Chapter 2

A few staff members saw her crying her eyes out the moment she ran out of the Boss’s office, but she couldn’t care less about their glances or gossip that was starting to spread.

Hailey got to her office, picked up her handbag, and exited the office building.

The tears came rushing in full force the moment Hailey got into the car. She buried her face in her palm and cried her eyes out until there were no tears left.

Not knowing what else to do, She started the car engine and made her way back home in the hope that this was all a dream. Cole was angry and by the time he returned from the office, he would be much calmer, they would settle their differences and she would tell him about the baby.

Upon pulling up at the gate of the mansion, Hailey’s heart shattered in pieces when she sighted familiar luggage boxes placed right outside the gate.

She got out of the car and then approached the gate.

“What’s going on here?” She said to Enoch who came outside upon sighting her car. He was the head security of the house.

“They were brought out here on the Boss’s instructions and you are not allowed to come in.”

“Cole said so?”

“Absolutely“

“You heard him. Take your things and leave.”

Hailey froze where she stood upon hearing that familiar voice. She finally turned to the direction the voice came from and it turned out to be Vanesaa, walking out of the mansion in nothing but a red short dress and matching footwear.

Hailey blinked her eyes in a bid to clear her vision. She shut her eyes and opened them again but she still saw the same person.

“What are you doing in my house?” Hailey attacked, trying to stay strong.

“I think I should be the one asking that question because this house is mine now.” She came to a halt before Hailey, folding her arms confidently.

“You are wrong if you think you can bully me out of my husband’s home.”

“You mean your soon-to-be ex-husband?” Vanessa mocked.

Her lips curved into a big smile. “You know how much I love seeing you miserable.” She brought her fingers to Hailey’s face and started to twirl her hair but Hailey shrugged her hand off.

“I can’t bear to see you be the wife of the richest man in the country. That would be so unfair to me. You are the step-daughter of the family and just like your dead mother who was a slut, you don’t deserve a good life.”

“Keep my mother’s name off your mouth!” Hailey challenged, trying so hard not to show her pain.

“Of course, It’s no fun talking about poor and ridiculous people. I am here to put you in your place so take your leave right now.”

Hailey had no idea what came over her or where she got the courage from. Her hand had landed really hard across Vanessa’s cheek before she realized what she had done.

The smirk on Vanessa Summers’s face slowly faded away. She brought her hand to her cheek, trying to ease herself from the pain.

“How dare you?” She glared at Hailey.

“All my life you’ve always cheated me and made me look like a loser and a bad person but I’m not gonna let this slide. If not for the love I have for Cole, then I am going to do this for the sake of our baby. You and your evil mother deprived me of my father’s love, and I’m not going to let you all deprive my baby of that.”

“What? What baby?” Vanessa said with a confused look.

“I’m pregnant with Cole’s child and I won’t let you all deprive this child of its father’s love.”

Pre…pregnant? How is that even possible? She released her hand from her cheek, hoping the situation wasn’t ruined already. She wanted Cole to herself and a child from Hailey was the worst thing that could ever happen right now. Having an heir for the richest man in the country was everything and more!

Vanessa glared at Hailey, looked down at Hailey’s belly, then back at her face.

“I don’t believe you. She said in disgust.

“And what makes you think that I give a damn about you or what you think?” Hailey challenged her step-sister.

A resounding slap fell on Hailey’s cheek, a slap with enough force that made her instantly spin around and fall to the ground.

“Just a pathetic bastard.” Vanessa sneered, “You got knocked up by one of your poor exes and here you are, pushing the baby to Cole.”

“Stop talking nasty about my child, Why don’t you wait till the baby is born and then we will run a DNA test? Hailey gritted her teeth to prevent tears from falling, putting a hand around her belly, protecting her growing baby from her evil step-sister’s glance, “Admit it, you’re afraid.”

You bitch!!! Vanessa closed the gap with Hailey. With all her might and out of anger and jealousy in her heart, She started kicking Hailey with her boots in different parts of her body. In a bid to avoid that and protect herself, Hailey hit her head on a medium-sized rock.

“You do nothing but ruin my life with your presence. I want you to disappear forever.” Vanessa voiced out as she continued kicking Hailey.

Hailey groaned in pain. Her hand slowly went to her stomach to protect her baby. Tears started rolling down her cheeks because of the pain she felt; and this time around, she wasn’t weeping for herself but for her unborn child who had to suffer this humiliation too.

Vanessa crouched down to her sobbing step-sister, ignoring her bleeding forehead, “I hope you now know that I don’t joke with what’s mine and Cole is MINE so stay the f**k away.”

“If you are actually carrying a child, then I expect it to be a bastard child just like you and should in case you slept with Cole and the child is his, get rid of it and do not ever come back into our lives.”

“Cole is mine, he’s going to get married to me and I’m going to give him as many babies as he wants,” Vanessa said with so much confidence.

Glaring at her step-sister who was in so much pain, Vanessa rose to her feet and started to make her way in.

“Ma, She’s bleeding!” Enoch, the head security, said to Vanessa while pointing at Hailey who was groaning in pain. Blood was gushing from her head. He could also see blood drip down her leg.

Vanessa stopped in her tracks to take a look at Hailey. She smiled when she saw blood stains on her leg, knowing that was exactly what she wanted to achieve.

“Anyone who dares to help her will be fired,” Vanessa commanded before storming into the mansion.
