daughter of the Mont Family, but your stepmother and stepsister drove you into such a state. You’ve lost a lot of weight.”

With a faint smile on her face, she shook her head lightly. “Fortunately, I realized afterward that my father left a million bucks in my account. I guess he was afraid that something bad would happen. Although one million is not a lot, it was enough for me to study arts in Paris. I took up part-time jobs and earned quite a lot of money by submitting my sketches to various companies. It was enough to get by.”

As Guin drove, she asked, “By the way, I bet you still don’t have a place to stay as you have just returned. I rented a two-room unit but I live alone. If you come and stay with me, we can split the rent.”

Guin knew that Verian would feel bad for accepting her offer if she did not collect rent from her. By asking Verian to share the rent, she would not reject her.

“Alright, but since when did Miss Yellen need to collect rent? Be honest with me, did you have a conflict with your family?”

Guin looked at the traffic in front of her. She pouted and said, “Don’t even mention it. My mum forced me to attend blind dates. I can’t stand it anymore, so I moved out of the house. Dash it all! She was so angry that she cut off all of my allowance. Isn’t that awful?! By the way, you haven’t found a job yet, right?”

“Yes.” Verian frowned. “I’m not sure if I would be able to adapt to the art industry in our country.”

Guin wiggled her eyebrows excitedly. “Girl, do you want me to offer you a lucrative job?”

“If it goes in line with my profession, sure thing.”

“Of course! But you would have to attend a dinner party with me tonight.”

Guin handed her the invitation card. Verian glanced at the card, and the name Heaton Fudd in the guest list caught her attention.

‘President Fudd, who purchased the land along the Navy Road, will also be attending the dinner tonight?’

Verian’s raised her brows as she pursed her lips. “Guinnie, do you know Heaton Fudd?”

Stunned, Guin stared at Verian with peculiar eyes. “Rainie, don’t tell me that you like Heaton Fudd? Let me tell you, Heaton Fudd is not a man to be trifled with. You will freeze to death even by standing 10 meters away from him! Almost all the women in North City who tried to court him were frozen to death! If you’re looking for a partner, I can introduce my eldest brother to you! My brother is a very caring guy!”

A chill ran down Guin’s spine as she thought of her stone-cold uncle.

However… She was curious to see what kind of person her uncle would be in a relationship if there was ever a romantic spark between Verian and her uncle.

Verian’s frown deepened. When she saw him on the television at the airport, her first instinct was that the man was not a person to mess with.

It turned out that way indeed.

However, she already lost everything. She had to take down Heaton Fudd and secure her villa no matter the price!
