MasukJhelani's POV: When I went in, I saw the black apron hanging on the side of the kitchen wall just as she said, and I immediately put it on."Hasten up with that and get to work." I jumped, turning to see who it was. "What? Why are you staring like you've seen a ghost? The customers are waiting, and you being such a snail isn't helping matters. I don't want to lose a single unsatisfied customer because of you, girl. So be quick," the shop owner grunted, shaking her head as she picked some stuff from the store before heading out. Why is she so pissed off and rude to me? It's not like I'm playing around. I rolled my eyes, mumbling to myself as I tied the rope behind my back then got to work. The first thing I noticed was that there were small papers containing what each customer wanted to have and their table numbers. The papers were pinned to a medium-sized blackboard before the counter. It's easy to see and discard into the trash can that's beside the counter once the order has b
Jhelani's POV: My ears were blazing and all I could see in my vision was red as I stormed off, heading back home. Those brothers were giving tough time, distracting me from my purpose of coming here but I wouldn't let them the space to step in my life any further. But it seems I was lying to myself. My mind still wandered to the feel of having his warmth radiating into my body when he leaned closer to me, his slender fingers effortlessly wrapping around both of my wrists.Hell, I could smell his cologne. It smelt so musculin and expensive. Did I miss the word seductive too? Yet, I didn't dare to show it. I could only inhale quietly, basking in it. I snapped my eyes open, realization dawning on me. "What are you thinking, Jhelani? You are not so stupid to fall for little stuffs like this. You hate him and his brothers, remember?" I muttered to myself. I don't like him. I only liked having him close back then because of the cold. He was the only one keeping me warmed up from the
Jhelani’s POVWarmth. That was the first thing I noticed. It wrapped around me like a cocoon, so different from the endless cold that had sunk into my bones. My lashes fluttered, and for the first time in forever, I didn’t feel like I was drowning. Drowning in an iceberg. Then I realized why.An arm was draped across me, heavy and steady. A chest rose and fell against my back, its rhythm oddly soothing. And beneath my ear, there was the thud of a heartbeat...not mine.My stomach dropped. My eyelids flew wide open. "What the hell?" I stiffened, trying to move, but the arm tightened, pulling me closer. My pulse raced, panic clawing its way up my throat. "Who the fuck... Kian?!" I nearly screamed, my eyes wide opening further when I saw who had me in his arms. Then the door suddenly swung open."Kian, get her out of here. Now." Damon commanded in very strict voice. Kian sat up on the bed immediately, "huh? What's wrong, man?""They know. They're coming, so get her the fuck out befo
Kian's POV: I drew the covers over her fragile frame. She's been shivering since forever. I squeezed out the water from the towel into the bowl, making sure it was still hot before cleaning it over her body. I've changed the water two times now, cleaning her up. But the weather was freezing, cooling off the water before I could be done."Can you give me one reason why you brought her here, Kian?" I heard Damon say for the third time and I didn't say a word. He was looking at the window, but I didn't miss the anger in his voice. I knew he was pissed off as fuck but struggling to control. "Out of everywhere you could have possibly taken her to, why must it be our residence?" He asked again. My nails dug into the towel, keeping my annoyance under. "Where then? If I took her home then who would've looked after her? No one would be there to watch over her and know how she's coping or feeling. If she's feeling better or not, how would we know?" I said, gritting my teeth. "Her mom is
Jhelani's POV:I clicked the roof of my mouth with my tongue when I got to him, then brushed past, hopping on my bike that was parked on the pavement there. He looked instantly displeased, his bright smile earlier turning gloomy. "What're you on to?" "Take the lead and I will be right behind you," I said without sparing him a glance.I wore my helmet before starting my engine and revving as I held onto the handlebars. The wind was getting stronger, as if an impending downfall was to come. Better to be safe than sorry. Suddenly, my engine was turned off. I looked to the side and saw Kian standing there, his tan muscular body build steel as ever, dark hair roughly done over his brown eyes. I gulped, biting my inner cheeks. This looks. I still recall this gaze and suffocating feeling. It felt like it was just yesterday. Without warning he pulled me off my bike by the waist and dumped my body over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. "Are you crazy? What is wrong with you, man? P
Jhelani's POV: This can't be happening. I came all the way down here for one reason, just one fucking reason, and yet I have a whole different trouble following me up right behind. I am being watched. My every move, my choice of action, the way I love my coffee, my favorite flower, every damn thing. The intruder knows of it. Who broke into my home? Who kept this here? Who was it that was talking to me in my apartment without me knowing? Those were the exact questions that rang in my head with no answers to them. I threw the coffee into the sink in my kitchen, the whole thing going down the drain before I tossed the cup into the bin next to the sink. Then I turned to the envelope, my heart racing faster as I took a step closer to it. With trembling fingers, I swallowed hard while opening the envelope, then I brought out what was in it. It was a photo of me jogging down the street this same morning in my outfit that I still had on, showing that I was right. I was already being fo
